D10 Career Analysis Principles

9th House: Navamsa vs. Dasamsa

"In Navamsa, 9th house doesn't show any boss. It shows your abilities and your dharma. In Dasamsa it shows your boss and hence your dharma."

• Being good at writing a certain piece of software does not make it your dharma at work. What the boss tells you to do is.

Lagna Lord in the 9th or the 10th

The lagna lord is your whole energy as far as career goes.

"They don't like being bossed. They hate people defining their dharma. If you see somebody who works for you who has that combination, be very careful. Don't be bossy with him."

10th House or 10th Lord

• A planet alone in the 10th shows one line of activity. The actual career is given by whichever is stronger — here the 10th lord, not the 10th house.
• Example from the previous class: another student's 10th lord gave a logical, analytical software and hardware career, while Jupiter in Ishana amsha gave a parallel line of teaching.

Interview, Offer and Recognition

The question from the class: a first job should involve the 6th house, the house of service.

• The 6th is the hard work done and the obstacles overcome as part of the karma. The interview is not seen from the 6th.
• 3rd house = initiative and communication. You go to the interview.
• 9th house = 7th from the 3rd, the desire of the initiative. That is the offer.
• 5th house = recognition of abilities. Somebody liked the resume.

"Just like an actor getting a Filmfare Award or Oscar Award, a software engineer getting a job offer is analogous to that. You see getting a job offer from 5th house and 9th house — the recognition from the 5th house and the offer from the 9th house."

3rd and 8th of D10 — Breaks

"If you see a planet, especially a planet associated with the 6th house or 10th house, placed in the 3rd or 8th house, that is not so good. That planet shows some kind of break in the career."

• A short break can be losing the job for a while, or going on leave somewhere for a couple of months.

Each Divisional Lagna Has to Be Checked

• The lagna changes at different times in different divisional charts. A sure Saptamsha lagna does not make the Dasamsa lagna sure.
• Before predicting from a divisional chart, be confident that its lagna is right. So the child's birth was not used to fix the D10. Career events were.

Dasamsa Amsha Meanings

The deity ruling a planet's dasamsa shows the direction of that planet's work. The nature of the planet decides what the amsha turns into.

Lagna in Brahma Amsha with Rahu in Lagna

"Rahu in lagna and lagna being in Brahma amsha — he has that R&D mentality. He may or may not be in R&D, but his attitude in career is that of keep digging, keep digging, let's find out."

Sun in Ananta Amsha

• Sun is management, administration, politicians and kings.
• Sun in Indra amsha: politics — running for president of an association.
• Sun in Ananta amsha: administrative work for spiritual activities.

Mercury in Yama Amsha

• Mercury's work is logical and analytical. Yama makes him do it as a duty.
• Good at testing: test suites, strategies to find bugs. That is Mercury. Mars in Yama amsha would be a police officer who does his duty with a cold heart.

"Mercury being in Yama amsha shows a detached and very sincere analytical person who can use his analytical abilities very coldly without any emotions. If you criticize his design, he can easily take it, as well as he can come up with good criticism of other designs."

• Contrast: Mercury in Indra amsha uses the analytical ability to get power. Such a person is possessive about his design and gets offended when a flaw is pointed out.

Student Chart Career Analysis (D10)

The native: an engineer in R&D. Processor-board hardware design first, then embedded software and device drivers. First job on December 11, 1980.

Choosing the D10 Lagna: Leo or Cancer

• At 2:22 PM the lagna is 24°22' Sagittarius, just past a 3° boundary. D10 lagna is Leo. One and a half minutes earlier it is Cancer. Later is ruled out. Two candidates only.
• First job in Mercury dasha, Rahu antardasha.

With Leo:

• 10th lord Venus and 2nd lord Mercury are together in the 5th (Sagittarius). Two artha trikona lords in the house of recognition. The first job is the first recognition of ability.
• Rahu is in lagna. Lagna is a new beginning in that area of life. A5 is also in lagna, so Rahu shows recognition in career.
• A formal job is a tangible thing, so give weight to arudhas. Arudha Lagna is Scorpio; Mercury and Venus are in the 2nd from it. Mercury has shubha argala on AL.

