George W. Bush Chart: Comparative Analysis

Recorded in October 2004, days before the US election. No natal reading of Bush is given. The whole discussion is on the Tithi Pravesha (annual) charts of the two candidates, their Dashamsha, and the dashas running inside the year.

Kerry — Tithi Pravesha of 2003 (the year covering election day)

• Kerry was born in December, so the 2004 TP begins after the election. The year running on November 2, 2004 is the 2003 TP.
• Ruler of the year (hora lord), as given in class: Mars.
• TP Dashamsha (Taurus lagna): Mars is in the 7th in his own sign with Saturn. Mars is 7th lord, Saturn 9th and 10th lord → Raja Yoga. A5 is there too. It looks good.
• He overtook the front-runner Howard Dean and brought the race to 50–50. That by itself is the yoga of the year. It does not mean he wins on November 2.
• On election day he runs Saturn dasha, Rahu antardasha. Rahu is in the 8th from lagna and the 2nd from Saturn — the 4th lord from Saturn in the 2nd: robbed of comfort, anxiety. The result may not be clear that day.
• Nothing guarantees a result on election day; 2000 showed that. A bad antardasha on the day may only mean tension, with the result later.

Kerry — Tithi Pravesha of 2004 (the year covering the inauguration)

• If he comes to power, it must show at the swearing-in in January 2005, which falls in the 2004 TP year.
• Ruler of the year: Saturn.
• TP Dashamsha (Virgo lagna): he would be running Jupiter dasha, Saturn antardasha. Jupiter, 4th and 7th lord, is in the 3rd — his marana karaka sthana. Saturn is in the 6th from Jupiter and the 8th from lagna.
• The D-10 lagna changes two minutes later, but even then Jupiter does not show power.

"This Tithi Pravesha chart does not seem to show to me somebody who takes oath as the commander-in-chief of the most powerful nation on Earth."

This does not mean he cannot win; there are other good factors.

Bush — the Birth Time Dispute

• Recorded time: 7:26 AM, July 6, 1946, New Haven, Connecticut, time zone 4 hours west of GMT. The time is from hospital records.
• Pandit Sanjay Rath holds 7:26 to be accurate.
• PVNR rectifies to 7:30. Perhaps the child did not take breath at once.
• Four minutes do not change the natal Dashamsha lagna. They change the Dashamsha lagna of the annual charts, and that is the test.

Bush — Tithi Pravesha of 2000

After the election of November 2000 came weeks of litigation. Inside that TP year:

• Moon dasha (November and part of December) — tension and litigation.
• Mars dasha — he was declared the winner, about December 15.
• Mercury dasha — he took the oath. The actual power.

Mars is the ruler of that year.

With 7:26 — TP Dashamsha lagna Capricorn:

• Moon is the 7th lord in lagna with the 8th lord Sun: strong desire, some anxiety, but not litigation.
• Mars is the 4th and 11th lord in the 12th. One could argue that the badhaka lord in the 12th removes the badha. Still, no victory in a great democratic battle.
• Mercury is the 6th and 9th lord in the 12th. No coronation.

With 7:30 — TP Dashamsha lagna Aquarius (the lagna changes 3 minutes 17 seconds after 7:26):

• Moon is the 6th lord in the 12th. A dusthana lord in a dusthana is Viparita Raja Yoga — but Moon is with the Sun, the 7th lord, a quadrant lord, so it is not. Moon gives only the result of a 6th lord in the house of loss: quarrels, fights, litigation, no clarity.
• Mars is the 10th lord and Mercury the 5th lord. A quadrant lord and a trine lord joined in the 11th house of gains, aspecting the 5th → Raja Yoga. (They also aspect Ghatika Lagna, but that may not be accurate, so leave it.)
• Mars, ruler of the year → judged the winner. Mercury, 5th lord → the power itself. (The class also calls Mercury the lord of a special lagna; the recording is unclear which.)

"Moon gave litigation, Mars gave the final success, and Mercury gave the final real power."

Viparita Raja Yoga

• A dusthana lord in a dusthana, or two dusthana lords together in a dusthana → Viparita Raja Yoga.
• If a quadrant lord joins, it is not Viparita Raja Yoga. The dusthana lord then gives only what his lordship and house show.

Bush — Tithi Pravesha of 2004

Ruler of the year: Mercury.

Election day — Moon dasha (runs to December 2):

• In the TP Rashi chart (Sagittarius lagna) Moon is the 8th lord in the 10th. That can be a fall in career. The 8th lord can also show a surprise or anxiety in career. Neither can be concluded.
• Moon is with Hora Lagna and Ghatika Lagna (in Virgo in the 7:30 chart) and aspects the lagna by rashi drishti → a yogada for both money and power.

Inauguration — Mercury dasha, Venus antardasha:

• With 7:30, TP Dashamsha lagna is Gemini. Venus is the 5th lord in lagna; Mercury is the lagna and 4th lord in the 7th. They are in samasaptaka. Lagna lord and 5th lord in conjunction or in mutual 7th is a Maharaja Yoga; 4th and 5th lords together show the blessings of Vishnu. PVNR: with this time he cannot see him removed from office on that day.
• With 7:26, TP Dashamsha lagna is Taurus. Venus is lagna lord and Mercury 5th lord, still aspecting each other — but the dasha lord Mercury is in the 8th, the house of end or change. Power can be lost.

