Boss Analysis — Three Reference Points in D10

The case: the students had looked, the previous Friday, at the chart of a woman in trouble with her boss. She was getting a bad rating and wanted to know whether to look for another job. Their question: for trouble with the boss, do we look at the 9th lord or at A9?

"L9 is important if you want to see the fortune of boss himself, whether boss is going to have a good time or a bad time, whether there is a change in the boss. But if you want the relationship with the boss, what kind of guidance the boss is able to give, for that L9 is not that important. For that, 9th house itself is important."

"Boss not being happy with her, boss being in a punishing mood — these are all tangible things. You are not talking about intangible. So for that, use arudha."

• For interaction with the boss: the 9th house and A9 are the two that matter.
• For what befalls the boss himself (not the interaction): the 9th lord.

What was told to the native

• Up to the following March or April the period does not look good. She will have trouble.
• The students named two dates, heard in the recording as "3:11" and "5:18" (most likely 11 March and 18 May): things begin to turn after the first, and a good period starts after the second.
• Advice given: lie low, take whatever is given, do not leave the job. The teacher agreed.

Gemstone Prescription Rules

The question: the native is Christian and not religious, so she will not do mantras. The students thought of suggesting a gemstone. But Mercury is the planet giving her trouble: Mercury is good in the natal chart and bad in this year's Tithi Pravesha. Would strengthening Mercury give her more trouble?

Only the Natal Chart

"You don't suggest the gemstones based on the T.P. of this year. Only based on the natal chart."

• Find the planet that, in the natal chart, shows a good relation with the boss and good recognition in the workplace. Suggest that planet's gemstone.
• Take the 5th house and the 9th house of the Dashamsa, their lords, and their arudhas. The 5th house is fame, popularity, recognition in the workplace.
• Pick a planet connected to these in a positive way and without any blemish.

Good in Rasi, Bad in Dashamsa

• A student asked: if the planet is good in Rasi but bad in D10, what does strengthening it do?
• It may help life overall, because it is well placed in the Rasi chart. But there can be problems in the career, because it is bad in the Dashamsa.
• So choose a planet that is good in both Rasi and Dashamsa.

Worship vs Gemstones

"Even if the planet is good or bad in Rasi, good or bad in Dashamsa, by praying to the planet you are not doing anything wrong. Basically you are safe."

When the Client Accepts No Other Remedy

• A student raised the weight of the gem. There are all kinds of specifications; the class had no knowledge of them.
• If somebody does not believe in any remedy, the gemstone is the only thing left. Do the best job you can, leave it to God, and suggest the stone.
• Getting the weight wrong is not the most important thing. As long as the planet is a good planet in the Rasi chart and the important divisional charts, things will be fine.

Secular Remedies — For Non-Religious Clients

Jupiter, Religion and a Christian Client

• A student asked whether Jupiter is the better choice for her because she is Christian.
• Jupiter in any chart shows religiousness and following one's own religion strictly, whatever the religion.
• Rahu's influence shows other religions. In the chart of a Christian, Hinduism may be shown by Rahu.
• Can she be told to pray to Jesus for Jupiter? There is no classical sanction. Which deities of Buddhism, Islam or Christianity represent which planets is not known. "Your guess is as good as mine."
• A strict Christian does not accept a multitude of gods or idol worship. So do not send her to a deity. Jupiter is the teacher and the priest: let her serve a priest.

"Some priest needs some volunteer on a Sunday to help with some work. You go and serve the priest, and he is happy with you. That may be your propitiation for Jupiter."

Jupiter Is Not the Boss

• Asked whether Jupiter also represents the boss: not necessarily.
• Sun is the boss, the manager, the administrator, the one who commands you. He is the king.
• Jupiter is the minister, the wise counsellor.

Service or Donation for the Planet

Apart from worship of a deity and apart from gemstones, suggest giving labour (śrama-dāna) or giving money (dhana-dāna) to some concern that the planet represents. The teacher gave four examples:

• This is a sāttvic measure. It is not a jump-start.
• It is safe even when the planet is bad for you.

"It's not that you are strengthening the planet, it's that you are making the planet happier with you. If the planet is displeased with you, displeasure will become less. If the planet is pleased with you, pleasure will become increased."

• This is what to suggest to a secular client.

Prasna Left Aside

• A student asked how a prasna chart could confirm a birth chart when there is little data, or show the nature of the person and whether the question is genuine.
• The teacher declined: prasna is a subject by itself and has to be learnt slowly. Rely on the birth chart when you have the data.
