ND vs VD Vantage Points, Cross-Divisional Chart Links (D4↔D2↔D20) & Annual Chart 2005 Confirmation

Vimshottari Dasha Confirmation

• The event came at the very end of Sun daśā, on the border of Sun and Moon daśā (Moon daśā could have begun by December).
• In D4 Sun is the 10th lord and Moon is the 9th lord, and they exchange signs: 9th lord in the 10th, 10th lord in the 9th.
• The dharma-karma yoga found in Part 4 is what gave its result.
• The antardaśā was Sun–Venus. It is read from the hora chart in Part 8.

Tithi Pravesh (Annual Chart) 2005 Confirmation

"The natal chart shows some fortune … but it should be seen in the annual chart also, otherwise the event wouldn't happen."

The Tithi Praveśa of 2005 falls on 5 February 2005, about 11:00 AM IST at the birthplace. The hora lord — the ruler of the year — is Venus. Because the month of the event is not known, the teacher leaves the daśā aside at first and looks only for yogas.

Rāśi Chart of the Year (Aries Lagna)

• The 4th lord Moon, lord of the house of house, is with the lagna and 8th lord Mars in Sagittarius: a Chandra-Mangala yoga.
• Moon is in the 1st degree and Mars in the 5th, about 4½° apart. Within 6° is a close conjunction.
• So there is a good yoga on the 4th lord.

D4 of the Year (Cancer Lagna)

• The lagna lord Moon again joins Mars. For Cancer lagna Mars owns the 10th (Aries) and the 5th (Scorpio) — a quadrant and a trine — so he is the yogakaraka.
• They are in the 6th. Is that a good house for them?
  • The 3rd, 6th and 11th are upachayas, where Saturn, Mars, Rahu and Ketu enjoy being. Good for malefics, not so good for benefics.
  • The tithi is Krishna Ekadashi — the waning fortnight, close to Amavasya. Moon is a malefic here.

"Whenever I ask anything relating to Moon, first thing you should look at is to see whether he is a benefic or malefic. Based on it, his action will be totally different."

• Two natural malefics join in the 6th. The Chandra-Mangala yoga and the raja yoga of the lagna lord and the 5th lord are auspicious because they form in an upachaya. The lagna lord with the 5th lord brings purva punya to the fore.

A9 and A8 Again

• A yoga alone is not enough for a tangible fortune such as a lottery for a house. A4 is the house you own; A9 is "very, very important".
• Moon and Mars have both rāśi dṛṣṭi and graha dṛṣṭi on A9 (Gemini, opposite them).
• A8 is with A9, exactly as in the natal D4.

"Some sudden event like winning a lottery — unless there is some link between A9 and A8, doesn't have to be together, some strong link between A9 and A8, you won't get fortune in a lottery or some sudden inheritance."

Jupiter Joins

• Jupiter (in Gemini, in A9) and Moon–Mars aspect each other.
• A student's point, which the teacher calls brilliant: Jupiter is the dispositor of the yoga.
• He is also the 9th lord. The 5th lord Mars, the 9th lord Jupiter and the lagna lord Moon — all three trine lords are together in this.
• Jupiter is in the 7th from Moon, so the two also form a Gajakesari yoga.
• Moon and Jupiter were the 9th and 5th lords of the natal D4. The same planets play again.

"When you see a yoga similar to what exists in the natal chart in the annual chart, and if some of the planets involved there are also involved, you can expect something important happening with respect to the matters shown by that divisional chart."

