Iran — Lunar New Year Chart 2009 (Tehran)

Lagna: Virgo 29°11' — the end of the sign

Which Daśā

• Lagna lord Mercury is in the 7th, so Dvisaptati Sama daśā (72 years) applies.
• The lagna is vargottama, so Śatābdika daśā (100 years) applies as well.
• The lagna lord in the 7th is debilitated, so he prefers Śatābdika. He then goes straight to the houses and does not read the daśā.

Rāśi Analysis

• The 7th house (Pisces) is the most afflicted: lagna lord Mercury with the 9th lord Venus, but also with the 12th lord Sun, and the Amavasya yoga. Sun and Moon are in Kaṇṭaka ṣaṣṭyāṁśa.
• The 7th lord Jupiter is debilitated with the 6th lord Rahu. The 6th and 7th lords together: relationships do not look great.
• One positive: the lagna lord going to the 7th means Iran will be more proactive in diplomacy, and Mercury and Venus are both planets of diplomacy.
• The 7th in the rāśi chart is not only foreign relations. It is also deaths in the country, marriages, and relations among the people. For foreign relations go to the Navāṁśa.

Navāṁśa (Foreign Relations)

• The lagna has exalted Mercury: a very flexible attitude.
• The 7th lord Jupiter is in the 12th, in a friendly sign. Relations are not that bad.
• Mars, the 8th lord, is in the 6th house of war: Viparīta Raja yoga. It does not show a big war.

"So overall, it is possible that there will be some reconciliation and they will show some flexible attitude. So there doesn't seem to be a major concern with Iran during this year."

Government versus Opposition

• Rāśi: the 10th lord Mercury is debilitated, though with several planets. The 3rd lord Mars (the opposition) is in the 6th, a difficult house, but strong.
• Daśāṁśa (Aquarius lagna): the 3rd lord and the 10th lord are the same planet, Mars, debilitated with Ketu in the 6th.
  • From the 3rd house (Aries) he is in a kendra, giving argala.
  • From the 10th house (Scorpio) he is in the bādhaka sthāna.
  • Mercury and Rahu aspect that Ketu (graha dṛṣṭi, 7th aspect, from Capricorn to Cancer).
• So the rāśi and the Daśāṁśa both place the opposition slightly better than the government.

"There is a chance that in the elections this year in Iran, there is a chance that there will be a change of government, there will be a change of leadership. That is a possibility."

• The 10th lord sits with several planets, a mixed influence. So the government may be a mixture: a broad-based government with several influences, not one strong centre of power.
• A student objected that even now the president does not control Iran; the clerics do. The teacher: "I don't want to talk too much about things that I don't know."

Daśāṁśa (Is There a Stable Government?)

• Lagna is Sagittarius. Lagna lord Jupiter is weak, in the 6th in an inimical sign.
• The 10th lord Mercury is not bad, but he is with Rahu, the 3rd lord. 3rd = opposition, 10th = government: they have to work together. He is not that strong.
• The 4th house (Pisces) is the strongest house: Venus (6th lord), Moon (8th lord), Sun (9th lord) and Saturn (3rd lord). The 6th, 8th and 9th lords together is a bad yoga. Saturn, the ruler of the year, is there too, in a kendra, which makes this a very important house.
• Mars and Ketu are in the 8th: sudden changes, setbacks. Mars is the 5th lord of pūrva puṇya, and he is in the 8th.
• Verdict: not promising for a stable government. Iraq may continue to struggle.

Navāṁśa (Relations with Other Countries)

• Lagna (Leo) has Jupiter, the 5th and 8th lord.
• The 3rd house has many planets, Saturn among them. They are weak, but they are in the 3rd, the house of initiative in relations with other countries.
• Mars, the yogakaraka, is in the 7th.
• Relations with other countries will be better. Other countries will invest more money there.

"So relations with other countries look fine, but government seems very weak."

Triṁśāṁśa (Evils Plaguing the Country)

• Lagna (Capricorn) has debilitated Jupiter. (He first said "exalted" and corrected himself.)
• The 3rd house of initiative and boldness has many planets, and a very bad combination among them.
• So: misadventures. Iraq may take some bold but misinformed actions, and some of them may backfire.
• Apart from that, nothing terrible. There is some hope for Iraq.

North Korea — Lunar New Year Chart 2009 (Pyongyang)

Lagna: Scorpio 29°31' — the last degree of the sign, deep Gandanta (The site's chart for Pyongyang gives Scorpio 28°38'; the houses and every varga lagna used below are the same.)

"In the lunar new year chart, whichever countries are getting deep Gandanta, there will be some instability there during the year. It is a bad year. So there is some evil for the country."

