Lesson 200 Reset: PVNR Returns to Drik Siddhanta(Surya Siddhanta Abandoned=No Objective Correlations for Arudhas); SC Dasha "Going Easy On"(Too Subjective); JHora: Recommended by Author Setting+360° Vimshottari Year+Physical Longitudes for Arudhas+Ascendant=Middle of 1H(±15°). Gandanta=Only Water→Fire Junctions. Prushthodeya Signs=Results at End of Dasha. Vishaptati Sama Dasha for D10
PVNR announces methodological reset at lesson 200 after ~1 year experimenting with Surya Siddhanta: "I could not find objective correlations to validate Surya Siddhanta for Arudha Padas, Chara Karakas, and related techniques; with Drik Siddhanta + Bhava Arudhas + physical longitudes, I found objective correlations over hundreds of examples — transit planets stationary at Arudha Padas, Vimshottari progression to natal divisional chart planets; those are objective." JHora settings to restore: (1) Preferences → Calculation Options → select "Recommended by Author (Drik Siddhanta)" = Drik + Jagannatha Ayanamsa. (2) Dasha window → right-click → "Definition of year" → "Solar longitude 360°" → apply to All dashas. (3) Arudha Pada Options: check "Use exceptions in bhava arudhapada", "Use exceptions in graha arudhapada", "Use Rahu/Ketu when stronger", "Find arudhapada using exact longitudes"; UNCHECK "Use divisional longitudes of planets." (4) House system: "Ascendant is the MIDDLE of 1st house" = ±15° from Lagna = 1st house. SC Dasha: "Going easy on it — too subjective, too many degrees of freedom; conditional nakshatra dashas in divisional charts also dropped (divisional lagna too time-sensitive, too many justifications possible)." What is retained: Vimshottari D1 + Vimshottari of divisional charts + Arudha Padas (physical longitudes) + Rashi Drishti + Graha Drishti + Argala + 15° bhava system + conditional dashas in D1 only. Gandanta definition: "ONLY end of water signs / beginning of fire signs (Cancer→Leo, Scorpio→Sagittarius, Pisces→Aries); not all sign borders." Prushthodeya/Shirshodaya/Ubhayodaya: Shirshodaya signs (Gemini/Leo/Virgo/Libra/Scorpio/Aquarius) = results in first half/1st third of dasha; Prushthodeya (Aries/Taurus/Cancer/Sag/Cap) = results at end of dasha; Ubhayodaya (Pisces) = middle. Vishaptati Sama Dasha: applicable in D10 when 7th lord is in Lagna OR lagna lord is in 7th; use instead of Vimshottari for D10. Varsha Adhipati: PVNR uses Hora Lord at year beginning (not Vara lord) = location-specific.
"I was not finding objective correlations with Surya Siddhanta for Arudha Padas. I tried many charts. But with Drik Siddhanta and physical longitudes for Arudhas, I found transit planets stationary exactly at Arudha Padas, Vimshottari progressions matching events. That is objective — you can't manipulate it after the fact. The goal is always a replicable method. If I cannot find objective evidence, I have to go back. And I am going back. The settings are now Drik Siddhanta."
— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao
Methodological Reset — Return to Drik Siddhanta
Context: PVNR announces a reversal after ~1 year of experimenting with Surya Siddhanta. He could not find objective correlations to validate Surya Siddhanta for Arudha Padas, Chara Karakas, and related techniques.
1a. JHora Settings to Restore
Step 1 — Siddhanta and Ayanamsa:
- Go to
Preferences → Related to Calculations → Calculation Options - Select "Recommended by Author (Drik Siddhanta)" → sets:
- Siddhanta = Drik Siddhanta
- Ayanamsa = Jagannatha Ayanamsa
- Various other options (sunrise, nodes, upagrahas) per PVNR's Drik Siddhanta research
Step 2 — Vimshottari Year Definition:
- Go to any Dasha window → right-click → "Definition of year in Dasha"
- Select "Solar longitude based year (360 degrees)"
- Apply to all Dashas (select "All" in the combo box)
- Previous approach: nakshatra dashas used 360° years, Rasi dashas used solar years
- New approach: consistently use 360° years for all dashas
Step 3 — Bhava Arudha Calculation:
- Go to
Preferences → Related to Calculations → Arudha Pada Calculation Options - Check: "Use exceptions in bhava arudhapada"
- Check: "Use exceptions in graha arudhapada"
- Check: "Use Rahu and Ketu when stronger"
- Check: "Find arudhapada of houses using exact longitudes"
- Uncheck: "Use divisional longitudes of planets"
- Reason: Physical longitudes of planets are used to find Arudha Padas; these give objective correlations (transit-to-pada, progression correlations). Divisional longitudes of planets did not yield objective correlations.
