Q&A — Dasamsa (D10) Interpretation

Amsa Rulers in D10

Question: for the amsa ruler (Indra amsa, Varuna amsa and so on), do we look at the 10th lord of the Rasi chart or of the Dasamsa?

Answer: both, but the Dasamsa matters more.

• The 10th lord of the Rasi chart is the work carried out at the physical level. His amsa carries a message.
• But the 10th house of Rasi is not only your work. It is the 4th from the 7th (the wife's happiness), the father's wealth, the children's enemies, and much else.
• The Dasamsa is the chart of the work you do. There the lagna lord is the seed of the work, the 6th lord the obstacles you overcome, the 11th lord the fulfilment of goals, the 7th lord the relationships you maintain.
• Read the amsas of the lords of the various Dasamsa houses, and of the occupants too.

"Even though the 10th lord of Rasi chart is important, he is the seed basically for Dasamsa. So you should consider him. But most important is Dasamsa itself."

Examples:

• Varuna is conducive to business. The 7th lord, or a planet in the 7th, in Varuna amsa: very favourable for business.
• A planet tied to the 5th house, A5 or Ghati Lagna, and placed in Indra amsa: fame, popularity, influence.

A student's analogy, which the teacher accepts: the Rasi chart is the physical layer of a network, carrying every protocol; the divisional charts are the applications running over it.

House Owned vs House Occupied

The question was about the 2nd lord in the 12th of the Dasamsa.

• The house a planet owns is its agenda — what it wants to do.
• The house a planet occupies is what it is asked to do, and what resources are placed at its command.
• What the planet wants matters more than what it is asked to do. The result is a blend of both.

"The house owned by the planet is what the planet likes to do, what the planet's inherent agenda is. And the house occupied by the planet is what it's asked to do."

"If a planet is in the second house, it doesn't mean you have resources. It means your resources, your wealth, is what the planet has at its command to further its agenda."

2nd lord in 12th, more closely:

• The 12th is not only depletion. It is putting to use and giving away.
• Counted from the 2nd house, he is its lagna lord in its 11th. So wealth is never harmed, only increased — but the native cannot enjoy it much.
• "Money always in rotation." If the planet is debilitated, the giving may be out of helplessness rather than enjoyment.
• It need not be money: "The person may have 10 cars but they may always be in some other people's garages."
• In the Dasamsa: resourceful at the workplace, but the resources are always committed to something, so he always feels short of them.

The same holds for any house: a planet in the 6th has enmity as the resource at its command, and uses it or not according to its own agenda.

Q&A — Accusation and Reputation (10th House Analysis)

Question: when somebody is accused, do we see the 6th house or the 8th?

Answer: ask what is under attack. An accusation is a blot on conduct and good name → 10th house.

• Parashara calls the 10th house Mana: respect. It is your conduct and activities in society, which decide your name.
• The 5th house is popularity — following, command over people, power. That is different from a good name. If the 5th is linked, the bad name may also drive followers away.
• Other houses come in according to the charge. Accused of amassing money illegally: the 2nd house too, with Rahu's influence on it.
• Rahu's influence on the 10th house or on the Arudha Lagna: expect an accusation or a scam.

True or False Accusation

"If it is from Arudha Lagna, it is just a mere accusation. If it is from 10th house, it is actually the person doing something bad."

Amala Yoga

Definition: the 10th from Lagna and the 10th from Moon hold natural benefics and no natural malefics.

Result: unblemished reputation. "Nobody dares to accuse him."

Why both houses: a reputation clean in the eyes of people but blemished in your own mind is a blemish too.

"When the 10th from Moon and 10th from Lagna are both clean, neither happens. You haven't done anything wrong and you don't feel that there is a blemish on your reputation. You are very peaceful in that case."

Grades:

• Perfect: only benefics occupying and only benefics aspecting.
• Secondary: at least one benefic in each of the two houses and no malefic in either, whatever the aspects.
• An empty house does not make the yoga.

The chart on screen: the 10th from Moon is empty and Saturn aspects it; the 10th from Lagna has Venus, but Rahu aspects it. No Amala Yoga.

Moon vs Lagna as Reference Point

Question: the Lagna has no planet; the Moon is with one planet and aspected by two more. Read from Lagna or from Moon?

• A strong Moon is an active mind. How that mind looks at things becomes very important.
• Houses from Lagna, the seat of intelligence, do not become unimportant.
• Ideally mix both; otherwise pick whichever is more important.

What the houses from Moon show — the native's own view:

• 10th from Moon = his view of what he is doing; "the karma of the mind"
• 5th from Moon = his view of his popularity and power
• 6th from Moon = his view of his enemies

How to judge the Moon's strength here: not by exaltation or debilitation — Lagna has none, so the two cannot be compared that way. Count the planets joining and aspecting each. Moon with three planets and Lagna with one: Moon is stronger.

A student's rider: the planets joining the Moon should not be of the kind that weaken it (the word is garbled on the recording). The teacher agrees: "Then, instead of making it strong, they make it weak."

Use in practice: a person unhappy with career, with Mars and Rahu in the 10th from Moon, during the periods of those planets — the unhappiness may come from that placement alone. Suggest a remedy: Narasimha, or Subrahmanya (Kartikeya).

"In general, stick to Lagna, but when Moon is strong, give more importance to Moon than Lagna."

6th Lord in 12th — Vipareeta Yoga

• 6th lord in 12th: very auspicious.
• 6th and 12th lords exchanging houses: even better.
• Condition: only dusthana lords must be involved.

"If the 6th and 12th lord who are exchanging houses also have the 9th lord or 10th lord or somebody along with them, it spoils the Vipareeta Yoga. If only dusthana lords are involved in exchange or conjunction, it is very auspicious."
