Arudha Padas Deep Reading, Parivartana Yoga Rules & Mahapurusha Triggers
Arudha padas deep reading principles: how to interpret the image of any house area. A9 (Bhagya Pada) in different houses determines the visible form of fortune — demonstrated with the Mumbai example chart. Transits on Arudha padas: when a malefic transits over AL, the native's image takes a hit publicly; when a benefic transits, image improves. Parivartana Yoga rules: when is it a Raj Yoga and when is it a Duryoga? Mahapurusha Yoga triggers and duration: which dasha activates the Mahapurusha and how long it lasts.
"When a malefic transits over Arudha Lagna, the native's public image suffers. When a benefic transits, the image improves — even if nothing in the real life has changed."
— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao

Arudha Padas — Deep Reading Principles (Q3)
What Each House/Arudha Shows
| Layer | Shows |
|---|---|
| House (e.g., 9th house) | Whether that quality is truly present (real fortune, real spirituality, etc.) |
| Arudha of house (e.g., A9) | The tangible, visible, world-perceived manifestation of that quality |
Key scenario: 9th house weak but A9 very strong (exalted planet, in trine from lagna) → Person is not truly fortunate, but the world thinks they are very wealthy/lucky. This disconnect shows when a big image is not backed by substance.
How to Fully Analyze an Arudha Pada — 3 Steps
- House from Lagna: Which house does the Arudha fall in? This shows the nature of the tangible manifestation. Example: A9 in 12th = fortune related to giving up, foreign country, spirituality, or generosity
- Rasi Drishti aspects: Which signs are casting Rasi Drishti on the Arudha? Planets in those signs COLOR the manifestation of fortune. These are permanent influences.
- Lord of the Arudha: Where is the Arudha's lord placed? What yogas does it participate in? This is the "driver" of that Arudha's image.
— PVNR"If you want to see the fortune of the person, look at 9th house strength. If that fortune exists and you want to see how the world sees it — then go to A9. Three things: the house A9 is in, the aspects on it (Rasi Drishti), and its lord's placement."
Example Chart: Jan 14, 1964, Mumbai, 9:27 PM IST
Used to demonstrate A9 analysis:
- 9th lord: Mars (yogakaraka), exalted in 6th house, combust with Sun
- Exaltation + combustion: PVNR's teaching — Mars combust near Sun is NOT a problem because "Sun and Mars are both Kshatriyas." Fire next to fire becomes stronger, not weaker. Only Venus, Moon, Mercury etc. lose when combust. Mars becomes even more like Sun when combust — behaves as if it were Sun.
- Combined judgment: Exalted Mars as 9L = great fortune. In 6th = fortune through struggle, obstacles; the person fights to maintain fortune but Mars gives energy to do so.
- A9 in Cancer (12th from Lagna): Fortune through giving up, foreign country, spiritual generosity
- Rasi Drishti on Cancer: Taurus, Aquarius, Scorpio → Venus (in Aquarius) aspects A9
- Venus's role: Venus is lord of UL (Upapada/12th Arudha) AND is in the 7th house = karaka of marriage. Venus aspecting A9 = fortune through marriage / becoming fortunate after marriage
- A9 lord (Moon) in 5th house with Mercury and Ketu
- Mercury = AL lord (lord of Arudha Lagna). AL lord + A9 lord together = Arudha-based Raj Yoga — world sees this person as very fortunate/wealthy
- But Ketu is present = "Ketu will say, what Raj Yoga? This is all Maya." Ketu neutralizes Maya-based yoga; had it been just Mercury + Moon, it would be a pure auspicious combination
Arudha-Based Raj Yoga
- When lord of AL and lord of A9 are together: World perceives you as a very fortunate person → Perception-level Raj Yoga
- More important than real Raj Yoga for: politicians, celebrities, public leaders
- Real Raj Yoga (lagna lord + 9th lord together) is for inner reality
- For material success and public standing, Arudha-based combinations matter more
Transits on Arudha Padas (Q4)
Transits absolutely matter to Arudha Lagna — the natal chart gives the baseline, but transits modify it continuously.
Transit Rules from Arudha Lagna (AL)
| Transit Position from AL | Effect |
|---|---|
| Saturn transiting AL | Very bad — depresses, harms, runs down the image; diseases and unhappiness |
| Jupiter in Kendra from AL | Very good — protects and promotes image |
| Jupiter in Trine from AL | Inauspicious — gives a "reality check"; if image was bloated, Jupiter deflates it; removes veil of ignorance |
| Rahu/Ketu in Trine from AL | Very auspicious — they love Maya; they bless the image happily |
| Rahu/Ketu in Kendra from AL | Not ideal for them — they prefer trines for image matters |
The Key Paradox — Jupiter vs. Rahu/Ketu for Arudha:
- Jupiter in Kendra from AL = protects image (he is told to "give effort for Maya" and he does it)
- Jupiter in Trine from AL = "blesses" image by saying: "This is all Maya, let me show you reality" → reduces bloat
- Rahu/Ketu in Trine from AL = fully blesses Maya and builds image enthusiastically
- Opposite applies in natal chart placements — these rules are transit-specific
— PVNR"Rahu and Ketu are the opposite of Jupiter. Jupiter is happy with trines from Lagna, but Rahu and Ketu love trines from Arudha Lagna. When Rahu transits in trine from your Arudha Lagna, it is a great blessing for image and status."
Navamsa Moon for Transits
- Most people watch Saturn's Sade Sati (7.5 years) from Rasi Moon
- But some classics indicate Navamsa Moon is equally or more important
- Saturn transiting 12th from Navamsa Moon = intense inner affliction (even if Rasi Moon is unaffected)
- Example: If Navamsa Moon is in Sagittarius, Saturn currently in Cancer = 8th house from Navamsa Moon = mental restlessness
Parivartana Yoga — When Is It Good or Bad? (Q5)
The Principle
Parivartana (mutual exchange) is always a yoga, but whether it's auspicious or inauspicious depends on:
- Friendship between the planets: Friendly planets exchange naturally and enrich both houses; inimical planets don't really cooperate
- Houses involved: Houses of compatible nature produce good exchange; incompatible houses produce conflict
Rules
| Exchange Between | Result |
|---|---|
| Friendly planets, compatible houses | Good yoga — enrichment of both houses |
| Inimical planets (Sun-Rahu, Mars-Rahu) | No real exchange — they don't cooperate |
| 9th lord + 8th lord | Very bad (Duryoga) — fortune and uncertainty/obstacles don't gel |
| 9th lord + 7th lord | Good yoga |
| 3rd lord + 7th lord | Good — same Kama Trikona; initiative and desire enrich each other |
| Two lords in the same trikona | Generally good for that trikona |
Same-Trikona Exchanges
If two of the three lords in a trikona exchange:
- Makes that trikona more prominent
- Good regardless of whether Dharma, Artha, Kama, or Moksha trikona
- "Both are in the same family, both know each other, they will take care of each other"
Multiple Conjunctions + Parivartana
If two planets are BOTH in a yoga (conjunct) AND in parivartana (exchanging houses), the order of result-giving is complex:
- No clear classical rule for which takes precedence
- PVNR: "Go by instincts or by already-known events"
Mahapurusha Yoga — Triggers and Duration
Q: Does Mahapurusha Yoga work throughout life or only in certain periods?
Answer
- Mahapurusha yoga does NOT activate at birth — a trigger is needed
- Trigger: A dasha, antardasha, OR transit that activates the yoga
- Once triggered: It's a lifelong result — you remain a Maha Purusha for the rest of life
- Exception: Very heavy afflictions CAN collapse the yoga (imprisonment, major disgrace, etc.)
