D30 — Moon Affliction and Remedies (Continued from Lesson 70)

An open class with no agenda. A student brings the chart of a girl whose mind is disturbed. No birth data is read out.

Affliction of Moon in D30 — Mental Problems

• Moon afflicted by Saturn, Rahu or Ketu in D30 = vulnerability of the mind. Check D6 too, but for mental problems D30 is the chart.
• Either the person already has the problem or may develop it when the daśā comes. "D30 is the chart that shows the susceptibilities of the person, where the person is vulnerable."
• The sign Moon occupies shows the kind of weakness (from last class): Aries gives anger, Scorpio gives stubbornness.
• How to tell them: find out whether there is already a problem. If there is not, do not tell the person a problem will come. Give precautions and remedies. If a parent or spouse asks, you can indicate that there may be a problem of mental stability later.

This Chart — Moon with Saturn in Scorpio, 12th House of D30

• D30 lagna is Sagittarius. Moon, the 8th lord, is in the 12th house in Scorpio (debilitated) with Saturn. Moon is afflicted by Saturn in D6 also.
• In a normal chart the 8th lord in the 12th would be a Viparīta Rāja Yoga. Not here.

"In D6 and D30, there is no Viparīta Rāja Yoga. When it comes to health, there isn't anything called Viparīta Rāja Yoga. The 8th lord wherever he is, the 12th lord wherever he is, the 6th lord wherever he is, they are meant only to give you suffering."

Which Deity

The devatā has to correspond to Moon and Saturn.

• Exalted planet → male deity. Debilitated planet → female deity. Moon is debilitated, so the Mother: Moon is Parvati.
• Moon is with Saturn → Kali.
• Moon is in Scorpio, a martial sign → could be Chandi.
• The main effect here is Saturn's affliction of Moon, so Kali is the choice.
• Worship directed at Moon, or at the planet afflicting Moon, lessens the problem.

What the Parents Do

• A small child cannot pray to Kali. Put a picture or idol of Kali in the house and let an elder pray.
• The parent who is more religiously inclined reads the 7th chapter of Durga Saptashati every day — the chapter in which Kali kills Chanda and Munda. It is short, about 30 verses. (The teacher asks the class to check that the 7th is the right chapter.)
• Keep a small picture of Kali in front. Before and after the reading, think of the daughter and say — not necessarily in Sanskrit — that it is being done for her good.

Kali — Forms and Philosophy

Kali as Saturn

• Kali stands for complete detachment. Among the planets she has the energy of Saturn.
• Saturn says: "Do you really think you need it? You don't need it. Just get over it." Deprive a man of a thing for a couple of weeks and he gets used to being without it. "Cut off everything, cut off everything, then you are free."
• Mahakala and Mahakali are Shiva and Parvati with Saturn's energy.
• Mahakali holds the Mahavidya. She cuts every bond — khaṇḍa, muṇḍa, cut, cut. No attachment to anything, no dependence on anything: that is liberation. That is Kali's way.

Two Ways to Pray to Kali

"If you are just praying to Kali for a materialistic purpose, you don't really have to do it at midnight. You can do it anytime."

• To a goddess, being asked to fix a health problem is a small thing. Her sense of time is not ours: one day of Indra is one year of ours, and some ṛṣis are outside Mahakala's domain altogether. Five years of your suffering is not a microsecond to her. To you it is everything.
• So when you ask for relief you are praying to a smaller aṁśa of Kali, not the full Mahavidya.
• Kali has many forms — Chaitanya Kali, Bhadra Kali, and others. One is Kalikamba, Mother Kali. She sees that this person wants mokṣa in the long run but is troubled now, and takes care of it. The teacher mentions a Kalikamba temple in India where people ask for anything and many receive it.

"Don't worship Kali using one of the Mahavidya mantras. Those mantras are only for getting the understanding of Self, only for getting Self-realization."

The Imagery

• Black, fearsome, tongue out, a garland of skulls, hands hanging at the waist. All of it is symbolic.
• A sādhaka who wants to be done with material life is not frightened by it.
• "If you are put off by that imagery, don't use that imagery. It's not the only way Kali can be represented."

Sun Afflicted by Rahu — Weak Constitution

A second student's chart, again of a child, without birth data. Pisces lagna. Sun and Rahu are in lagna (Sun about 5°, Rahu 10°). Lagna lord Jupiter is in the 8th house, Libra. Moon is in the 9th in Anuradha.

