Child Chart (2001, Libra Lagna) — D24 Siddhamsa for Learning, Pachakadi Samandhas (4 Planet Relationships) & Brahmana Sapa Yoga (AK Involvement)

A full reading of a 7-year-old with asthma, late speech and slow learning (Libra lagna). The D-24 lagna is settled as Taurus, not Aries, because only Taurus puts a functional malefic Jupiter in the 4th of learning; the D-24 Narayana daśā is seeded from the 4th lord of the rāśi chart and shows trouble until 2013. The class introduces the Pachakādi sambandhas (Pāchaka, Bodhaka, Kāraka, Vedhaka) and finds Saturn the key planet. D-30 shows the nodes in a Vāyu rāśi with unobstructed reverse argalā on Mercury; D-6 Paryāya daśā and the Moola daśā explain asthma from birth. Mars is a māraka in gaṇḍānta and in Mṛtyubhāga, and Jupiter carries a Brahmana śāpa with the Ātmakāraka Rāhu. The class ends with a pearl that upset a manager’s career: gems are a rājasic remedy.

Key principle

When Atmakaraka is involved in a sapa, it is quite bad. The soul basically is involved in it. So it is a very serious sapa.

Libra lagna, 27th degree. D-1: māraka Mars at 2° Sagittarius (Moola gaṇḍānta, Mṛtyubhāga) with Ketu in the 3rd; Jupiter and Rāhu in the 9th in Gemini, aspected by Mars — Brahmana śāpa, and Rāhu is the Ātmakāraka. D-24 (Taurus lagna): Jupiter, 8th and 11th lord, in the 4th in Leo; Mars in the 5th; Saturn in Scorpio is pāchaka of the 4th lord Sun and the 5th lord Mercury. D-30: Rāhu and Ketu in Aquarius, the 4th counted backwards from Mercury in Taurus. D-6 (Virgo lagna): Saturn, 6th lord, in the 6th. The Sun sits on a D-60 boundary: the class has him in Kalināśa ṣaṣṭyāṁśa, the site shows the next one.

What the parents report (the child is 7 at the time of the class): asthma since early childhood, on daily medication; speech did not pick up until age 3; slow at understanding and following instructions; a complaint from the school.

First Look at the Rāśi Chart

  • Saturn is in the 8th house (Taurus), but he is the yogakāraka for Libra lagna (4th and 5th lord).
  • Mars and Ketu are in the 3rd house (Sagittarius). Mars in the 3rd is normally good, but here he is the māraka (2nd and 7th lord) and he is in the 2nd degree of Sagittarius = Moola gaṇḍānta.
  • First dosha, straight away: Mars in gaṇḍānta → gaṇḍānta dosha śānti has to be done.
  • Lagna lord Venus is in Cancer, a fruitful sign, in the 10th house. The 10th lord Moon is in the 4th (Capricorn). Lagna lord and 10th lord aspect each other from kendras (graha dṛṣṭi) → the lagna lord is quite strong.
  • Jupiter is the 3rd and 6th lord, in the 9th (Gemini) with Rāhu → Guru-Chaṇḍāla yoga. Rāhu is within 7–8° of Jupiter; Ketu is within 7–8° of Mars.
  • The gaṇḍānta māraka Mars aspects Jupiter (7th graha dṛṣṭi). So the 6th lord is afflicted by Rāhu and Mars, and A6 is with him in Gemini.

D-24 Siddhāṁśa — Which Lagna?

Any grasping or learning ability — mathematics, physics, or simply following instructions — is seen from D-24.

"If somebody has learning disorder, learning problem, learning difficulty, there has to be something bad going on in the D24. Otherwise it is not possible."

How much leeway? The D-24 lagna is Taurus, but a birth 2 seconds earlier gives Aries. Which one fits a child who cannot learn fast?

Aries lagna does not fit:

  • Jupiter (in Leo) would be in the 5th house of intelligence as 9th and 12th lord — a great benefic. That would be a blessing.
  • Moon daśā is running and learning is not smooth. With Aries lagna Moon would be the 4th lord in a kendra (Capricorn, 10th) aspecting the 4th house. Even in Saturn's sign he should be fine.

