D20 Vimshamsa — Spirituality Chart & Three-Level Framework

The D20 (Vimshamsa) as the chart of spiritual progress and bhakti. Introduction to the three-level house reading framework: Lagna houses (inner truth), Arudha Lagna houses (outer image), and individual Arudha Padas (tangible results). Why these three levels must be read together for any life area.

"Any planet that occupies an Arudha OR has Argala on an Arudha will tend to give results relating to that Arudha during that antardasha."

— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao

D-20 (Vimshamsa) — Chart of Spirituality

D-20 represents: Religious and spiritual activities, spiritual growth, sadhana, and the progress of the soul toward moksha.

The key ability for spiritual growth: Not intelligence, not knowledge, but Bhakti (devotion). A rickshaw driver with deep devotion may be spiritually more advanced than a learned scholar.

Houses in D-20

HouseMeaning in D-20 Context
5H from LagnaReal bhakti/devotion — the unseen, internal devotion one has toward God
A5 (5th house Arudha)Tangible spiritual practices — the pujas, homams, mantras, rituals people can observe
5H from ALPerceived devotion — what people think of your spiritual life

"My real bhakti to Lakshmi is from the 5th house — invisible, only God knows it. If I say 'I have bhakti to Lakshmi,' you cannot see it or measure it. But A5 is the puja I do — reading Lakshmi's 108 names on Fridays. That is a tangible thing people can observe. And the 5th from my Arudha Lagna is what people actually think of my devotion."

— PVNR

Important: These three (real bhakti, tangible practices, perceived devotion) usually correlate but not always. Someone may receive a Filmfare Award for a role people say was "political" — the A5 (trophy = tangible recognition) is there, but the 5H from AL shows people don't think it was deserved.

Debilitated Planets in D-20 Are the STRONGEST

This is a crucial rule specific to Vimshamsa:

Two Prakritis (natures/principles):

PrakritiSanskrit TermQualityExample
ExaltationPurusha PrakritiAhankara (pride, excitement) — gives results easily but struggles under pressureCarries good fortune; results come with ease
DebilitationSri PrakritiPatience, submission, persistence, working hardMost important quality for spiritual growth

Why debilitation is strongest in D-20:

  • We are born human because we are separated from Paramatma
  • To merge back, we need persistence, patience, and devotion — not pride or excitement
  • A debilitated planet shows Sri Prakriti — submission to the deity
  • Venus debilitated in D-20 = submission to Lakshmi → deep Lakshmi bhakti
  • Exalted planet = shows off, but may not have depth of devotion

Historical example: Srila Prabhupada (founder of ISKCON) had 3–4 debilitated planets in his Vimshamsa. Superficially this looks bad. In reality, it shows extraordinary devotion and patience — which indeed gave him global reach for spreading Krishna consciousness.

"Don't think debilitation in D-20 is bad. It actually shows lot of devotion and patience — submitting to that particular deity. It is stronger than exaltation in the matter of spiritual charts."

— PVNR

Note: This same principle (debilitation = working hard = good in karma charts) applies in D-10 (Dasamsa) too, because Dasamsa is the chart of karma/delivery to society — patience and hard work are valued there as well.

PVNR's D-20 Analysis

Key placement in D-20: A5 is in Dhanu (Sagittarius)

Planets aspecting A5 in D-20: Mercury (Vishnu), Mars (Hanuman), Sun (Sita), Venus (Lakshmi)

Venus debilitated in D-20: Strongest planet here. Shows submission to Lakshmi → Lakshmi bhakti is primary.

Mercury in own house in D-20: Strong (Narayana = Mercury+Vishnu energy). Narayana and Lakshmi are the dominant deities of this spiritual chart.

Jupiter's role in A5:

  • Jupiter owns Dhanu (Sagittarius) = owner of A5's sign
  • Jupiter has 11th house Argala on A5 (being in the 11th house from A5)
  • Argala from house lord = very decisive influence on that house

Result during Shani Dasha / Guru Antardasha:

  • Jupiter is the Karaka for Mantras in D-20
  • Jupiter is in Venus's sign (Libra?) → Venus dominates, Lakshmi bhakti wins
  • January 28, 1994: PVNR started reading Lakshmi's 108 names, 108 times every Friday
  • This is a tangible spiritual practice (A5) triggered by Jupiter's Argala on A5 during Jupiter's antardasha

"The relationship between 5H (real bhakti) and A5 (tangible practice) usually has a link — what you have bhakti for is what you end up practicing. In this case, the connection was clear: Venus/Lakshmi interest in A5 led to the Lakshmi sahasranama starting in that period."

— PVNR

Three-Level House Analysis — Final Summary

PVNR ends Lesson 10 with a clear restatement of the core framework:

"The houses from lagna show qualities of the person — internal qualities, inherent internal potential qualities. The arudha of the house is something external that people can see. And the houses from Arudha Lagna will show qualities of the image — perceived qualities, how people perceive the various qualities of that person."

— PVNR
LevelReferenceWhat It Shows
Level 1Houses from LagnaReal, internal, inherent potential — hidden, even the person may not fully know it
Level 2Arudha of the house (An)Tangible, visible, material manifestation — trophies, books, practices, titles, achievements
Level 3Houses from Arudha LagnaPerceived qualities — what people think of that person's various qualities

Examples:

  • 5H from Lagna = real abilities (nobody can directly see)
  • A5 = awards, ranks, certifications, spiritual practices (tangible — people can see)
  • 5H from AL = what people think of your abilities (people's perception)

Example (Arudha Lagna as "image"):

"When people think of PVNR, they think of particular knowledge, devotion, karma, job, title. AL is that image. 3rd from AL is the initiative of that image. It is not artificial — it is what is actually manifesting because of the way I act and apply my consciousness. That is why people have that image."

— PVNR

Example (A5 as independent entity):

  • A5 = the puja I am doing (independent entity)
  • Houses from A5 can show the fortune of that puja (8H from A5 = break to the puja)
  • "Technically you can take houses from any Arudha, but they show things relating to that Arudha's entity — not relating to you directly. AL is the exception: it still shows you, just as people perceive you."

Key Principles Introduced in Lesson 10

PrincipleRule
Mahadasha karakaSun — focus on houses from Lagna, lordship, strength
Antardasha karakaMoon — focus on Arudha padas
Arudha in antardashaPlanet occupying or having Argala on an Arudha gives that Arudha's results in its antardasha
3H malefic gives lazinessAuspicious for malefics (3, 6, 11), but 3H specifically causes slow start
Debilitation in D-20Strongest placement — shows Sri Prakriti (patience, submission, devotion)
Paka LagnaLagna lord = shows intelligence, activities, how person thinks/feels
Lagna vs Moon VimshottariMore planets in Kendra from Lagna → use Lagna Vimshottari (proactive, independent); Moon (reactive, mind-driven)
Badhaka SthanaMovable = 11H; Fixed = 9H; Dual = 7H. Undiagnosable troubles, spiritual sources
D-6 houses6H = disease; 8H = death/Mrityusthana; 11H = Hara Sthana (bad)
Sun/Moon in D-6 afflicted by nodesVery bad for health — physical or mental vitality attacked
A6 (Roga Pada)Tangible disease. House lord having Argala on its own house makes disease manifest strongly
Body partsAlways use Naisargika Chakra (natural zodiac from Aries) — not natal Lagna
Remedy for healthStrengthen the karaka (Sun for physical vitality) to fight afflicting planets
