Jyotishi yoga = connection between lords of houses 1, 3, 5, and 6: 1st = core consciousness; 5th = scholarship and wisdom; 3rd = initiative to apply intelligence; 6th = ability to overcome obstacles. "Even 2-3 of these connected = partial Jyotishi yoga." Mahapurusha yoga + retrogression: if the planet is EXALTED + retrograde = Uchchabhanga cancels the exaltation benefit → yoga becomes very weak ("retrograde effectively debilitates an exalted planet"). If the planet is in OWN SIGN + retrograde = own sign is NOT cancelled by retrograde → Mahapurusha yoga survives. Rule: "Retrogression nullifies exaltation but NOT own sign." Debilitation grading: Dusthana lord (3/6/8/11/12) debilitated = DESIRABLE — the obstacle-creator is weakened, fewer obstacles arise. Kendra lord (4/7/10) debilitated = moderate concern. Trine lord (1/5/9) debilitated = NOT desirable — the bringer of past-karma blessings is weakened; "the planet wants to help but its hands are tied." Solution for debilitated trine lord: it is still good for you — wear its gemstone (safe because it is beneficial but weak) or pray during its dasha or during a strong transit of that planet in the current sky. "Pick the timing when the planet is strong — results are more likely."

In practice: Even a connection between 2 or 3 of these lords = some level of Jyotishi yoga.

Mahapurusha Yoga + Retrogression = Very Weak
Standard rule: Mahapurusha Yoga requires the yogakaraka planet to be exalted OR in own sign, in a Kendra house.
If exalted + retrograde:
- Retrogression = Uchchabhanga (cancellation of exaltation benefit)
- Exalted + retrograde ≈ debilitated
- "The yoga is very very weak. Just because he is retrograde, in this particular case, the yoga is very, very weak."
If in own sign + retrograde:
- Own sign is NOT cancelled by retrogression
- Retrograde in own sign = still strong for Mahapurusha yoga purposes

Rule: Retrogression nullifies exaltation but NOT own sign. Mahapurusha yoga from own sign survives retrogression; from exaltation it does not.
Debilitation of Trine vs Kendra vs Dusthana Lords

Why trine lord debilitation is worst:
- Trine lord = planet that brings blessings from past karma WITHOUT effort
- If debilitated: "the one who is supposed to give you the blessings of past karma is unhappy. He wants to give, but his hands are tied. He is unable to."
Why dusthana lord debilitation is best:
- Dusthana lords create obstacles and resistance
- Debilitation = the obstacle-creator is weakened → fewer obstacles
- "Debilitation of 6th lord = obstacles are debilitated"
However: A debilitated trine lord is NOT bad in the sense of being malefic. "That planet is still good for you. It is just that the planet is not strong enough. The planet is already interested in helping you — it just cannot."
Solution for debilitated trine lord:
- Wear the planet's gemstone → strengthens it (this is valid since the planet is good for you but weak)
- Pray to the planet during its dasha or during strong transit → pick timing when planet is strong
- "The planet wants to help you. So manipulate the time when you pray — pick when the planet has strong transit (e.g., in exaltation in current sky) → results more likely"
