BPHS Chapter 24 — 7th Lord in the Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth Houses

7th Lord in 10th House (Verse 82)

Sanskrit results:

• Nāsya jāyā vaśānugā — his wife is not under his control
• Svayaṁ dharma-rataḥ — he himself is very dharmic, pious
• Dhana-putrādi-saṁyutaḥ — endowed with wealth, sons and so on

Why the results make sense:

Wife out of his control:

• From the 7th house as lagna, the lagna lord is in the 4th house of sukha and aspects the 10th.
• Lagna lord in the 4th: she pursues her own happiness. Aspect on the 10th: she is career-minded.
• Because she cares about her happiness and her career, there is a good chance she neglects the husband.
• From the 3rd house (wife's character) the planet is the 5th lord in the 8th. In the 8th-house verse the 5th lord in the 6th from the 3rd gave bad character. Here a question on character is also possible, but Parashara does not give it. Being out of the husband's control does not by itself mean bad character.

"Lagna lord in the 4th house, she pursues her happiness. And secondly, he aspects the 10th house, so she may be career-minded."

Very dharmic:

• A quadrant lord in the 10th has Argala on the 9th, a trine.
• From the 9th house as lagna he is the 11th lord — the lord of fulfilling dharma — placed in the 2nd, the resource of dharma.

Wealthy:

• For the 2nd house the Upachayas (3rd, 6th, 10th, 11th from it) matter more than for other houses, because money is accumulated.
• From the 2nd house the 7th lord is the 6th lord, an Upachaya lord, in the 9th house of fortune. Fortune for the bank balance.

"Money is something you accumulate. It's not something that you get once and then you are done."

Children:

• A student objects: the planet is in the 6th from the 5th, so he expected the opposite result.
• From the 5th house the 7th lord is the 3rd lord in the 6th. From any house, 3rd lord in 6th is good: one Upachaya lord in another Upachaya shows accumulation. It is a Viparita Raja Yoga — some trouble in the beginning, Raja Yoga in the end. It is not like 5th lord in 6th, or 3rd lord in 7th or 10th.
• So there may be trouble in getting children at first; once they come, things go smoothly and he ends up with many.
• The same reading holds for the other 5th-house matters: intelligence, scholarship, judgment and mantra śakti also grow.

7th Lord in 11th House (Verse 83)

Sanskrit results:

• Dārair artha-samāgamaḥ — money comes with marriage; he becomes wealthy after marriage
• Putrādi-sukham alpam — happiness from children is limited
• Kanyā-prajo bhavet — he will have daughters

Why the results make sense:

Wealth after marriage:

• The 7th lord of marriage is in the 11th house of profits.
• From the 11th house as lagna, the 7th lord is the 9th lord in lagna. The lord of fortune in lagna: the lagna flourishes. He is a profitable person in general, and marriage in particular brings profit.
• A student asks whether his business also flourishes. The teacher: 7th lord in 11th is more conducive to a businessman.

Little happiness from children:

• From the 5th house, the 3rd lord is in the 7th. The lord of a bad house in a quadrant is not well placed. In the previous verse the 3rd lord was in the 6th and the result was good; here it is not.
• A Kama Trikona lord in another Kama Trikona: much desire and initiative relating to children. If you have to take a lot of initiative and interact a lot on account of your children — in getting them or in the relation with them — there is a problem there.

Daughters:

• The teacher: "I am not 100% sure how you can say the gender of children based on the houses occupied."
• One angle: some people take the 9th house for daughters (he has no view of his own on that). From the 9th, the 7th lord is the 11th lord in the 3rd — some gain of daughters.
• A student's angle, which he accepts as sensible: with the 3rd lord in the 7th from the 5th, the native has to meet and deal with many people on account of the child, as one does to get a daughter married.
• "There may be some more logic, but I am not aware of it."

7th Lord in 12th House (Verse 84)

Sanskrit results:

• Daridraḥ — poor
• Kṛpaṇaḥ — miserly
• Bhāryā vyaya-śīlā — the wife spends a lot
• Vastrājīvī — his livelihood is from cloth; a cloth merchant

Why the results make sense:

Poor:

• The 7th lord of business is in the 12th house of losses. He suffers big losses in business that are hard to recover from.
• This is not the combination of a man born poor who lives poor with modest needs. It is a man who had money, put it into business, gambled and lost it.
• From the 2nd house the planet is the 6th lord in the 11th — one Upachaya lord in another. He can accumulate a lot of wealth. Parashara does not mention it; what he says is that despite this the business losses come.

Miserly:

• From the 12th house of giving, the 7th lord is the 8th lord in lagna. That is a combination for ill health and weakness. The giver inside him is frail and unhealthy.
• And from the 2nd house he is an Upachaya lord in an Upachaya: he wants to increase his money, not part with it.

Wife a spendthrift:

• The 7th lord, who shows the wife, is in the 12th house of expenses. The wife causes expenditure.
• From the 7th house as lagna, the lagna lord is in the 6th and aspects the 12th. She is interested in spending.

Sells cloth:

• The teacher: "I am not at all sure how you can say you will sell this or that from the house occupied."
• What can be said: from the 7th house of business, the lagna lord is in the 6th. He sells 6th-house things. The 6th is a Dusthana, not the 9th or another good house, so he sells small things, not big articles — "a $20 t-shirt, a $10 shirt", not palaces.
• By the same method the 7th lord in the 8th house is in the 2nd from the 7th: he may sell food or other 2nd-house articles.
• Cloth is one possibility. How to arrive at cloth itself, he does not know.
