Jyotishi Yoga (1/3/5/6 Connection), Mahapurusha + Retrograde Rule & Debilitation of Trine vs Kendra vs Dusthana Lords

Jyotish (Dhīmanta) Yoga — Lords of 1, 3, 5 and 6

The question: a student had read in Jaimini that lagna lord with 3rd lord, or with 6th lord, or with 5th lord, also gives the yoga — not only the 5th and 6th lords. Is that so? The teacher: yes. (The recording has the name as "Jyotish yoga"; the teacher then calls the person who has it a dhīmanta.)

• Perfect yoga: lagna lord, 5th lord, and the 3rd and 6th lords all connected.
• In practice: "you won't find it in real life." A connection between any two or three lords out of 1st, 3rd, 5th and 6th is some level of the yoga. Some level of intelligence will be present.
• It is not only the 5th and 6th lords every time.

"Ideally there is a connection between all the factors: 1, 5, 3, and 6. But you won't find it in real life. So even if there is connection between two or three of those factors, that is a dhīmanta technically."

Mahapurusha Yoga + Retrogression = Very Weak

The question (same native as Section 1): her Mercury is in the 4th house in Kanya, retrograde, and with a malefic. Does this give Bhadra Mahapurusha yoga?

• Technically yes. Mercury is exalted in a kendra, so by the rules the yoga is there.
• But an exalted planet that is retrograde has uchcha-bhanga. The teacher first checked that Mercury is not in neecha navamsa; it is not. The retrogression alone breaks the exaltation.
• The Bhadra yoga given by such a Mercury is not strong. Its results will not be felt in any strong measure.

Affliction vs Retrogression

• Not retrograde, but with a malefic: the affliction may take some of the sheen off, but exalted Mercury in a quadrant still gives Bhadra yoga, and the results are much stronger than in this case.
• Retrograde and exalted: "forget the affliction, affliction doesn't really matter. Just because he is retrograde, in this particular case, the yoga is very, very weak."
• This holds for all five: Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus or Saturn exalted in a kendra. Affliction does not matter much; the yoga is present. Retrogression along with exaltation is the problem.

Own Sign Is Different

• The same yogas are given by a planet in its own sign. Example: Jupiter in Pisces in the 4th house for Sagittarius lagna.
• There, being retrograde has no impact.

"If it is exalted and giving the Mahapurusha yoga, then being retrograde will basically take the power out of the Mahapurusha yoga."

A Question Left Open

• Asked what shows male chauvinism, the teacher said he did not know.
• Any stubborn belief that one thing is superior to another has fire in it: Sun and Mars. Why one gender in particular is held superior, he could not say, and knew of no classical sanction.

Debilitation of Trine vs Kendra vs Dusthana Lords

The question: a student asked about the 5th lord debilitated in lagna. That happens only for Cancer lagna with Mars in lagna, so the teacher widened it: what if the 5th or the 9th lord is debilitated?

"Debilitation of any trine lord is undesirable. Debilitation of dusthana lords is desirable, but debilitation of the trine lord is not so desirable."

What the Students Answered First

• Creativity and dharma become hard to play out; issues with children.
• The Rasi chart is the physical chart. The 5th lord of the Rasi chart shows how the matters of the 5th house in the various divisional charts manifest physically. So something is wrong on the physical plane in some 5th-house matter: scholarship, children, or another.
• A student added that debilitation of a quadrant lord is also undesirable. The teacher: yes, but the trine is worse.

Why the Trine Lord Suffers Most

• Trines show the blessings of Mahalakshmi, the result of past good karma, given without effort.
• 9th lord debilitated: the fortune is weak. A student added that it affects the father also.
• 5th lord debilitated: something is lacking in the ability of the person.
• An exalted planet is like someone excited, for whom things happen smoothly. A debilitated planet is like someone unhappy with his position who has to work hard to get things done.
• So the one who should hand you the blessings of past karma is unhappy where he is placed, and is forced to put in effort.
• Quadrants show effort, which is why debilitation hurts a quadrant lord less.

Weak, Not Bad

"It is not that that planet suddenly becomes bad for you. That planet is still good for you, but that planet is so weak that it cannot do its goodness."

• It is undesirable, but not terrible.
• "That planet wants to help you, but his hands are tied."
• A trine lord exalted is excellent.

Remedy and Timing for a Debilitated Trine Lord

• You can wear the gemstone of that planet. He is weak and cannot give his results; strengthening him is fine.
• Praying to the planet also helps.
• Choose the time. Being debilitated, the planet cannot normally deliver. Pray when the planet has some strength:
  • when its dasha or antardasha is running, because then it has more control over your life; or
  • when it has a strong transit, for example exalted in transit, or transiting the 1st house.

"You pick a time when the planet is strong, then the results are likely to be given better. So you can wear the gemstone, and you can manipulate the time when you actually pray to the planet, so that the results are maximized."
