Healing and Remedy Identification

The chart is read from the rectified Cancer lagna.

Ishta Devata or Palana Devata

• The teacher asked for a remedy. Students said: Rahu is the Ātmakāraka, so surrender to Rahu's deity — Durga. Others said Ishta Devata.
• Some went to D-20 for the Ishta Devata. The teacher: no — the Navāṁśa. "These are standard rules."
• The Ishta Devata here is Mercury. (Rahu, the Ātmakāraka, is in Cancer navāṁśa; the 12th from it is Gemini, empty.)
• The teacher took a different route. The trouble is at the level of sustenance: the native consumes things and the Moon is afflicted.

"Ishta Devata is for moksha and all that. Palana Devata is very important for sustenance."

Palana Devata — 6th from Amātyakāraka in Navāṁśa

• Amātyakāraka = Mercury, in Leo navāṁśa.
• 6th from it = Capricorn, with Saturn, Sun and Ketu.
• Saturn is the strongest of the three — it is in its own house.
• A student asked what if no planet were there. The teacher: Capricorn is still ruled by Saturn.

Cross-check — the 4th House Heals

• Lagna shows good health. But who takes care of you when you are sick? Mother. The kāraka of mother is Moon. Moon is the kāraka of the 4th house.
• So the 4th house shows healing. The 4th from lagna — not from the 6th.
• The class notes put the rule plainly: for healing, pray to the deity of the 4th lord.
• 4th lord = Venus, in the 8th house, Aquarius — a sign of Saturn (or Rahu). The teacher took Saturn.
• He went to the rāśi chart to double-check that Saturn comes up there too. It does.

The Remedy — Kali

• Saturn is Kali among the Dasa Mahavidyas. The teacher's advice: pray to Kali.
• Sanjay Rath's paper on the Dasa Mahavidyas gives rules for when worship of the Divine Mothers helps in a chart.
• Venus is in the 4th from the Ātmakāraka in Navāṁśa (Rahu in Cancer, Venus in Libra).

"As per Sanjay, it shows that the person is basically already blessed by the Divine Mother. We just have to pray to her."

• You need not give a mantra unless the person asks. Not everybody can give one. Point to the standard texts.

Forms of Worship

• Simple worship: Bhadrakali is the auspicious form. Pray "Mother, please take care of me." No rules to follow.
• Tantric worship: midnight, set colours of cloth, set fruits and flowers, a ritual. Smasana Kali is worshipped in the cremation ground at midnight, before a fire, with a skull in hand. For this, initiation from a qualified guru is essential.

Can He Come Out of It?

• Very difficult. It is an addiction. Someone else has to do something for him.
• A doctor on the list said the first step is for the man to admit he is an alcoholic. The teacher: that is the second step. First the family must recognise it and act.
• Put Kali's picture in the house. Keep the Kali mantra playing in the background. The seeds are planted in his mind.
• Ask him to come to the Kali temple. Ask him to sit and chant the mantra 27 or 108 times with you. He will agree to that. He will not agree to "admit you are an alcoholic". That is the starting step.

Daśā Outlook

• Rahu daśā is running. Rahu afflicts the 5th house and aspects the 6th.
• Rahu–Venus from 2007: Venus is the 4th lord, and the 4th lord shows healing. Venus can be problematic, but to a large extent it is good.
• Rahu–Sun follows and is better. Sun is conjoined with Venus in the rāśi chart and gives the results of Venus. Sun is also with Saturn in Navāṁśa, part of the combination in the 6th from Amātyakāraka. Prayer to Kali in Sun antardaśā will be very helpful.
• The period of the 5th lord can also help.

"No planet is totally bad and the person is not destroyed. Very rare condition."

The 10 Divine Mothers

"Just like you have the Dasa Avatara of Vishnu — you take the 9 planets and the lagna and map it to the Dasa Avatara of Vishnu — similarly, you take the 9 planets and lagna and map it to the 10 forms of the Divine Mother."

The teacher asked the class to name the Mahavidyas. One student got three: Kali, Kamalatmika, Chinnamasta. The mapping given in class:

• The different names are forms for different purposes. They are the same deity.
• Ekajata: one jaṭā, one lock of hair.
• Smasana: the cremation ground.
• The Dasa Mahavidyas are female forms only.

Other Associations Mentioned

• Rahu: Durga in the feminine form, Balaji in the masculine.
• Saturn: the Kurma avatāra among the ten of Vishnu, Kali among the Mahavidyas, and Satya Narayana.

Tantra

• Very little is known about the Mahavidyas. The tantrics who know are doing their japa and sādhanā in the jungles.
• Tantra has a bad name in the West because it has been equated with sex.
• Most descriptions on the web are nonsense. There are very few authentic texts.