Step 4 — House System (Bhava Chakra):
- Go to
Basics tab → Houses lower tab → Context Menu - Select "Ascendant (or chosen reference) is the middle of 1st house"
- This means: ±15° from Lagna = 1st house; each house spans 15° before to 15° after its cusp
- Previous mistake: PVNR had tried ascendant as start of 1st house (30° from ascendant = 1st house), which was a misinterpretation of Parashara's aspect verses
Bhava Chakra button in JHora: Click the "B" icon in the chart toolbar → shows Bhava Chakra view
1b. What is Retained and What is Dropped
Retained:
- Vimshottari Dasha (D1)
- Vimshottari of Divisional Charts (D4, D9, D10, D12, D20, D24) — treating divisional chart as Rasi
- Arudha Padas (bhava arudhas: AL, A2, A3… etc.) based on physical longitudes
- Graha Arudhas (with caution — some objective research exists)
- Rashi Drishti (Jaimini sign aspects)
- Graha Drishti (Parashara planetary aspects)
- Argala
- 15° bhava system (ascendant as middle)
- Conditional Dashas in D1 chart only (where applicable)
Dropped / Reduced:
- Sudarshana Chakra Dasha: Not abandoned entirely, but acknowledged as too subjective/flexible; going easy on it
- Conditional Nakshatra Dashas in Divisional Charts: Easy to manipulate (divisional lagna sensitive to time), too many degrees of freedom
- Surya Siddhanta settings
PVNR's key reason for reverting:
— PVNR"If you take all the references (Lagna, Moon, Sun) and look at aspects and lagna shapes, it is very easy to justify so many things. The things are not crisp. But with Drik Siddhanta + Bhava Arudhas + physical longitudes, I found objective correlations over hundreds of examples — transit planets stationary at Arudha Padas, Vimshottari progression to natal divisional chart planets. Those are objective."
1c. Varsha Adhipati (Year Ruler) Definition
Standard definition: The weekday lord (Vara lord) at New Year sunrise = year ruler for that country
PVNR's definition (used for mundane predictions):
- Instead of Vara Lord, take the Hora Lord at the moment the year begins
- Hora Lord = ruler of the planetary hour at that time
- Reasoning: Drik Pravesh convention uses Hora Lord as ruler of the year; also gives different rulers for different parts of the world (Hora can differ by location)

Gandanta Definition
Gandanta = specifically the border between a water sign and the following fire sign:
- End of Cancer / beginning of Leo
- End of Scorpio / beginning of Sagittarius
- End of Pisces / beginning of Aries
Not Gandanta: All other sign borders (e.g., Virgo/Libra, Libra/Scorpio)
Significance: Any planet at the Gandanta border = problematic; can cause health problems, accidents
Rahu/Ketu — House Results vs. Ownership Results
Rahu/Ketu rule (restated):
— PVNR"Rahu and Ketu care more about where they are and who they are with (their company) than about the house they own. Other planets always remember their lordship responsibility. Rahu/Ketu basically act like their company — whoever they are with, they act like that planet."
Prushthodeya / Shirshodaya / Ubhayodaya — Dasha Result Timing
Three types of signs (based on which direction they rise):
- Shirshodaya (rises head-first): Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Aquarius → results in first 1/3 to first half of dasha
- Prushthodeya (rises back-first): Aries, Taurus, Cancer, Sagittarius, Capricorn → results in second half or end of dasha
- Ubhayodaya (rises both ways): Pisces → results in the middle of dasha
Application:
— PVNR"If the dasha planet is in a Prushthodeya sign, expect results towards the end of that dasha period. Shirshodaya sign planets give results earlier. This applies to both mahadasha and antardasha periods."
Vishaptati Sama Dasha — Conditional D10 Dasha
Condition: 7th lord is in Lagna OR Lagna lord is in the 7th house in the D10 chart
When applicable: Use Vishaptati Sama Dasha instead of Vimshottari for D10 career analysis
Example: In Deepak's D10, Mercury (7th lord) is in Lagna → Vishaptati Sama Dasha applies, and Mars Dasha during that period correctly showed career recognition (Mars = 5th lord in 5th house)
