The Father Read from D-12

Sun in the 9th raises the question: is the father strong? PVNR stops the class there.

Do Not Read the Father from the Rāśi Chart

• The 9th in the rāśi chart is the guidance and protection a person enjoys. It may come through the father, a guru, or the fortune Mahālakṣmī gives.
• From this rāśi chart all one can say is: physically he has good fortune, protection and guidance; finding direction in life is not a problem.
• One father may be dead while the guru is excellent. The rāśi chart cannot separate them.

"If you can't conclusively say, then don't say it. It is so simple."

• People try to see everything in the rāśi chart. That is looking at a cloud: one sees a face, another a heart, another a śivaliṅga.
• If rāśi shows an engineer and Dvādaśāṁśa a doctor, and Dvādaśāṁśa is the more reliable, go to it directly.
• What each gives: Dvādaśāṁśa, with its 9th as lagna, shows who the father is. The 9th of the rāśi chart shows the physical protection one gets. The strength of the rāśi 9th lord in Dvādaśāṁśa shows whether the parents protect well. That lordship link is the connection between rāśi and the divisional charts.

The Exercise

D-12 lagna is Aquarius. The 9th, Libra, is taken as the father's lagna. The student knows the father and judges the guesses. (At this birth time the D-12 lagna holds for an error of a little over two minutes.)

Nature

• Libra: balanced, diplomatic.
• Venus in his own sign and Saturn, exalted and retrograde, in lagna: a fine rāja yoga. Hard-working and loving.
• Venus in lagna is not "happy-go-lucky" — that is Moon and Mercury, who are carefree. Venus can be strict, and makes no bones about it when unhappy with someone. He shows love of nice things and luxuries, together with the capacity to work hard.
• Ketu in the 12th: some spirituality.

Career — the three artha trikoṇas from Libra

• 2nd (Scorpio): Mars in his own sign with Sun, the 11th lord. The strongest. The 11th is gains, and work is done for gains; when the 11th lord joins one of the three houses, that house gets priority.
• 6th (Pisces): Moon, the 10th lord, with Rahu.
• 10th (Cancer): Jupiter. Moon and Jupiter are in parivartana — 10th and 6th lords.
• Guesses from the class: engineer (Mars, with Sun and with Rahu in the 6th); psychologist (Moon–Rahu, with the parivartana with Jupiter); teaching, consulting, law (Jupiter); finance (a student's nāḍi reading of Saturn with Venus; another adds that a retrograde Jupiter aspects from the previous sign — "not exactly a principle that I believe in").
• Answer: an engineer, who also taught. Mars dominates; Jupiter is covered too. Psychologist was a very good guess, and with the same Dvādaśāṁśa another person could well be one. Law was technically the weakest option.
• His training was in one branch and his working life in telecom. Saturn's field is the knowledge (Saturn owns the 4th); the work goes by the 10th lord Moon with Rahu, and by Mars.

"Normally there is only one trikoṇa that is really strong and it is easy to guess. Here there are so many influences. But you will get this kind of chart in real life."

Saturn in maraṇa kāraka sthāna

• Saturn in the 1st is in his maraṇa kāraka sthāna. From Libra he is 4th and 5th lord, so one of those houses takes a big setback.
• 4th lord so placed can show: the mother dying early or bad relations with her; schooling interrupted or begun late; constant vehicle trouble; no comfort or luxury.
• Feedback: the father's own father died when he was very young, and he had to leave home to study. He enjoys comforts when he has them but does not go out of his way for them, and he is strict and critical — that is Saturn on Venus.
• One aspect of the house takes the setback; the others may be fine.
• Do not be biased by that one factor. Lagna lord and 5th lord together in lagna still make him learned, scholarly and recognised.
• 4th lord in lagna, a friend of the lagna lord: he is attached to his mother. (Lagna lord in the 4th, or 4th lord in lagna, usually shows that attachment.) The student confirms it.
• The grandfather's early death cannot be read here; he died before the native was born. What does show: the 9th from Libra has its lord in the 8th from it. The lord of any house in the 8th from that house means a weakness in the house.

D-12 Narayana Daśā — Three Uses

• The software's default seed for D-n is the n-th lord: the 12th for D-12, the 10th for D-10. For the father or the mother, change the starting sign in the options.

"There are various Narayana daśās. You can use the right one to see the right kind of effects."

Default D-12 ND — Relations with Parents: Pisces Daśā (2001 Jan – 2010 Jan)

D-12: Aquarius lagna. Moon and Rahu in Pisces in the 2nd. Jupiter in Cancer in the 6th, exalted and retrograde. Ketu in Virgo in the 8th. Venus and Saturn in Libra in the 9th.

• Pisces is Ubhayodaya → the sign gives in the middle 1/3 (2004 – 2007).
• Lord Jupiter is in Cancer, Pṛṣṭhodaya (1, 2, 4, 9, 10) → last 1/3 (2007 – 2010).
• Moon, Rahu and Ketu → first 1/3 (2001 – 2004), one year each, in the order Rahu, Ketu, Moon.

First 1/3 (2001 Jan – 2004 Jan)

• Rahu is a lagna lord of Aquarius: the person himself. "He behaves like a Rahu with parents." That is how they see him.
• Moon is the 6th lord of quarrels and is with Rahu: a destructive yoga. Even counting the Moon–Jupiter parivartana, Rahu is still in a bad combination.
• When Rahu gives, he quarrels with his parents and disobeys them.
• All three parts — Rahu, Ketu, Moon — are friction.
• The other lagna lord tells a different story. Saturn is with Venus in the 9th. Saturn and Rahu both act as lagna lord, whichever is stronger. By Saturn he is attached to his parents, more to the father; Venus is the 4th lord as well.

