A Student's Job Prediction — Confirmed

Before the chart, a student reports that the prediction the class made for him came right.

• He was advised to use his network. He did, and got a call at once.
• First interview on Monday 6 February, second interview on Friday 10 February. The usual process takes one or two months; his finished in about a week.
• He points out that the main steps fell on Fridays — his is a Venus chart.
• His old company gave him notice on 24 February. He joined the new job in March.

"Thank you very much for the correct prediction." — "Not me, the class. Congratulations, all the best for your new job."

Example Chart — Mental Illness After Childbirth

Situation

• A woman living abroad. Her second child was born in July 2005.
• From September 2005 her mind became unstable. She speaks incoherently, says random things from different books, and seems to be in a mental vacuum.
• At the time of the class she is in hospital. The family asks what is in store.

The Rashi Chart

• Aries lagna. Navamsa lagna Scorpio.
• Lagna: Moon (7° Aries), Ketu (18°), Jupiter (20°48′).
• 2nd house (Taurus): Sun, Mercury, Venus.
• 4th house (Cancer): Mars debilitated, with Saturn.
• 7th house (Libra): Rahu.
• Birth on a Tuesday, Krishna Trayodashi, Moon in Ashwini (nakshatra lord Ketu).

The Student's Reading

• The lagna looks reasonably accurate.
• The 4th house is badly afflicted: lagna lord Mars is debilitated there with Saturn. The 4th lord Moon is in lagna with Ketu.
• He wanted to strengthen the vāra lord (Mars — a Tuesday birth), who is also lagna lord, with a Hanuman mantra.

The teacher accepts the basic analysis:

• "Always lagna lord — he is the one who rescues you from any problem. If you have any health problem, it is lagna lord who is the key."
• Here he is debilitated in the sukha sthāna and sits with the bādhakeśa Saturn. (For Aries, a movable lagna, the bādhaka sthāna is the 11th, Aquarius; its lords are Saturn and Rahu.)
• A Mars–Saturn combination is not pleasant.
• The general rule: affliction to the 4th lord, or malefics in the 4th house, can give mental problems. So can affliction to Moon.

Chandra Lagna

The complaint is mental, so Chandra lagna matters most. Moon is the mind.

• Chandra lagna is weak: its lord Mars is debilitated, and Ketu — the 8th lord from it — sits on it.
• Jupiter's presence there is the blessing. He is the 9th lord, the lord of protection, from lagna and from Moon alike (both are Aries). He protects body and mind.
• Because Moon is afflicted by Ketu, the 8th lord, the problem can be hard to diagnose.

"If 8th lord or Ketu are involved, usually the problems are difficult to diagnose. These are strange problems, weird problems."

Is Moon a Functional Benefic or Malefic?

The rule the teacher restates:

• A trine lord is always a functional benefic.
• A quadrant lord is never good. A natural malefic owning a quadrant becomes neutral. A natural benefic owning a quadrant becomes malefic.
• Jupiter and Venus are natural benefics. Saturn, Mars, Rahu, Ketu and Sun are natural malefics. These are fixed.
• Mercury changes with the company he keeps. Moon changes with the paksha.

Applied here:

• The birth is on Krishna Trayodashi. Moon is waning and close to Amavasya — almost fully a natural malefic.
• A natural malefic owning a quadrant (the 4th) is functionally neutral.
• "Had Moon been a Shukla paksha Moon, he would have been a functional malefic here, but he is a functionally neutral planet here."

Yogas Moon Takes Part In

• Gajakesari yoga — Moon conjoined with Jupiter.
• Raja yoga — Moon is 4th lord, Jupiter is 9th lord; a quadrant lord and a trine lord together.
• Chandra-Mangala yoga — through the Moon–Mars parivartana (Moon in Aries, Mars in Cancer).
• A second raja yoga — the same parivartana is an exchange between the lagna lord and the 4th lord.

So Moon gives one raja yoga with Jupiter, one with Mars, and Chandra-Mangala and Gajakesari besides.

Is There a Spiritual Side?

• Jupiter and Ketu in lagna is an auspicious combination for spirituality. There is latent spirituality in the person.
• The teacher asks whether a new phase of life is starting and people are mistaking it for madness. To judge that one would look at the Navamsa and other divisional charts.
• Because the complaint is a mental problem, he sets that aside and reads the chart from the material side first.

Which Daśā — and the Moon–Mars Parivartana

Choosing the Daśā

The teacher runs through the conditional daśās first:

• Lagna is Aries in Rashi and Scorpio in Navamsa — not vargottama. Śatābdika daśā does not apply.
• Sun is not in lagna. Ṣaṣṭihāyanī daśā does not apply.
• Lagna lord is not in the 7th, nor the 7th lord in lagna. Dvisaptati-sama daśā does not apply.
• The 10th lord is not in the 10th. Chaturaśīti-sama daśā does not apply.

So Vimshottari is used.

Sun Daśā and Moon Daśā

• Sun daśā ran until October 2005. Sun shows nothing untoward: 5th lord in the 2nd with Mercury (3rd and 6th lord) and Venus (2nd lord). Good speech; an intelligent person.
• Moon daśā began about 1 October 2005. The illness began in September. With a small error in birth time the two coincide.
• "So some affliction of Moon is the reason for all this."