Who Gave It — a Class Exercise

• Candidates: Jupiter, Rahu, Venus, Sun, Moon. Sun (October 31 – November 19) and Moon are dropped on the time frame the student remembers.
• Venus is the ruler of the year and the 4th lord of this D4. The ruler of the year is like the CEO of a company: others do the work, the CEO presents it and takes the credit. So he can give any important combination in the chart.
  • Venus has no part in the 9th house or A9 beyond an argala on A9, "not a big deal". Were he not the ruler of the year, you would not expect it from him.
• Rahu is the 8th lord and is with Venus, so Rahu ends up giving Venus's result.
  • The class notes add: Rahu is in the 12th from Arudha Lagna (AL in Taurus, Rahu in Aries). Rahu or Saturn in the 12th from AL gives a raja yoga. Overall he is a good planet here.
• Jupiter is the 9th lord, in A9, with clear raja yogas.
• Teacher's ranking: Jupiter and Rahu are strong possibilities, Venus a secondary one.
• The class votes Jupiter — his daśā runs May 13 to July 15. Nobody picks Rahu.
• It is left unconfirmed: "You talk to the person and confirm."
• The class notes close on Jupiter: he is in A9 and A8 and aspects the Moon–Mars yoga, so he is stronger than Venus, and Jupiter daśā must have given the fortune.

Narayana Dasha vs Vimshottari Dasha — Two Vantage Points

Late in the class a student asks to see D2, the chart of wealth. The house came as a fortune, but it was not money in hand. (The hora chart used in class has Leo lagna and planets in all twelve signs; the class notes name it the Kashinatha hora, the chart for finances. The site's D2 uses a different scheme, so the placements below are the teacher's.)

Vimshottari in the Hora Chart — Sun–Venus

• The hora lagna (Leo) holds A9, A5 and A10 together: tangible luck, the tangible form of purva punya, and the karma done in financial life.
• Sun is the lord of that sign and aspects it. So Sun daśā can give a financial fortune.
• Venus is the lord of A8, the sudden change in the financial position. He is with Sun, and both aspect the lagna and the Arudha Lagna.
• Venus is also the 10th lord of this chart (Taurus from Leo).
• "Sun–Venus is a very auspicious combination. That's when it happened."

Narayana Daśā of the Hora Chart — Cancer

• The Narayana daśā of D2 running at the event was Cancer.
• Cancer is pṛṣṭodaya, so its own results belong to the last third. The event was not there, not even in the last month. The class agrees it does not fit as a windfall.
• But Cancer is the 12th house. The 12th lord Moon is in the 4th (Scorpio) and the 4th lord Ketu is in the 12th: an exchange between the lord of expenditure and investment and the lord of home. Spending a lot of money on a house in this daśā makes sense.
• Then it should come in Moon's third, not Cancer's. By the normal order Moon, sitting in śīrṣodaya Scorpio, gives at the beginning and Cancer at the end.
• A student points out that Ketu is in Cancer. Traditionally, when Ketu is there, things are reversed. Perhaps that applies to the order of the three parts too.

"We don't have clear guidance from the tradition on this, but sometimes you can be creative and then experiment, see if it makes sense."

• With the order reversed, the last third is Moon's.

Four Quarters within a Planet's Part

A planet's share is divided into four.

• Benefic: first the house he occupies, then his yogas, then the houses he owns, last his own nature and state.
• Malefic: the reverse. As the teacher lists it after correcting himself: his own state, then his yogas, then the houses he owns, then the house he occupies.
• Moon is a malefic in this chart and the event came in the second quarter — the quarter of his yogas. His yoga is the exchange of the 4th and 12th lords: investment in a home.
• "Even though he won $200,000 concession, basically he spent a lot of money."

Two Vantage Points

"Narayana daśā is the reality. No emotions, no feelings there. And Vimshottari daśā is full of feelings."

"You are looking at the same room. If you look from that corner, it looks different. If you look from the sky, it looks different."

When the Hora Chart Must Show It

• Spending a lot of money must show in the hora chart.
• Buying a house as an investment, to sell in two or five years, is a financial transaction — "not just about owning property, it is about making money" — so D2 must show it.
• If someone does it for a living, D10 must link with D4.
• When he invests it shows as an expense, a temporary loss. When he makes the money it shows as a gain.

Cross-Divisional Chart Links — Core Principle

"Grahas and rāśis, planets and signs, are the link between various areas of life, various domains of life."

Method

1. Find the important yoga in one divisional chart.
2. Take the signs or planets of that yoga to another divisional chart.
3. See which houses they are there and how they are placed.
4. That shows how the event in one area of life touches the other.

Use common sense as well: look for a link only where one is possible.