Lagna Lord in the 8th

• Lagna is your core existence. The lagna lord is the intelligence behind that existence.
• Lagna lord in a house of struggle = you are always engaged in hard work. It is not a verdict of bad health. "He is always to give you good health. But he does it by making you work hard."

Sun with Rahu in Lagna

• Sun is the 6th lord, in lagna, afflicted by his enemy Rahu, five degrees apart. Health is weak. It may be a stomach condition, but some health problem cannot be avoided.
• Affliction of Sun shows a weak constitution.
• When it happens in lagna, which is your very being, the problem can come at a young age, when the daśā comes.

Remedy — Jupiter, Dakshinamurti

The student had proposed several remedies. The teacher picks Dakshinamurti as the most appropriate.

• When Sun and Rahu are together in a sensitive house — in lagna, in an important house, or aspecting lagna — Dakshinamurti is recommended. It channels the energy.
• Reasons to pray to Jupiter in this chart:
  1. Jupiter is the lagna lord, the one who wants to protect health.
  2. Jupiter sits in the rogapada (A6). The 6th lord Sun is in the 8th from the 6th house, so A6 falls in Libra. The protector of health is in the arudha that shows manifestation of disease.
  3. "When Sun and Rahu are together, always it is Jupiter who rescues Sun."
• Pray to Bṛhaspati himself, or to one of the great teachers — Vyasa, Dakshinamurti, Dattatreya, Sai Baba.
• Keep a picture of Dakshinamurti in the child's room. The teacher expects the child to turn to Shiva as guru when grown.

The Good in the Chart

• 5th lord Moon is in the 9th and the 9th lord Mars aspects it. The 5th and 9th lords aspect each other: a strong sense of dharma.

Timing

• The present daśā is not the worst one. Check the nakṣatra daśā: Sun, Rahu or Ketu daśā is when the trouble shows.

Varesha (Wara Lord) and Health

• Vāreśa = lord of the weekday of birth. He is the one who is supposed to take care of the native.
• In the Pisces-lagna chart above, Sun is the Vāreśa and also the 6th lord. "He is the one who is supposed to take care of him, but he himself is giving the problem."
• In such a case you pray to him and he takes you out of the problem.
• Here that is not enough: the Vāreśa is afflicted by Rahu and very weak. So the prayer goes to Jupiter, who rescues Sun.

Example chart

Configuration: Mars 2°48', Rahu 3°42', Jupiter 7°56', Moon 10°19' and Saturn 28°58' all in Leo, the 5th house. Mercury and Ketu in Aquarius. Sun in Pisces.

Venus: in the class software Venus is at the very end of Aries, in lagna. The site's ayanāṁśa puts it a few arc-minutes later, at 0°01' Taurus. Read Venus in Aries to follow the class — it changes Venus's sign in D9, D12 and D20.

The chart was brought by a student for another reason. The teacher uses it for the "tricky" case of many planets in one house. Such charts carry every kind of yoga, good and bad. The students list Gajakesari, Guru-Mangala, Chandra-Mangala and Guru-Chandala yogas. Mars, Jupiter and Saturn are retrograde: every planet that can be retrograde is.

Dwisapthathi Sama Dasa

• The 7th lord Venus is in lagna. So the nakṣatra daśā to use is Dvisaptati Sama Daśā.
• "After a long time we are getting an example" of this daśā.

Exchange of Results — Many Planets in One Sign

Question: in Mars daśā, whose results does Mars give?

Method:

1. Forget who the planets are. Arrange them in order of beneficence.
2. The first and the last exchange results.
3. The second and the second-last exchange results.
4. The one in the middle gives his own.

For this chart:

• Jupiter is the most benefic, retrograde or not.
• Moon is next. Birth is on Śukla Trayodaśī, two days before full Moon, so Moon is a benefic.
• Then Mars, then Saturn, then Rahu. Mars is more benefic than Saturn, Saturn more than Rahu.
• Order: Jupiter → Moon → Mars → Saturn → Rahu.
• Jupiter and Rahu should exchange. They will not. "Jupiter will say, you want me to give your result? I will give my result." They are also about four degrees apart, a close affliction of Jupiter. Both give their own results.
• Moon and Saturn exchange. Moon daśā gives Saturn's results. Saturn daśā gives Moon's results.
• Mars, in the middle, gives his own.
• Mercury and Ketu are together in Aquarius. Mercury gives Ketu's results.
• Venus gives his own.

The exchange belongs to the rāśi chart. In the divisional charts these planets are no longer together, so apply the normal rules there.