Taurus lagna fits:

  • 4th house = primary education; 5th house = basic intelligence. A child who cannot follow instructions has a weakness in the 5th as well as the 4th.
  • Jupiter in the 4th (Leo) is the 8th and 11th lord — a functional malefic in D-24. In the rāśi chart too he is a malefic 3rd and 6th lord giving Guru-Chaṇḍāla yoga. A good planet, but his placement in the 4th is not good for learning.
  • Moon, the daśā lord, is the 3rd lord in the 9th (Capricorn) — the bādhakasthāna for Taurus — and has argalā on the 8th house.
  • Lagna lord Venus is exalted in the 11th (Pisces), but joined by the nodes and aspected by Mars.
  • Mars in the 5th (Virgo): 7th and 12th lord. The 12th is a neutral house; kendra lordship is bad for natural benefics but only neutral for natural malefics. So Mars is functionally neutral, but he is a māraka and not a fruitful planet. Not auspicious in the 5th. Saving grace: exalted Venus aspects the 5th.
  • 5th lord Mercury in the 6th (Libra): can give Dhīmanta yoga, so not that bad, but technically the 5th lord is in a dusthāna.
  • The 4th is worse than the 5th: it holds the 8th lord and Mandi, and A6 (a tangible obstacle) falls there. The 4th lord Sun is in the 2nd (Gemini), a mārakasthāna of no use for learning, aspecting the 8th house.

D-24 Narayana Daśā

  • Default seed for D-24 is the 12th lord of the rāśi chart (Mercury → Libra in D-24). That shows the overall evolution of the person.
  • For formal learning at school, take the 4th lord of the rāśi chart as the seed. Here that is Saturn, who is in Scorpio in D-24. Daśās start from Scorpio.
  • Scorpio is a fixed sign, yet the daśās do not jump to every 6th sign. They run Scorpio → Sagittarius → Capricorn because Saturn is in the seed sign — the Saturn exception applies.
  • Sagittarius daśā: 2005–2013, age 4 to 12 — the years of basic education.
    • Sagittarius is the 8th house of D-24: trouble, tension, ups and downs.
    • It is the 12th from Ārūḍha Lagna (Capricorn) and the 12th from Moon.
    • Its lord Jupiter afflicts the 4th house of basic education.
    • A student points out that the 4th lord Sun aspects Sagittarius. True, and Venus's aspect is good too, but Mars, Rāhu and Ketu also aspect it (rāśi dṛṣṭi). From lagna, AL and Moon the sign is bad. Had its lord been in the 6th there would have been a Viparīta yoga — tension, then things working out.
  • Capricorn daśā (from 2013): the bādhakasthāna. Its lord Saturn is the yogakāraka, but he sits in the 7th (Scorpio), which is not a good house for Saturn, and in A5 (recognition). A mixed daśā, better than Sagittarius.
    • Moon — kāraka of nourishment and mother, and the mind — is in Capricorn, and AL is there. A new beginning: people may understand his condition and give him the right, compassionate environment for learning.

Conclusion: until 2013 learning does not look promising.

Pachakādi Sambandhas (Introduced Here)

Besides friend / enemy, there is another set of relationships. For each planet there is a Pāchaka, a Bodhaka, a Kāraka and a Vedhaka — co-workers that influence how the planet gives its results.

RelationshipMeaningFunction
PāchakaThe one who cooks or ripens (root pach)Prepares the circumstances; hastens the coming of the results
BodhakaThe one who tells, explainsA teacher or counsellor; tells the planet what result to give
KārakaThe one who doesActually gets it done — the most important of the three helpers
VedhakaThe one who obstructsCreates obstacles, so the planet has to work harder

Two forms:

  1. Naisargika — fixed planets, the same in every chart.
  2. By position — fixed houses counted from the planet (pāchakasthāna, bodhakasthāna, kārakasthāna, vedhasthāna); whoever occupies them in the chart takes that role.

In Jagannatha Hora: click on a planet → relationships → Pachakādi relationships.

Naisargika Pachakādi of Venus (as given in class):

  • Moon = Pāchaka — the mind creates the circumstances for Venus.
  • Mercury = Bodhaka — by learning and understanding, Mercury tells Venus how to be happy.
  • Saturn = Kāraka — he does the hard work so that happiness can come.
  • Sun = Vedhaka.

Applied to lagna lord Venus in D-24 (Venus in Pisces):

  • Pāchakasthāna = 2nd from Venus (Aries): empty.
  • Kārakasthāna: empty.
  • Bodhakasthāna = 6th from Venus = Leo — the 4th house of learning, holding the 8th lord Jupiter. Lagna lord and 8th lord have opposite agendas, and Venus and Jupiter are natural enemies. An enemy is entrusted with telling Venus how to do his job.
  • Vedhasthāna (Gemini) holds the Sun, the 4th lord of learning. Had the 4th lord been in the bodhaka or pāchaka place it would have been better.