With Cancer:

• Arudha Lagna would be Libra, and Mercury and Venus would be in the 3rd from it. Benefics in the 3rd from AL are not well placed. Not a planet to start a career.

Mercury started the career, so Leo is right.

Resources: What Is and What People See

• 2nd from lagna: Saturn, the 6th lord, in Virgo. His true resource is analytical ability with discipline, hard work, and the capacity to go through suffering.
• 2nd from Arudha Lagna: Mercury and Venus. The world sees intelligence and passion — a smart, resourceful person.
• Saturn has rasi drishti on the 2nd from AL, so people also know he is hard-working. Without it the discipline would be there but nobody would know.
• Venus and Mercury in turn have rasi drishti and argala on the 2nd from lagna. What is and what people think agree closely.
• Venus with Saturn is stronger than Saturn alone. Venus brings rajas and passion, Saturn the ability to keep going without emotion. A kind of Tapasya Yoga, not full because Ketu is missing.

"You have Venus to push you there and Saturn to keep you going."

The Reading

• Lagna in Brahma amsha, Rahu in lagna → the R&D mentality.
• Sun, the lagna lord, alone in the 10th, in Ananta amsha → a line of work into which he puts all his energy: administrative work for spiritual activities. Confirmed. The teacher had looked at this chart before asking him to take on such work.
• That is one karma, not the whole career. The 10th lord is stronger than the 10th house.
• Venus, Mercury and Saturn — 10th, 2nd and 6th lords, all three artha trikona lords — are in Sagittarius and Virgo and aspect each other by rasi drishti. These two signs carry the career.
• Mercury dominates Venus:
  1. Venus is in an enemy's sign in Sagittarius; Mercury is in a neutral sign.
  2. Mercury is the dispositor of 6th lord Saturn and they aspect each other by rasi drishti. So Mercury has a say over the 2nd and the 6th, and joins the 10th lord.
• Mercury is in Yama amsha → logical, analytical work done as a duty; testing and design verification.

First Job — Tithi Pravesha of 1980

• Ruler of the year: Saturn.
• D10 lagna of the year is Libra. Saturn owns the 4th and 5th: a kendra and a kona lord, a yogakaraka.
• He is in the 9th — fortune, dharma, offers — and in Arudha Lagna.

"Being a yogakaraka placed in Arudha Lagna, he shows some kind of beginning in the status."

The Year Just Ended — Tithi Pravesha of September 2, 2003

• Ruler of the year: Venus.
• In the D10 of the year Venus owns the 6th and the 11th and sits in the 3rd, the house of short breaks.
• The 6th is service. Its lord in the 3rd: a break in service. During this year he stopped working.

Ruler of the year: Mars.

Rasi chart of the year (Cancer lagna):

• Mars owns the 5th and the 10th: a yogakaraka.
• Jupiter, Sun, Mercury and Mars are in Leo. Mars is close to Mercury and Sun, but neither owns a kendra or kona — no Raj Yoga there.
• Raj Yoga with Jupiter: 9th lord with 10th lord, and Atmakaraka with Putrakaraka. But Jupiter is at 28° and Mars at 13°, so it takes time to fructify.
• Jupiter, the slower planet, is ahead and Mars is approaching him. So it will come, after a few months. Had Mars been ahead he would only be moving away.

D10 of the year (Scorpio lagna):

• Mars is the lagna lord, in the 2nd with Venus, the 7th lord.
• Venus and Jupiter have a parivartana, so Venus acts as Jupiter, the 2nd and 5th lord. Lagna lord with the 2nd and 5th lord in the house of resources. The Mars–Jupiter Raj Yoga repeats in D10.
• A good year for career.

"When lagna lord happens to be the ruler of the year, that year is a year of new beginning or fresh reinforcement."

"When Am I Going to Get a Job?"

• Mars dasha (about November 7 to December 5) is the key period of the year. Mars–Jupiter, in the middle of November, is very likely. The 5th house has to be involved in a new job, and Jupiter is the 5th lord.
• Sun dasha (running at the time of the class): in the rasi chart Sun is 2nd lord in the 2nd — family, money matters. In the navamsa he is 7th lord in the 4th — happiness with the wife. Not much for a new job.
• Moon dasha is a very good candidate. In D10 Moon is the 9th lord in the 5th, with the 4th lord. He links the 5th of recognition with the 9th of offers. 4th and 9th lords together: comfort on account of dharma — the duty is defined, and that gives peace.
• A student added that Moon also owns A5. A5 is the formal recognition: "we like you," said at an interview, is a tangible thing.

