Count from the Rashi sign to the Navamsa sign — that number = the inner house effect:

• A planet's inner effect = the house counted from its rashi sign to its navamsa sign
• This effect cannot be avoided during the planet's dasha
• Good or bad depends on lordship — but the house theme will certainly manifest

Vargottama = Lagna-Like

• Vargottama = inner house effect of 1 (always Lagna)
• Like Atmakaraka = directly impacts your identity, health, inner makeup

Gandanta

Definition

Gandanta = the boundary (knot/junction) between a water sign and a fire sign.

The three Gandanta points in the zodiac:

"Water and fire cannot be together. One will quench the other. Either water quenches the fire or the fire evaporates all the water. They cannot be together."

Naming of Gandantas

• Named after the nakshatras at the border:
  • Scorpio-Sagittarius: Jyestha (last nakshatra of Scorpio) + Moola (first nakshatra of Sagittarius)
  • Jyestha's deity = Indra (king of the gods, Devendra)
  • Moola's deity = Rakshatra (Rakshasas/demons)

"When Rakshatra and Indra come together, they go to battle. One of them will have to be destroyed. That is why it is called Moola Gandanta."