So with the recorded time there is a good chance he leaves office; with the rectified time a very good chance he stays.

Arudha Lagna: Benefics and Malefics in the 3rd and 6th

A student asked for the Arudha Lagna in Bush's 2004 TP chart.

• Benefics in the 3rd or 6th from Arudha Lagna → loss.
• Malefics in the 3rd or 6th from Arudha Lagna → gain, victory.
• Check the Navamsha: if the planet is debilitated there the result is reversed; if exalted it is strengthened.

In the chart:

• In the Dashamsha Mercury is in the 10th from Arudha Lagna — good for a benefic — and Moon in the 7th, a good placement.
• In the Rashi chart Moon is in the 6th from Arudha Lagna. It is a Shukla Ashtami Moon, a benefic, and exalted in Navamsha → loss. He makes the opponent look better.
• That is about how people see him — if it went to the courts again, people could be frustrated with him and see him as the loser. Whether he holds on to power is not read from Arudha Lagna. For that look at Lagna and Ghatika Lagna.

Yogada

• A planet that occupies or has rashi drishti on both Lagna and Ghatika Lagna is a yogada → gives power.
• A planet that occupies or aspects both Lagna and Hora Lagna is a yogada for money.

No Prediction Made

• For Kerry three quite different birth times exist; for Bush PVNR and Sanjay Rath do not agree on four minutes. The Bush chart is the more reliable of the two.
• Bush continuing in office cannot be ruled out on these charts. PVNR did not accept that Kerry's momentum from the last two debates settles it, and noted from Sudarshana Chakra Dasha that the last 7 or 8 days could swing toward Bush.

"The key is having the right time, and when we can't agree on the time, then prediction cannot take place."

Why Not the National Chart

• The chart of the USA is disputed: when the country became independent is not clear the way it is for India, and several charts circulate.
• One astrologer took the Lunar New Year chart, let Jupiter and Saturn stand for the two parties, and concluded Kerry had a good chance.
• PVNR's objection: such a chart shows the government, not the President. The same election also decides seats in the Senate and the House and some governors; the balance there can shift, or secretaries can change, while the President stays.
• Use the charts of the candidates.

Key Principles Summarized

A Sibling's Relatives in D-3

• Sibling → the sign holding the lord of the sibling's house (count forward from an odd lagna, backward from an even one).
• The sibling's spouse → Upapada from that lagna. Their children → 9th from that Upapada.
• The spouse's mother → the 4th sign from that Upapada (the sign itself, not its lord's).
• Each step away from the native makes the reading less crisp.
• Sun in one person's sign and Saturn in the other's → friction. Likewise Sun or Moon against Rahu or Ketu.
• The native's own mother-in-law is read in the Navamsha, not here.

Atmakaraka Dasha

• Good for spiritual growth, hard on material pursuits. Go with it.

Conditional Dashas

1. If a conditional nakshatra dasha applies, use it in place of Vimshottari.
2. If several apply, take the one with more years — unless one condition is generic (true for half of all charts); then the rarer condition wins.
3. Dwisaptati Sama (72 years): lagna lord in the 7th or 7th lord in lagna in the Rashi chart. It reads life as the pursuit of desires.
4. The condition repeating in Navamsha and Dashamsha makes it stronger; the Rashi chart alone is enough.
5. Hora of the lagna: odd sign Sun then Moon; even sign Moon then Sun. Day or night is decided by sunrise, not by the clock.

D-7 Children

• Mercury and Saturn in trines can deny; with Venus added they deny.
• Sun and Ketu in lagna override them.
• 5th = 11th from the 7th. Children of a second spouse = 11th from the 2nd = the 12th.

D-12 Father

1. 9th house itself = father's lagna (not the sign of its lord).
2. 6th against 7th from it → service or business.
3. 10th from it → the career. Argala on the planet there shapes it.

D-10 Timing

• Sun in a trine → idealism, coloured by the sign.
• Political success: 10th house and 5th house. An antardasha lord in the 12th from the 5th gives no following.
• Lagna lord with 5th lord = Maharaja Yoga. Moon with Jupiter = Gajakesari, lasting name.
• 3rd lord = a short break; 8th lord = a change in career.
• Judge the antardasha lord from the dasha lord as well as from lagna.
• Moon in the 7th: food or nursing business; with Jupiter, law.

D-24 Education

• 4th → 9th → 2nd, each the 6th from the last, because study builds on study.
• The 8th from the house of a study ends it.
• Rashi drishti shows what was actually studied; the planet strongest from that sign decides the subject.

Annual Charts

• Read the Tithi Pravesha year in which the event falls, its Dashamsha, and the dasha and antardasha on the day.
• Benefics in the 3rd or 6th from Arudha Lagna → loss; malefics there → gain. This is how the person is seen, not whether he holds power.
• A planet on or aspecting both Lagna and Ghatika Lagna gives power; both Lagna and Hora Lagna, money.
• A dusthana lord in a dusthana is Viparita Raja Yoga only if no quadrant lord joins him.