When Does a Parivartana Take Effect?

A student asks whether Moon will give his own results or those of Mars, since they exchange signs.

• No thumb rule is given anywhere. The teacher's working guideline: the exchange is triggered when the antardaśā of the other planet comes.
• Until then — Moon daśā, Moon antardaśā, up to about August 2006 — Moon acts as Moon in Aries.
• When Mars antardaśā starts, the results at first are those of Moon mahādaśā, Mars antardaśā, with Moon in Aries and Mars in Cancer.
• Then a slow transition. After it, the period behaves as Mars mahādaśā, Moon antardaśā — Mars as though in Aries, Moon as though in Cancer.
• The rest of the mahādaśā stays that way. Rahu antardaśā (February 2007 – August 2008) will run as Rahu antardaśā in Mars mahādaśā.
• This applies to the Rashi chart. In a divisional chart where the two do not exchange, each gives his own results.

D30 (Trimshamsa) — Subconscious Weakness

Why D30

• 30 less multiples of 12 leaves 6. D30 throws light on 6th-house matters: enemies, suffering.
• Divisional charts numbered 1–12 work at the physical level, 13–24 at the conscious (mental) level, 25–36 at the subconscious level. D30 is in the third group.
• So D30 shows the subconscious enemies — the pāpa puruṣa hidden within. Anger, jealousy and the other ṣaḍ-ripus come without being planned. "You don't decide, okay, today I will be jealous of this person."
• It also shows what you pay for those weaknesses.

"According to Ayurveda, any sickness that you experience is because of the latent subconscious evil within you."

• For physical health D30 may be considered. For mental suffering it must be.

Five Pairs of Signs, Five Tattvas

In Trimshamsa no planet can occupy Cancer or Leo. The other ten signs form five pairs, one per tattva.

• The sign a planet occupies in D30 shows which tattva is disturbed in the part of you that planet stands for.
• Sun is the soul, Moon the mind, Mars initiative and energy, Mercury adaptability and learning. Each planet is one layer, and each layer carries its own weakness.
• The tattvas are states of existence, not physical water or ground.
• Some do not count ākāśa as a tattva and stop at four. What is accepted is that the chakras up to Viśuddhi correspond to the tattvas; above that one is beyond the elements.

Moon in D30 — What the Mind Suffers

• Saturn's sign (Capricorn, Aquarius) — air. The mind wanders. One thought this moment, a different one the next. Unstable.
• Mars's sign (Aries, Scorpio) — fire. Irritability and latent anger. Disturb the person and he flares up.
• Mercury's sign (Gemini, Virgo) — earth. Attachment. Holding on to what should be let go — a thing, a person, an unfulfilled relationship.

The teacher does not work out the Venus and Jupiter pairs in this class.

Earth, Attachment and Mūlādhāra

• You cannot hold a thing with air, ether or fire. You hold it with something solid. Earth is solidity.
• "This is mine" — this body, this shirt, this computer — is solidity in thought. That is why Mercury is the planet of attachment.
• Mūlādhāra governs attachment. While any attachment remains, kuṇḍalinī is tied to Mūlādhāra; if it rises for a time, it has to come back.
• Moon in a Mercurian sign in D30 is a problem only if Moon is afflicted. Then, in his daśā, the mental trouble comes from clinging.

A student asks about Mars in Aries in D30: Mars is the energy level, so this is too much energy — fire and causeless irritation when Mars daśā comes.

Planets and Chakras — Many Maps

A student asks which planet rules which chakra.

• There are many maps: one for the tattvas of the subtle body, another for the physical dhātus (the Lalitā Sahasranāma assigns bone, blood and so on to the chakras), and others by other authors.
• They do not compete. Each is drawn for a purpose. Know the purpose before using the map.

This Chart

• Moon is in Aquarius in D30, in the 9th house from the D30 lagna (Gemini) — an inimical sign and a vāyu-tattva sign.
• The weakness of Moon daśā is therefore of the air kind: a wandering, unstable mind. That fits the complaint.
• Beyond that Moon is not badly placed: he is the 2nd lord in the 9th, with no affliction. "There is some minor underlying problem at the subconscious level." Not a life that is over.

D6 (Shastamsha) — Physical Disease

D30 and D6

• D30 shows the subconscious root of the problem.
• D6 shows the physical onset of disease: is she hospitalised, is it serious, do the people around her see that she is ill. Read it with the Rashi.

"D6 shows physical sickness. D30 shows subconscious sickness."

Moon in D6 — This Chart

D6 lagna is Leo.

• Moon is the 12th lord, exalted in Taurus in the 10th.
• The 12th house shows hospitalisation. A dusthāna lord exalted in D6 is not good for health.
• It would be easier if the 12th house itself were clean. It is not: Rahu and Ketu are in Cancer, the 12th.
• So Moon mahādaśā, Moon antardaśā is not a good period.

Long Illness or Short?

• The 12th house alone is not enough for a long disease. The 6th and 8th are the main disease houses.
• Moon's only tie to them: the 6th lord Saturn aspects him (graha dṛṣṭi, from Scorpio to Taurus). Not auspicious, but that is all.
• Such an illness can end a person's normal life for ten or fifteen years. The class's judgment is that this one does not look like that. It looks like a shorter problem.
