Puzzle Answer: Jan 14 1980 Accident; Shoola Dasha (9-yr/sign); Sthira Karakas; D-12 Relative Events
Puzzle answer: vehicular accident Jan 14, 1980 — another vehicle hit him; he was not driving. Vimshottari Venus-Jupiter period: Jupiter (AK, 6L, Gandanta) = near-death but AK protection = survives; Venus (1L + 8L + 3rd from AL) = near-death experience that is life-changing. "Natal chart + Vimshottari gave a MUCH clearer signal than the annual TP chart." Shoola Dasha (Shiva's trident): computation = stronger of Lagna/7H, move zodiacally, 9 years per sign; danger if dasha sign is trine from AL, 3rd from AL, or receives 6L/8L/Badhakesha aspects. Sthira Karakas (Therakarakas — Shiva's indicators): Father = stronger of Sun/Venus; Mother = stronger of Mars/Moon. When Shoola Dasha reaches the sign where Sthira Karaka of a relative is placed = serious event to that relative. D-12 for relative events: read Mercury (dasha lord) and Moon (antardasha lord) from 9H for father's perspective; Bhoga point = count between them. Distinction: reading from 9H = YOUR relationship with father; reading from L9 (Graha Arudha) = what happens to father himself; reading from A9 = tangible manifestation of father-native relationship.
"Atmakaraka is the king of the chart. When AK is protected — in a kendra or trine, well-aspected — the person survives even the most dangerous dasha periods."
— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao
Example Chart
The Puzzle Answer
Event: Vehicular accident on January 14, 1980 — ANOTHER vehicle came and hit him. He was NOT driving; some other vehicle hit him.
Why D-16 didn't clearly show it: Because it was not HIS own vehicle's accident. D-16 shows one's own vehicle experiences.
Reconciling from natal Vimshottari: Venus-Jupiter period was running.
- Jupiter: AK, 3L+6L, exalted but in deep Gandanta (9 arcminutes from border) + afflicted by Rahu = near-death experience from 6th lord in Gandanta, but AK protection = does not die
- Venus: Lagna lord (protection), but also 8L and in 3rd from AL (near-death from 3H from AL during its period); both lagna lord and 8L results will manifest
Outcome: Serious accident (knee injury most likely), but survived — consistent with AK dasha protection principle.
Important lesson:
— PVNR"The natal chart and Vimshottari dasha gave a MUCH clearer signal than the annual TP chart. Always go back to the natal chart. If the annual chart doesn't clearly show the event, the natal chart's dasha system often will."
Shoola Dasha (Shula Dasha) — Shiva's Trident
What it shows: Serious health problems, major accidents, even death. Literally "Shiva's soola (trident) coming and striking."
Computation:
- Take stronger of Lagna and 7H (or the appropriate house for relatives)
- Start from there; go zodiacally
- Each sign = 9 years exactly
- Very simple to compute mentally — no complex calculations
Trident concept: Shoola dasha is like a trident — when the main spoke points to a sign, the other two spokes (5H and 9H from it) also experience effects. So the trines from the dasha sign are also affected.
Danger signals — if ANY of these, warn the native and advise remedies:
- Dasha sign is a trine from AL (1, 5, 9 from AL) — this is where Maya is most vulnerable
- Dasha sign is 3rd from AL (bhavat bhavam of 8th = how death manifests)
- Planets in or aspecting that sign include: 6L, 8L, Badhakesha, Marakas, or Gandanta planets
- The sign itself is "evil" — Saturnine (Capricorn, Aquarius) or Martial (Aries, Scorpio) signs tend to give harder results
In this chart: Aquarius = trine from AL + aspected by Badhakesha Sun + aspected by Jupiter (6L in deep Gandanta) = Aquarius dasha would be dangerous for health.
Shoola Dasha for Relatives
For each relative, start from the house representing that relative:
- Father: Start from 9H (Pitru Shoola Dasha / Pitru Swara Dasha); take stronger of 9H and 7H from 9H
- Mother: Start from 4H; take stronger of 4H and 7H from 4H
- Siblings: Start from 3H; same calculation
To see if a relative is in danger:
- Look at A9 (for father) — when trines from A9 or 3rd from A9 are running in Shoola Dasha, danger to father
- See who the Sthira Karaka (Therakaraka) is for that relative
Sthira Karakas (Therakarakas) — Shiva's Indicators
Three types of karakas in Jaimini:
- Naisargika Karakas = Brahma's domain (fixed natural indicators)
- Chara Karakas (Sarakarakas) = Vishnu's domain (changing karakas by degree)
- Sthira Karakas (Therakarakas) = Shiva's domain (fixed "terminator" karakas for relatives)
Therakarakas show: When Shiva's soola comes to the sign where the Therakaraka is, something serious (injury or death) happens to that relative.
| Relative | Therakaraka (Sthira) | How to determine |
|---|---|---|
| Father | Stronger of Sun and Venus | Evaluate Sun vs Venus for overall chart strength |
| Mother | Stronger of Mars and Moon | Evaluate Mars vs Moon |
In this chart (for father's event):
- Sun vs Venus: Sun wins (daytime birth, 4 planets with him) — Sun is Pitru Therakaraka
- The Shoola Dasha coming to Taurus (where Sun and Ketu are) = Shiva's soola striking Pitru Karaka itself = serious event to father confirmed
Reading Events Relating to Relatives from Dvadasamsa (D-12)
D-12 can be used to see how you feel about what's happening to your parents, and what happens to them.
Method for father's event:
- Take 9H perspective for father
- See Mercury (dasha lord) from that perspective: Mercury = 3L+6L from 9H = functional malefic from 9H; in Bhagasthana = accident possible
- See Moon (antardasha lord): Moon = 7L from 9H = Maraka from father's perspective; dispositor of 8L Sun
- Bhoga (result point): count from Mercury to Moon = 4 signs = Leo = 8th sign from 9H = sudden unexpected events for father
Key distinction:
- Reading from 9H = how you (the native) experience your RELATIONSHIP with father; guidance/fathering is blocked
- Reading from L9 (Graha Arudha of 9L) = what happens to father AS AN INDIVIDUAL PERSON (accident, illness, etc.)
- Reading from A9 = the tangible manifestation of the father-native relationship
For any serious event to a relative, you need to:
- Check Shoola Dasha (from 9H/4H etc.)
- Check the Sthira Karaka position
- Cross-reference with D-12 dasha
Career Reading — Supplementary Points
Brief exercise: determining career from D-10 for the father's chart.
- Saturn (10L) in 6H from 10H = Saturnine career with a service/struggle element; routine jobs possible
- Mercury + Jupiter in Sagittarius: Mercury = karaka for banking, finance; Jupiter = financial institutions (banks, insurance)
- Career path: started with routine/odd jobs (Saturn period), switched to banking around age 25 (Mercury/Mercurian period)
Key rule (repeated):
- 10L's house FROM 10H = the domain/sector of career
- 10L in 6H from 10H = career involving struggle, service, routine