Middle 1/3 — Pisces itself (2004 Jan – 2007 Jan)

• Pisces is the 2nd house: resources. In D-12 these are parental resources — what the parents give that he can use in all his activities.
• A4, ārūḍha lagna and A3 bear on Pisces; the 8th and 11th houses aspect it. The published class notes add the 5th: Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius are the three signs with rāśi dṛṣṭi on Pisces.
• Because of A4 he grows closer to his mother; she has more influence and he listens to her more.
• He uses parental resources well. If the father says "use this money and study", he does.
• The friction came from Rahu, Moon and Ketu. That worst part is over.

Last 1/3 — Jupiter (2007 Jan – 2010 Jan)

• Jupiter is in the 6th from lagna. The class calls it bad. PVNR: in the house of quarrels, would you rather have someone aggressive or someone who is not?
• Jupiter in the 6th from lagna is not bad at all. The retrogression is of some concern, but it shows a more relaxed relationship with the parents, better even than Pisces's third.
• Jupiter in the house of quarrels makes him compromise with his parents.

"The worst is over and the best is after 2007. That is basically my message."

The 6th from Lagna and the 6th from Ārūḍha Lagna

The rules differ. From ārūḍha lagna the judgment is purely material.

From ārūḍha lagna (3rd or 6th)

• Exalted with retrogression is equivalent to debilitated. Had Aquarius been the ārūḍha lagna here, the exalted retrograde Jupiter in the 6th would read: he will not want to fight, will be forced to at the end, and will win in a moment.

From lagna

• Lagna is the true being. Here the question is the state of mind — peaceful or agitated — and the obstacles to be overcome.
• A malefic in the 6th from lagna: many obstacles, always agitated. Agitation may be the first step to material success; if the same planet is also well placed from AL, he overcomes them and wins. Example: Mars in the 6th from lagna and the 3rd from AL.
• A benefic in the 6th or 3rd from lagna: peaceful, relaxed, complacent, happy-go-lucky. No agitation.
• Many benefics in the upachayas of the rāśi chart: happy-go-lucky people.
• Many malefics in the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th: always agitated, always wanting to do something, always needing a goal.
• A malefic in the 6th from lagna in D-12: he fights the father over what to study, and wins. A benefic makes him compromise.

Father's Fortune — Narayana Daśā from the 9th of D-12

The 9th house, Libra, is taken as lagna. Libra is stronger than Aries, so the daśā starts from Libra.

Libra daśā (from birth)

• Saturn and Venus together in it: a good period. Śani–Śukra is also a tapasya yoga — the father worked very hard and got recognition for it.

Scorpio daśā (1990 – 2000)

• The 2nd house, accumulated money, with Mars and Sun. Sun gives professional success.
• Very auspicious for career and finances. His wealth grows; compare 1990 with 2000 and there is a big difference.
• Feedback: his career flourished in those years. There was a promotion; the date is not known.

Sagittarius daśā (2000 – 2008)

• The 3rd house: initiative and ventures. Sagittarius is Pṛṣṭhodaya and its lord Jupiter is in a Pṛṣṭhodaya sign. Order: aspecting planets, then the lord, then the sign.
• First 1/3 — Moon, Rahu, Ketu (aspecting from Pisces and Virgo): a lot of initiative, and worry. Moon is 10th lord, Rahu is 5th lord: worry over career or over a child. Ketu's aspect: the father's spirituality increases.
• Middle 1/3 — Jupiter (2002 – 2005): Jupiter in the 10th from Libra. Jupiterian karma — helping, counselling, teaching — and luck in career. He is also 3rd and 6th lord: changes at the workplace.
• Feedback: in 2002–2004 the father retired from his post and took a different job.

Rule: The 3rd and 6th lord, or the 8th lord, in the 10th house can show changes in career. Sudden changes can happen.

• The 3rd house with its lord in the 10th: a good daśā for a venture of his own, or joining somebody else's, for extra gains.

Father's health

• From Libra the 6th has Moon and Rahu: digestive or other health complaints.
• They give in Moon's or Rahu's daśā or in Pisces daśā. Pisces comes in 2017. Aquarius, from 2012, can give them too, because its lord is in the 6th.
• After 2012, and especially after 2017, the father must watch his health.

Limits and a cross-check

• Fine readings by antardaśā are not easy when reading a parent's fortune. Broad readings are.
• The same can be done in an annual chart: for the year of a father's promotion or house purchase, go to its Dvādaśāṁśa and take the 9th as lagna.

Avasthas

PVNR opens the software's avastha tables while judging the Sun's first quarter.

Basic Avasthas — by Age

• Three levels across five states: less, better, best, better, less.
• Only a guideline. A child may be a genius; a man of 90 may be agile in body and mind.

Alertness

• Parāśara's figures. Again a guideline — "take it with a pinch of salt". Someone may spoil everything when awake.

Śayanādi Avasthas

• More important than the basic ones. They show the state relating to activity.
• Nṛtyalipsā — desirous of dancing: excited, active, in a good mood, wanting to do something. In general a good state.

In This Chart

• Sun: Mṛta, dreaming, sad. "I think he is dreaming of being dead and he is sad because of that." No strength from the basic avasthas.
• Sun's Śayanādi avastha is Nṛtyalipsā: he wants to give what he promises.
• Weighed with sign and ucca bala: a friend's sign (good sthāna bala), no ucca bala. Overall okay, not strong.
