D4 Chaturthamsa — Residence & Bhagya, Guru-Chandala Yoga in D4 Context

D4 (Chaturthamsa) as the chart of residence and fortune: 4H of D4 = home ownership; 9H of D4 = bhagya (fortune); 12H = foreign land. How to see foreign settlement from D4: malefics in 12H of D4 + Rahu/foreign sign indicators. Guru-Chandala Yoga in D4: Jupiter + Rahu in same sign of D4 = disrupted fortune from residential/property perspective — can indicate unconventional living circumstances or property problems. A9 (Bhagya Pada) = the Arudha of the 9th house = tangible fortune in the physical world. How A9 in various houses determines the visible form of luck.

"D-4 is the chart of your residence and your fortune. The 9th house of D-4 is your bhagya — your tangible luck made visible."

— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao

D-4 (Chaturthamsa) — The Chart of Residence and Bhagya

What D-4 Shows

  • D-4 = Chaturthamsa = the divisional chart of the 4th house (residence, fortune, bhagya)
  • Parashara calls it the chart of bhagya — fortune, good luck, general prosperity
  • In practice, it is used as the chart for physical residence — where you live, changes in residence, immigration, foreign settlement
  • 4th house = intangible sukha (contentment); D-4 = the tangible manifestation of where one lives

Which Dasha to Use for D-4

  • If the lagna is in Vargottama (same sign in D1 and D9 navamsha), use Satabdika dasha (also called Shashtihaini dasha)
  • If no special condition applies → default Vimshottari
  • Kiran's chart: Lagna in Virgo in both Rasi and Navamsha → Vargottama → Satabdika dasha for D-4 analysis

Important Houses for Foreign Travel/Settlement

  • 9th house = general fortune; prosperity; higher travel
  • 12th house = settling in a far-away place; foreign land
  • 7th house (badhakasthana) = for fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius), the 11th is badhaka; for movable signs it's the 7th; for dual signs it's the 9th — the badhaka lord can DRIVE one away from the homeland
  • Badhakesha = the planet that drives you away from your natural home
  • Also: 3rd house = travels and short journeys; watery signs = crossing oceans (classical reference)

Key Planets for Going Abroad

  • Rahu = primary karaka for going to a far-away place and settling there permanently
  • Any planet connected to Rahu through yoga, lordship, or aspect gets the quality of giving foreign travel
  • 9th and 12th lords = very important; if they are in watery signs, classical texts suggest ocean-crossing

The Guru-Chandala Yoga in D-4 Context

General Rule

Jupiter + Rahu conjunction = Guru-Chandala Yoga = bad yoga in general

  • Jupiter = dharma, Rahu = adharma; when they meet, they clash, producing problematic results
  • Bad for matters of dharma, spiritual growth, wisdom

Exception in D-4 (and Non-Dharmic Charts)

When Jupiter (as badhakesha) and Rahu (as 9th lord, karaka for foreign) are together in the 3rd house of D-4:

  • "When you are talking about leaving your country, going to a faraway place, they don't have such hang-ups. It is not a matter of dharma anyway."
  • In D-4 (chart of bhagya/residence), dharma is not the subject — foreign travel is purely a matter of fortune
  • So Jupiter and Rahu cooperate and exchange results freely without the usual Guru-Chandala friction
  • Jupiter gives Rahu's results (foreign travel), Rahu gives Jupiter's results (expansive movement)

Rule: Guru-Chandala yoga applies fully in Rasi, Navamsa, Dasamsa — charts where dharma is at stake. In D-4 (or other specific divisional charts where the subject matter is not dharma), the yoga's negative effect is neutralized for that specific subject.

A9 (Bhagya Pada) — The Tangible Fortune

A9 vs. 9th House

  • 9th house = intangible fortune, dharma, general prosperity (what you feel in your heart)
  • A9 = Arudha of the 9th house = tangible manifestation of fortune — the actual concrete lucky breaks and fortunate events that people around you can SEE

Why A9 for Green Card?

Getting a green card (permanent residence) is:

  • NOT just about feeling fortunate → that would be 9th house
  • NOT just a career advancement → not primarily A10
  • A green card is a tangible sign of fortune — when an immigrant gets permanent residence in a wealthy country, the entire home community in India sees it as a great tangible sign of luck and prosperity
  • Therefore: A9 is the right pada to examine for green card

Identifying Who Gives the Green Card

Multiple factors must align — A9 alone is not enough:

  1. A9 lord — planet whose dasha/antardasha is running
  2. 9th lord — planet owning the 9th house (karaka for fortune)
  3. 12th lord — planet connected to settling abroad
  4. Badhakesha — planet driving away from homeland
  5. Rahu — karaka for going to faraway place
  6. Watery sign placement — classical indicator of ocean crossing

For any planet to "give" green card, it should have multiple of these connections. Having argala on A9 AND graha drishti on A9 = very strong indicator.

Malefic in 4th House Rule

A malefic in the 4th house of D-4 can give a home in a faraway land:

  • 4th house = home, residence
  • Malefic = drive to leave, uproot, move
  • Combined: forced to make one's home elsewhere (away from birthplace)
  • Example: Saturn in 4th house (malefic, 9th lord) = pursuing fortune leads to residence far from home