This Chart — the Capricorn–Cancer Axis

The yogas of D4 lie between Capricorn (5th lord Jupiter) and Cancer (the 9th house), and the Narayana daśā triggered them.

• Hora: "The excellent luck that he experienced relating to property, as far as financial environment is concerned, results in taking a big loan and spending a lot of money."
• D20: Rahu and Ketu in the 8th show spiritual progress and experiences. The sign that holds the 5th lord Jupiter in D4 holds them in D20. The purva punya that gave him this particular house can trigger spirituality: the house he moved into can be conducive to spiritual experiences in the coming years.
• D10: the axis falls on the 3rd and 9th. The 9th is the boss; Saturn, the 3rd and 4th lord, is there — not a good boss. (For fixed Scorpio the 9th is also the badhaka sthana.) There is no special yoga in that sign. No positive effect on the career.

The Same Fortune, Different Results

• One man's fortune in property ends as more cash in the bank. For another the same yoga makes him invest more money. For a third it starts a business.
• If the planets of the property yoga also form a big business yoga in the 7th of his D10, he may sell a property at a $200,000 profit, start a business with it — the teacher's example is a dental clinic — and be a millionaire ten years later.
• A man is promoted at work by luck: the one ahead of him leaves, he becomes manager, then director when the company is bought. If the planets and sign of that D10 yoga are badly placed in the hora chart, he gets position and no money. If they show gains there — the 11th house, the 11th from Arudha Lagna — he gets the position and the money.

"Sometimes just looking at one divisional chart, you won't get a full picture."

The Standard Pairs

• Navamsa with every chart. Navamsa is dharma, and the protection you enjoy from the dharma you followed in the past — the devatas who protect you. "Whether you are learning, whether you are going to your work, whether you are making money, saving money, in all areas of life, that protection of God is very crucial."
• D10 and D2 — career and money.
• D10 and D16 — career and happiness.
• D10 and D24 — career and learning. You learn on the job, or learn and use it on the job.
• D10 and D20 — for a spiritual person. It may not be a career, but the work done in society is the link.
• Get creative beyond these. Rajiv Gandhi: there must be a link between D12 (parents) and D10 (career); he would not have reached the top position without his mother.

"What we saw in these examples is very simple, but you can get more deep."

D10 / D20 Rectification

The Lagna Is on a Border

• The rāśi lagna is just short of 9° Leo. D10 changes every 3° and D20 every 1½°; 9° is a multiple of both.
• 46 seconds later both the D10 lagna and the D20 lagna change.
• The recorded time is 19:30. It may have been 7:31. The child may not have cried or drawn breath until the next minute, or the time was rounded.
• So D10 is Libra or Scorpio, and D20 is Taurus or Gemini. Settle D10 from the profession; D20 follows.

Profession Decides — Scorpio D10

• The native works in quality assurance on financial application software. He has been in this line for a long time.
• The 2nd, 6th and 10th are the artha houses. Mercury is the planet to expect there for this work.
• With Scorpio lagna, Rahu and Mercury are in the 10th (Leo). "Mercury-Rahu also makes perfect sense."
• Venus, the planet of all the details, falls in the 6th.
• A case can be made for Saturn with Libra lagna, "but this is much more convincing".
• "My guess is Scorpio is more right." The teacher adds that there is no time to go through it in detail.

D20 with Gemini Lagna

• Devata he is attached to: Saturn occupies the 5th, Libra, a Venusian sign. Saturn was already the moksha devata. There may be an attachment to Lakshmi-Narayana already.
• Is he spiritual?
  • Atmakaraka Moon is in the lagna. "Atmakaraka in lagna in any divisional chart is good for that divisional chart."
  • The 12th lord Venus is in the lagna.
  • The lagna lord Mercury is with Jupiter in the 7th, and Jupiter aspects the lagna.
  • Moon is not a benefic in this chart, but all three benefics — the lagna lord Mercury, the 5th lord Venus, the 10th lord Jupiter — are on the lagna axis.
• "He is a religious person." If told to do a puja, he may be doing it already or will be willing to.