On the 4th lord Sun (in Gemini):

  • All the places are empty except the pāchakasthāna, Scorpio, which holds Saturn, the yogakāraka. Auspicious. The only problem: Sun and Saturn do not get along.

On the 5th lord Mercury (in Libra):

  • Bodhakasthāna (Capricorn) holds Moon — the 3rd lord, not an important planet; neither helpful nor harmful.
  • Pāchakasthāna (Scorpio) holds Saturn again.

Saturn is the saviour:

"Saturn, the yogakaraka, who is aspecting lagna, who is aspecting the 4th house, and being the pachaka of the 4th lord and 5th lord, he is actually the key planet. Saturn should be worshipped."

He is also the dispositor of Moon, in the 11th from AL, and in A5. Venus, a lagna lord afflicted by the nodes, can be worshipped too, but Saturn matters more.

D-30 — Tattvas, Dhātus and the Nervous System

Rāhu and Ketu are in a Vāyu rāśi (Aquarius, Saturn's sign) in D-30. A serious affliction in a Jala rāśi weakens Jala tattva, and so on. Here Vāyu is weakened.

Vāyu (vāta) in the body is flow: mainly the flow of signals in the nerves, and the flow of blood (blood itself is partly Jala tattva).

Dhātus (tissues) of the planets:

PlanetTissue
SunBone
MoonBlood
MercuryPlasma, skin
MarsNerve tissue
JupiterFat (meda)
SaturnMuscle
VenusSemen, reproductive tissue
Rāhu / KetuNo tissue of their own — they show depletion of all tissues

Tissue versus function: the nerve tissue is Mars, but the job of the nervous system — communicating signals — is Mercury, the kāraka of communication.

Mercury in D-30:

  • In the 8th house (Taurus), in parivartana with Venus (Virgo).
  • Take Mercury as lagna and look at the argalās on him. Venus and Moon (5th from Mercury) give a śubha argalā, but Saturn in the 9th from Mercury obstructs it.
  • Rāhu and Ketu's argalās are counted in reverse. Counting backwards from Mercury — 1, 2, 3, 4 — reaches Aquarius. Rāhu and Ketu have argalā on Mercury.
  • Is it obstructed? The obstructing place is the 10th, counted the same reverse way = Leo. Empty. Unobstructed.

"In Trimsamsa, the argala of Rahu and Ketu on any planet is severe because they are the ones who cause depletion of tissues."

So there is an affliction to Mercury and an affliction to Vāyu: a nervous problem. D-30 shows a subconscious problem that finally manifests physically.

Who saves here? Mercury himself. Mercury–Venus parivartana = Lakshmi–Narayana → worship Vishnu. In D-24 the key planet was Saturn, who can be Venkateswara — Vishnu again.

Rāśi Narayana Daśā and Vimśottarī — No Good Period Ahead

Rāśi Narayana daśā:

  • Libra (running): the lagna itself; everything noted above applies.
  • Scorpio (next): lagna lord Mars is in the 2nd with Ketu, in gaṇḍānta. Jupiter with Guru-Chaṇḍāla yoga is in the 8th, but he is the 5th lord and aspects Mars and Ketu. A little better.
  • Sagittarius: the 12th lord Mars sits in lagna; lagna lord Jupiter has Guru-Chaṇḍāla yoga; Moon, the 8th lord, is in the 2nd. The only saviour is the 10th lord Mercury in the 10th. In the daśā praveśa chakra the lagna lord is in the 6th and the 6th lord aspects lagna.
  • Capricorn: lagna lord Saturn in the 5th is fine, but Guru-Chaṇḍāla yoga falls in the 6th. Its daśā praveśa chakra has Mars and Ketu in lagna and the 6th lord afflicted by Rāhu again.

Vimśottarī (nothing special applies, so regular Vimśottarī): Sun daśā at birth, Moon daśā now. Moon daśā is the better one. Mars daśā, 2012–2019: Mars in gaṇḍānta. Then Rāhu, who gives the Guru-Chaṇḍāla yoga. Jupiter daśā comes late in life and is not rosy either.

During about 2012–2018 Sagittarius daśā (Rāśi Narayana) and Mars daśā (Vimśottarī) run together.

