Three-Parts Rule (Trirāśi Āyuh) for Longevity + Marriage Compatibility: UL Cross-Link, Venus 3-11, Mangalik Dosha (Extremely Overrated)

Marriage Compatibility Analysis

Charts (both IST):

• Girl: 11 December 1982, 4:00 AM — Libra lagna; Moon and Saturn in lagna; Moon in Chitra
• Boy: 13 April 1979, 10:30 AM — Gemini lagna; Moon in Libra, in Swati

A. Moon, Tara and Lagna

Student's worry: a rule that the boy's Moon sign counted from the girl's should not be 2nd or 4th — only beyond the 7th is acceptable.

Teacher: Do not pay much attention to that rule. What is normally done:

• The one drawback of the same Moon sign: Saturn's troubles, and every transit good or bad, reach both at the same time.

B. Upapada (UL) Cross-Links — the SJC Check

Boy's UL = Leo. The girl's lagna should have to do with it.

• Saturn sits in his UL and Venus aspects it (graha drishti from Aquarius).
• The girl has a Venus-ruled lagna, Libra, with Saturn in it. The UL of the boy corresponds to the girl's chart.

Girl's UL = Sagittarius.

• The boy's lagna, Gemini, is the 7th from it.
• His lagna lord Mercury is in a kendra (the 10th) — he is a strongly mercurial person — and her UL contains Mercury.

"There is a strong link between the two charts. The UL of one person and lagna of the other person, and vice versa."

C. Venus — Emotional Harmony

• Moon is the mental state. Venus is emotional harmony, love and romance.
• His Venus is in Aquarius, hers in Sagittarius — mutual 3–11.
• The 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th are upachayas: they increase. Her Venus increases his and his increases hers. Good romance between them.

D. Three-Parts Rule — Longevity of Each

Why: If the bridegroom will die in five or ten years and the girl will live another thirty, or the reverse, think before saying "go ahead". At least point out the difference.

Rule:

• One planet or point: movable sign = long life, fixed sign = short life, dual sign = middle life.
• Take a pair. Both in the same kind of sign → that result. In two different kinds → the third kind, the absent one, gives the result. "I say take this, she says take that — then the third person wins."
• Three pairs: (1) lagna lord and 8th lord, (2) Moon and Saturn, (3) lagna and Hora Lagna.
• Majority wins: two short + one middle = short; two middle + one long = middle; two long + one short = long.
• Tie (one long, one middle, one short): if Moon or Saturn is in lagna or the 7th house, go by the Moon–Saturn pair. Otherwise go by lagna–Hora Lagna.
• Aspects play no part in this rule.
• Why Hora Lagna: it is based on the 2nd house — the house of food, and of death, the removal of sustenance.

Girl (Libra lagna):

One of each. Moon and Saturn are in lagna, so their pair decides → long life.

• There are kakshya increases and reductions, but the ballpark is long life. "Long life technically means more than 72, but at least 60 years, let us say."
• Vimshottari cross-check: she is running Jupiter dasha — Jupiter is in the 2nd and owns the 3rd and 6th, a potential maraka dasha. Then Saturn and Mercury. Ketu, co-lord of the 2nd, sits in the 3rd — probably Ketu dasha. That is 70-plus years, the same as the three-parts rule.

Boy (Gemini lagna):

Two long, one middle → long life. (The teacher's working of the first two pairs is lost in the recording; the placements are from the chart and give his stated total, "two long lives, one middle life".)

Conclusion: Both are 70-plus charts. No mismatch.

E. Widowhood

• Comparing the two longevities is a different thing from seeing combinations for widowhood. If the girl's chart has widowhood in it, she will not marry the long-lived man you suggest — she will marry someone else and be widowed.
• "We don't anyway know a lot of combinations for widowhood." The simple test: strength of the 7th house in Rasi and Navamsa.
• Girl's Rasi: 7th lord Mars is exalted, though in the 4th. Navamsa: 7th lord Mercury is in the 3rd with 3rd lord Venus — quite strong. No widowhood. A successful married life.

F. Kuta

• Yoni kuta: tiger and buffalo (Chitra and Swati) — not good.
• The other kutas looked at are acceptable.
• The teacher did not have his guna table with him. His guess for the total: "upper 20s or so". The counting is put off to the next class.

"You won't get a perfect match."

G. Mangalik / Kuja Dosha

Student: Mars is in the 2nd from Venus — kuja dosha.

• Both have Mars in the 2nd from Venus. Both have Mars in a kendra from lagna (her 4th, his 10th).
• Hers is exalted. Mars exalted or in own house is not counted as Mangalik. It is seen in Rasi only.
• His is in a friendly sign, Pisces. The dispositor Jupiter is exalted and aspects Mars (graha drishti from Cancer). That protects Mars.
• "I will not really worry too much about this kuja dosham."

"Manglik and kuja dosham are, unfortunately, extremely, extremely overrated things. And people don't even fully understand or appreciate what is involved."

• The Aishwarya Rai story — Mangalik, so her father-in-law would die; many temples, many pujas, a marriage to a banana tree.
• If there are serious doshas in Navamsa and Rasi, such remedies make sense. Doing all that only because somebody is "Mangalik" is utter nonsense.

H. The One Concern — Maraka from the Boy's UL

Sun, Mars and Mercury are together in Pisces, the 8th from his UL (Leo). Reckoned from UL:

• Mercury is the only concern. When Mercury dasha runs, after 2032, some forces may try to break the marriage; some dissatisfaction.

"Overall, my feeling is, this is a good match and they can go ahead. That is my final judgment."

Remedies and Timing

• Boy: fast on Sundays (the day of UL lord Sun) and propitiate Mercury — Lalita Tripurasundari.
• Girl: Subrahmanya is fine — her Mars is exalted, and praying to Subrahmanya for marriage is enough. Narasimha or Subrahmanya, either.
• Timing: the running period's planet is with Venus (the planet's name is garbled in the recording; in her chart Mercury and Ketu are with Venus in Sagittarius, her UL). "Very soon she will be married. Before November."