Rāśi Analysis

• The Amavasya yoga falls on the 7th lord Venus and the 8th lord Mercury, who are together: a maraka combination.
• The 9th lord Moon and the 10th lord Sun are with them. Marakas with the 9th and 10th lords: some evil to the king is possible — death of the ruler or something like that.
• The 9th lord is also the fortune of the country. The country will run out of fortune.
• All of this sits in the 5th house (Pisces), the house of pūrva puṇya: the 8th lord, the 10th lord and the Amavasya yoga.
• The lord of that house, Jupiter, is debilitated with Rahu, and on top of that he is in the 3rd, his maraṇa kāraka sthāna. "So Jupiter is totally beaten down. So pūrva puṇya is gone during this year."
• The 5th is also emotions and judgment.

"So North Korea will misjudge badly during this year. This is a year of fatal misjudgments on the part of North Korea."

• A student adds, and the teacher agrees: in the Triṁśāṁśa too the 5th house of judgment is badly afflicted.

Daśāṁśa (The King)

• Lagna is Aries. The 10th lord Saturn is in the 12th house of loss, with the Amavasya yoga there.
• Lagna lord Mars is afflicted by Ketu.
• The 10th house has Mercury (6th lord, a functional malefic) and Rahu (the bādhakeśa). The 6th lord with the bādhakeśa is always a bad combination; in the 10th of the Daśāṁśa it is bad for the king and the government.

Navāṁśa (Relations with Other Countries)

• Lagna lord Jupiter is in the 6th (Leo): an aggressive, quarrelsome attitude towards other countries.
• The 7th lord Mercury is in the 7th. He is the saviour.
• But the 8th house is very bad: the 5th lord Moon, the 6th lord Sun, the 12th lord Saturn and the 9th lord Ketu together, with the Amavasya yoga. Moon in the 8th is in maraṇa kāraka sthāna.
• The 7th is also the bādhaka sthāna, and Mercury is the bādhakeśa in it. With the 8th so bad, his strength in the 7th matters less; his being bādhakeśa in the bādhaka sthāna will play its part.

"Out of all the Navāṁśas we have seen, this looks the worst. So they will ruin their relations with other countries. They will engage in foolish actions, ruin their relations with other countries. So this is a year of great concern."

India — Lunar New Year Chart 2009 (New Delhi)

Lagna: Libra 22°44' Ruler of the year (Hora lord): Mars — the 7th lord of relations with other countries, placed in the 5th

Navāṁśa (Blessings)

• The 7th house has the Amavasya yoga. But Sun and Moon own the 5th and the 4th here. The 4th and 5th lords are together in a kendra, with Saturn and Ketu. There is friction, but their agenda is not bad.
• The 6th lord Mercury is in the 6th: Harṣa yoga.
• The lagna and the 11th have a parivartana (Rahu in Aries, Mars in Aquarius). That is not good.
• The 9th lord Jupiter is in the 5th, in a friend's sign. He is the saviour.
• The Navāṁśa is seen for blessings, and some blessings are there. It does not look that bad.

Rāśi — Ruling Party and Opposition

• The 10th lord Moon is in the Amavasya yoga, with the bādhaka lord Sun and the 8th lord Venus. Two influences restrict him.
• The 9th lord Mercury is also with him. That is a good Raja yoga, but the 8th lord and the bādhaka lord restrict the 10th lord.
• The 10th house has Ketu. Not strong for the ruling party.
• The 3rd house of the opposition: its lord Jupiter is debilitated with Rahu.

"So the chart is neither good for the ruling party nor for the opposition party. Both will suffer."

Daśāṁśa (Politics)

• The lagna (Taurus) has the 8th lord Jupiter: a big change in the politics of the country. Jupiter favours right-wing parties.
• The 10th house is Aquarius, with two lords.
  • Rahu is in the 12th from it (Capricorn) with Mercury, who is the 8th lord counted from Aquarius. So the lord of the 10th is with the 8th lord from it, in the 12th from it.
  • Saturn is in the 11th of the chart (Pisces, the 2nd from Aquarius) with Sun and Moon and Venus — the 7th lord, the 6th lord and the yogakaraka counted from Aquarius.
  • Mixed indications for the ruling side. Either way its lord is in the 2nd or the 12th from it.
• The 3rd house is Cancer. It has Mars, the yogakaraka counted from Cancer, and Ketu. Its lord Moon is in the 9th from it.
• Judged by the planets in it and by its lord's place from it, the 3rd wins.

Prediction for the 2009 Elections

• Some change in the government. Probably a hung parliament. Nobody will sweep the election; it will be messy.
• "Ruling party" and "opposition" mean coalitions here, since no single party rules India. Bad and mixed signs for both mean the coalitions will be restructured: after the election some parties will jump from the NDA to the UPA or the other way.
• The opinion polls had Congress leading at the centre.

"My impression is there will be some changes as weeks pass by and as we approach the election, and probably Congress will suffer a bit and probably the BJP or some opposing party will do well, will do better."