"In some cases you can say if you do this and this, there will be a big impact, because you are on the edge of good and bad. Whereas here you are not on the edge, you are actually well into the bad. So even with some propitiation, things will still be so-so."

Can a Bad Planet Be Propitiated?

A student objects: Mars is not a good planet in this chart, and he is in gaṇḍānta. How do you propitiate him?

  • You do not wear the gem of a bad planet. But you can propitiate him.
  • A good planet who is weak: you propitiate him so that he summons the energy to give the good he already wants to give.
  • A bad planet: you ask him to reduce his intensity so that you suffer less. Like pleading with a goonda who has come to kill you — "after you say it 100 times, maybe he will spare you."
  • Strengthening the lagna lord Venus does not help here. He has nothing to do with the Jupiter–Mars combination and is their enemy. "When your home owner cannot save the home from a gangster, you directly go to the gangster and request him, or you make friends with a friend of the gangster."
  • The friend would be Jupiter, dispositor and friend of Mars — but he is himself afflicted by Rāhu. The teacher's choice: worship Mars directly.
  • Mars with a sarpa graha (Ketu) in a fiery sign (Sagittarius) = Subrahmanya.

Why Asthma, and Why From Birth

  • Lungs and chest are seen from the 3rd house — in the natural zodiac and in the individual chart.
  • Natural 3rd (Gemini) holds the Jupiter–Rāhu combination. The chart's 3rd holds the māraka Mars in gaṇḍānta with Ketu. The 3rd house and the 3rd lord are both afflicted → trouble in the throat or lungs.
  • A student asks: if it began at birth, should Mars or Ketu daśā not have been running at birth? Not necessarily. When the affliction is this bad it can show at any age, including from birth. Mars aspects the lagna lord; the 3rd lord Jupiter aspects lagna.

D-6 Ṣaṣṭhāṁśa with Paryāya daśā — the best tool for disease (D-6 lagna: Virgo):

In D-6, the 6th lord in the 6th or the 8th lord in the 8th is not Harṣa or Sarala yoga, and 6th and 8th lords together in the 8th is not Viparīta yoga. These are bad yogas in D-6.

Paryāya daśāHouse in D-6Reading
Aquarius (at birth)6th house with the 6th lord SaturnDisease. Saturn is the kāraka of disease and shows Vāyu, breathing. With the weak 3rd in rāśi: breathing trouble, weak lungs
Leo (from 2010)12th houseNo relief; hospitalisation possible
PiscesBādhakasthāna; the bādhaka lord is exaltedNot good
Virgo (from 2021)Lagna; lord Mercury in a friendly signSome relief after 2021

But in 2021 the Vimśottarī daśā is Rāhu's — not good. Where one factor is good, two or three others are bad. There is no period that is good by every measure.

Moola Daśā — the Root Cause

  • The Moola daśā running at birth shows the root cause of what is happening. Here it is the Sun's.
  • Judge the Moola daśā lord in D-60 if the D-60 lagna is known. If not, at least see which ṣaṣṭyāṁśa the planet is in. The Sun is in Kalināśa ("destruction of strife") — a good ṣaṣṭyāṁśa.
  • The D-60 lagna is uncertain. With each of the three possible lagnas the Sun has some problem: in the 8th, or the 8th lord, or in the bādhakasthāna. (The Sun is within a hair of a D-60 boundary; the site's chart puts him one ṣaṣṭyāṁśa later, in Scorpio.)
  • In the rāśi chart the Sun is in the 11th, but he is the bādhaka lord in the bādhakasthāna, and the 8th lord from Moon and from Ārūḍha Lagna.

Brahmana Śāpa Yoga

Look for śāpas in the rāśi chart: malefics on Jupiter (Brāhmaṇa), on the 4th house / 4th lord / Moon (mother), on the 9th house / 9th lord / Sun (father), and so on.

In this chart:

  • Jupiter is with Rāhu and Mars aspects him. Two malefics associating with Jupiter = Brahmana śāpa from the previous life.
  • The 9th house has Rāhu and Mars's aspect, but the 9th lord is not afflicted. Venus has two malefics aspecting, but he is only the lagna lord. No other śāpa counts.
  • A student calls the śāpas "nothing serious". The teacher disagrees: Rāhu is close to Jupiter and the aspecting Mars is in gaṇḍānta. This one is very serious.
  • Then he opens the longitudes: Rāhu is the Ātmakāraka.

"When Atmakaraka is involved in a sapa, it is quite bad. The soul basically is involved in it. So it is a very serious sapa."

