"You may be working very, very hard, but you may be working hard because you have to pull your rickshaw every day to feed yourself and your family, or you may be working hard because you are the president of a country."

• Rasi can show a man straining and burning himself on account of work. It cannot tell you whether he is a day labourer or a president.
• Dasamsa shows the environment in which the work happens — leader, politician, film-maker.
• 7th lord in D10 = a strong desire that the person pursues in his activities in society. Often that means business rather than service under somebody.

A8 (Mrityupada) — Rasi vs Dasamsa

• A8 is the tangible manifestation of the 8th house: suffering, death, sudden changes.
• A8 in Rasi = physical suffering or the end of physical existence. In the dasha of its lord the person can die or take death-like blows to the body.
• A8 in Dasamsa = the end of professional existence.
• Here Venus owns A8 of the Rasi chart (A8 falls in Taurus). So Venus dasha can bring death-like suffering to the body; he should be careful about health. It does not by itself say the career ends.

Karyesha — The Planet in Charge of Each Area of Life

The Karyesha is taken from the Rasi chart:

• The 10th house of Rasi shows the actions you undertake in the physical plane. Its lord shows the intelligence you apply to those actions.
• "Always planets are the animation, they are the intelligence."

• Mars is in the 5th with A9 (the tangible manifestation of fortune) and Ghati Lagna (the point of power, the control you have over other people). Mars is the giver of power in this chart.

Jupiter + Rahu (a student's point):

• Rahu (4th lord, as co-lord of Aquarius) and Jupiter (5th lord) are together in the 10th.
• It is a Raj Yoga, but a weaker one. Jupiter and Rahu hate each other — "it's like telling two people who hate each other to cooperate and do something good. It may or may not happen."

Jupiter + Ketu — the main one:

• Ketu is also lagna lord of Scorpio — "actually he is the stronger lagna lord than Mars."
• Ketu is in the 7th from Jupiter, so 5th lord Jupiter aspects the lagna lord.
• Jupiter and Ketu are fine with each other, so this yoga is more auspicious than Jupiter–Rahu.
• "Any Raj Yoga involving lagna lord and 5th lord will definitely give power."
• Kind of power: it comes through Jupiter-like and Ketu-like people — intelligent, spiritual, religious people. In the US that is the conservative base; a person with a Raj Yoga given by Jupiter or Ketu is better placed in Republican politics than Democratic, because the religious right will favour him.

Sun + Jupiter:

• Beyond the physical direction, Agni shows the direction of the work: transform, make things happen.
• Fire is the energy that changes a thing from one state to another:
  • dry grains of rice into soft rice you can eat — or it burns them so you cannot eat them
  • the Agni in the brain turns the sound waves entering your ears into knowledge that is stored and applied later
  • Jatharagni, the fire in the stomach, turns food into the nutrition each tissue needs
• Planets in Agni's dasamsa typically make good engineers: there is an idea and he turns it into something that works.
• A politician with a planet in Agni's dasamsa will create something — radical or conservative, but he creates. He is the brain: he converts an ideology or agenda into action, into strategy.
• A politician with lagna lord, 5th, 9th or 10th lord in Agni's dasamsa is a good strategist, policy-maker and legislator. Legislation is the conversion of a goal into rules the society lives by — Agni's domain.
• "Good" means capable. You may or may not like the strategy or the policy.
• Here the lagna lord, in the 5th, is in Agni's dasamsa → a very capable politician and policy-maker.

Natal Rasi Chart — Leo Lagna

A student asks whether the chart shows the mindset — such men believe that what they do is right. PVNR: right and wrong are subjective; what the chart shows is that this man wants power and control, and, given control, will make policy from his own beliefs. Then he reads the beliefs.

"His Own Boss" — 9th Lord in Lagna

• Principle: lagna lord in the 9th, or 9th lord in lagna → the person is his own boss. He does not listen to anybody.
• Such people tend to settle in work of their own, in business, since they take orders from nobody.
• In D10 the 9th lord Moon is in lagna. As far as work goes — business or politics — he is very independent.

Strong Dharma, Pragmatic Method

• The 9th is the house of dharma, and the dharma lord is in Scorpio, a sign of Mars → a very strong sense of dharma: "this is my righteous duty, this is what I should do."
• That Moon is debilitated. Debilitated planets in Dasamsa show pragmatism.
• "The 9th lord in debility usually shows somebody who has a strong sense of dharma but is also quite pragmatic" — pragmatic about how to push it, which buttons to push, when, and with whom.

Leo Lagna (Rasi)

Rasi is the overall "who you are".

• Leo lagna = a born king. Not born in a princely family — he may be born in a very low family — but he conducts himself like royalty. The same holds for a woman.
• A student asks whether the Sun must be in lagna for this. No: "Just Leo lagna is enough."
• "The way they speak, as if they are the final authority. That is their basic attitude."

Scorpio in the D10 — Ice, Not Fire

• D10 lagna is Scorpio, with Mars in a trine and the Moon also in Scorpio. Lagna and Moon both in Scorpio = a strong Scorpio stamp.
• Leo lagna may still listen to you sometimes. A strong Scorpio lagna or Moon is unlikely to.
• Aries vs Scorpio — both ruled by Mars, both like the chief of an army:
  • Aries is fire. They preach, argue, fight; you can see the fire around them. Yet they can change their mind if you convince them, and then be just as persuasive about the new thing.
  • Scorpio is water, but a fixed sign, so it is rigid water: ice. A will that does not melt. The fire is there, because Mars owns it, but it is undetectable; what people detect is coolness — "this guy knows what he wants to do."