"Either in Moon dasha or Mars dasha he should have a job. Before December 5th he should land in a job."

Higher or lower status? Status is seen from Arudha Lagna.

• Arudha Lagna of the year's D10 is Capricorn. Mars is in the 12th from it: some loss in image.
• He may have to settle for something slightly below his expectation or his past record.
• But he will not struggle the whole year. Mars is lagna lord and is in a Raj Yoga. A new beginning, slightly lower.
• A student objected that Moon's placement looks very good. Answer: the dasha lord decides which period delivers. How the year goes overall is seen from the ruler of the year and lagna lord, and from where he stands from Arudha Lagna.

Business in This Year?

• The Mars–Jupiter Raj Yoga of the D10 exists only because of Venus and the parivartana. Venus is the 7th lord: it comes through a partner, colleague or associate.
• The 7th is the house of desire. Jupiter sits in the 7th and Venus owns it, so the 7th is stronger than the 6th this year.
• Thumb rule: 6th weak and 7th strong gives one's own business. But a strong 7th is only a strong desire — it can be a desire to help somebody. The desire has to be financial.
• Here the 7th lord Venus is in Kubera amsha: money-mindedness. So if he means to start a business or return to one, this is a good year. Jupiter, Venus and Mars dashas are the auspicious periods for anything to do with business — above all Mars dasha, the key period of the year.
• Jupiter in the 7th is in Ananta amsha. Venus pulls toward money, Jupiter toward spiritual upliftment.

"Whenever you see Jupiter–Rahu or Sun–Rahu or Moon–Rahu or Jupiter–Venus, any two planets who show two extremes having an influence on the same house, they will pound that person."

• Who wins cannot be told from the annual chart alone; see the natal chart. The clash may run for years. Do not worry over why it is happening.
• For the year: pray to a Mars deity — Kartikeya, Hanuman or Narasimha — since Mars is yogakaraka, ruler of the year and in a Raj Yoga.

Arudha Map for Job Timing

Karma is not the same as a job. A person may already be doing a lot of karma — work at a temple, for instance — before any job. The formal fact of being an engineer at a company is a tangible thing, and tangible things are seen from arudhas.

"When you are talking about formal job, give more importance to Arudha."

Uses in this chart:

• Natal D10: A5 in lagna with Rahu → Rahu antardasha gave the first recognition, the first job.
• Natal D10: Mercury and Venus in the 2nd from AL → Mercury dasha started the career.
• 1980 annual D10: yogakaraka Saturn in AL → a beginning in status.
• 2004 annual D10: Mars in the 12th from AL → a job, at a slightly lower level.

Reading a Tithi Pravesha Year

Annual Chart First, Then Vimshottari

• With Vimshottari the perfect candidate's dasha and antardasha do not always give the event. Timing by Vimshottari alone, you push the time back for the marriage, forward for the job, and go in circles.
• A marriage shows strongly in the navamsa of that year's Tithi Pravesha. A job shows strongly in its dasamsa. This holds even where the Tithi Ashtottari dasha is not perfect.

"If you give a lot of importance to the Tithi Pravesha chart, the annual charts, you cannot go wrong. And then reconcile with the Vimshottari dasha. In the case of annual charts, the reconciliation needed is very minimal."

• Pick the charts by the events given. Keep track of the plus and minus window at every step; then the final window of certainty is known.

The Ruler of the Year and Tithi Ashtottari Dasha

• The Tithi Pravesha chart is found for a given year and read like a natal chart. It applies to that year only.
• Its Hora lord is the ruler of the year, like the king of the year. See the houses he owns and occupies for the main events.
• The ruler's own dasha is an important one. What the year promises, if no other planet has given it, he can give.
• Tithi Ashtottari dasha is the dasha for this chart. Use it to see what happens when within the year.

"Whoever is Hora lord, he becomes the ruler of the year, and that planet is like the king of that year. He takes control over your life."