That is why health is so bad on every count.

Remedy: follow the remedies BPHS gives for Brahmana śāpa — donate cows, gold, land to a Brāhmaṇa. Not to anyone merely born one:

  • One who wants knowledge, learning, spiritual progress is a Brāhmaṇa.
  • One who wants to control other people is a Kṣatriya; one who wants a lot of money, a Vaiśya; one who wants physical pleasures, a Śūdra.
  • Find someone worthy and help him a lot.

A śāpa usually runs throughout life.

Mars in Mṛtyubhāga

After closing the class the teacher reopens the chart — he had suspected one more thing.

"Mars, who is in Gandanta, who is the Maraka, who is afflicted by Ketu, is also in the Mrityubhaga."

  • Mṛtyubhāga: one particular degree for each planet, different in each sign. Mars has one degree in Sagittarius, another in Leo, another in Scorpio.
  • Even a single planet in Mṛtyubhāga is quite bad. Not always death, but death-like suffering.
  • In Jagannatha Hora: Basics → Key Info → pop-up menu in the longitude window → "Distances from Mrityubhaga and Pushkarabhaga".
  • So Mars daśā, 2012–2019, is very serious. After 2012 there can be a severe setback. Prayer may not avert it but can reduce it.

Remedies Prescribed

  1. Gaṇḍānta śānti for Mars, if it was never done.
  2. Vishnu, lifelong — Mercury–Venus parivartana in D-30 (Lakshmi–Narayana) and Saturn in D-24 (Venkateswara). A Vishnu stotra every Saturday and Wednesday.
  3. Subrahmanya / Kārtikeya, above all for 2012–2019 — learn a Subrahmanya mantra and do it with the saṅkalpa that the son should improve.
  4. Brahmana śāpa remedies from BPHS.
  • Start everything now. Do not be disheartened if no result shows.
  • "Serious problems require serious remedies. If you just do 10 minutes, 15 minutes, nothing will happen."
  • What to expect: perhaps no full cure, but the right environment, enough progress and a decent life.

A Pearl That Upset the Career — Gems Are a Rājasic Remedy

The case: a woman manager whose chart was rectified in an earlier class. Lagna 3°03' Scorpio; Moon 10°06' Leo. She was advised a pearl, and career trouble followed at once; she took it off.

Why the Pearl Looked Safe

  • Moon is the 9th lord and Sun the 10th lord, together in the 10th: Raja yoga. The 9th lord's gem is generally safe.
  • Moon is in Maghā; counted from there Moon is the Kṣema tārā lord. Safe by tārā too.
  • In navāṁśa, the key to fortune, Moon is the lagna lord in lagna (Cancer).

What Went Wrong

  • In rāśi Moon is also the bādhaka lord, afflicting the 10th lord in the 10th.
  • To judge a gem for career, look at D-10. There Leo rises; Moon is the 12th lord, debilitated in the 4th (Scorpio), in Ārūḍha Lagna. Instability, unhappiness, loss of direction, confusion. That is what he gave.
  • But he does not destroy: a moksha-trikoṇa lord in a moksha trikoṇa. It may end as some relaxation for her in the long run.

"Gems are a Rajasic remedy. When you wear them, there are drawbacks."

  • You may get the result you expect, and before or after it something else — to career, mother, father, son, spouse. It is very hard to check every division.
  • The harm may also have been sharpened by a flaw in the pearl, in the making of the ring (the maker's state of mind passes into it), or in the day and time it was first worn.
  • When one factor of a rājasic remedy goes wrong, the only thing that compensates is prayer.

How to Wear It Again

  • Keep it in the puja room for 10 days. Each day pray to the Moon for 15–30 minutes: the Moon verse of the Navagraha stotra, the Veda mantra, or simply Oṁ Chandrāya namaḥ.
  • Wear it on a Monday around sunrise, after praying.
  • Expect some early instability in the career, then fortune: he is the 9th lord in rāśi and the navāṁśa lagna lord in lagna.

Her Kālī Mantra

  • Saturn is the Amātyakāraka. The 6th from him is Saturn's own sign → Kālī as Pālana devatā. The advice she was given is right.
  • In rāśi A6 (service) is in Saturn's sign and Saturn is in the 3rd in own sign. In D-10 he is in the 10th in a friendly sign, as 6th and 7th lord.
  • The bīja begins with ka, the letter of Mars. In D-10 Mars is the yogakāraka, exalted in the 6th.
