Malefics in the 12th from Ārūḍha Lagna — Rāja Yoga

• Parashara: Saturn or Rahu in the 12th from AL gives raja yoga.
• The 12th is the house of giving up. Rahu there: he seems to give up malice, tensions, anxieties. Saturn there: he seems to give up suffering and depression. The world thinks, "he is so happy."
• Benefics such as Mercury or Jupiter should instead be in the 2nd from AL, the food of the image.
• Jupiter or Sun in the 12th from AL: he seems to give up wisdom, to lose his kingdom. That is the opposite of raja yoga.
• PVNR's corrected statement in class: malefics in the 12th from AL, or benefics in the 1st or 2nd from AL, are good — "especially for Shani and Rahu, Parashara calls it a Raj Yoga."
• This is for a political leader. For a saint the results are the opposite.

Rahu and Ketu — What They Eclipse

Rahu

• Cancer is an inimical sign for Rahu, yet it is one of the few signs he loves. He wants to kill Moon, does not find him, and goes to Moon's house.

"It's like a thug who wants to kill a nice prince or priest and goes to his house. Yes, let him come. I will take care of him."

• In Cancer Rahu is fully alert and very effective.
• A student asked about Leo. Rahu is good there too: born in Simha lagna with Rahu in lagna, Rahu alone can give raja yoga, irrespective of other factors.
• Rahu likes Virgo, Leo and Cancer, all three. Cancer most, because he takes more pleasure in eclipsing Moon than Sun.
• Rahu is materialism, the giver of bhoga. He wants to eclipse the mind.

Ketu

• Ketu is the moksha planet. He wants to eclipse the soul, "so that your soul doesn't exist anymore — you are part of the Supreme Soul."
• So Rahu has an affinity to Moon and Ketu to Sun — affinity in the sense of obstructing him.
• A student pressed the point. PVNR: for moksha the mind is a small thing; the ātma has to vanish too. Even if you do not identify with bodily, material or mental pleasures, the thought "there is an ātma, I am a different person" remains. That self-identification is also no good for moksha.

"People think Rahu and Ketu are bad people, demons who want to destroy you, but they also are interested in something good. But that good may be bad in the short term, so you may not like it."

Servants, Followers and Advisers — Finding the People in a Chart

The Question

• A student compared Bush to Reagan, the "Teflon president": nothing sticks to him, his people take the damage. Can that be seen?
• PVNR takes the current year's chart and, because these are people at the workplace, its daśāṁśa. He makes the class reason it out: "If I say something, it may be right but you may not understand it. You have to think."

Servant, Follower or Adviser?

• Followers — people who like him and follow him: the 5th house.
• Servants — the White House staff, a spokesman who does what he is told: the 6th from Saturn. Servants are a 6th-house matter because they help you overcome obstacles and take your problems on themselves. The 6th from lagna is your own anxiety, so take it from the karaka Saturn.
• Advisers: a student proposed Jupiter and the 9th house of protection. PVNR asked: is advice a protection you enjoy or a resource you enjoy? A resource. So the 2nd house.
• A student proposed the 10th. PVNR: your 10th is the 9th from your 2nd — the work you do is the dharma of your advisers. They must see that you do the right work.
• A6 is the obstacles, not the advisers. A7 is everyone he meets.

Which Planet — the Planetary Cabinet

Take the 2nd from the planet that describes the adviser.

• Military advisers in trouble: 2nd from Mars. A legal adviser — one whose Supreme Court nomination was in trouble — 2nd from Jupiter.
• The men in trouble at the time, Karl Rove and Libby, are political advisers. Their advice is about how people will perceive a move, and about electoral calculation. That is lunar and mercurial, more lunar than solar.
• In the annual daśāṁśa Moon and Mercury are together in Libra, so Libra is the reference.

"To do precise astrology, you have to really understand who that person is, what the relationship is. Unless you understand, you will not identify that particular relationship in the chart. You have to have a lot of general knowledge also."

• PVNR grants that this is subtle, and that four people may pick four references: "one of us is right and others are wrong."

The Four Factors

"What is house? What is house lord? What is arudha of house? What is arudha of house lord? These four are the most important factors."

• Houses are inanimate. House lords have life force: "they are moving, thinking people."
• The advice, and whether it is listened to: ārūḍha of the 2nd house.
• The advisers themselves: ārūḍha of the 2nd lord (graha ārūḍha).
• The same for followers: A5 shows how much following there is; the ārūḍha of the 5th lord shows the people who follow.

Working It Out

• The 2nd from Libra is Scorpio. From the daśāṁśa lagna (Sagittarius) that is the 12th house, so the software's 12th-house ārūḍhas can be used.
• The class first took the bhava ārūḍha (A12 = UL, in Aquarius), then corrected itself: that is the advice, not the people.
• The graha ārūḍha of the 12th lord, L12, is in Scorpio. Take Scorpio as the lagna of the advisers.

The Advisers' Year, from Scorpio

• 12th (Libra): Moon and Jupiter, with Mercury. A strong 12th: imprisonment of some advisers is a strong possibility.
• 6th (Aries): Saturn, a malefic, debilitated. The 6th is litigation and court cases. They fight well, but they have a fight on their hands. Its lord Mars is in the 10th (Leo): their work this year goes into dealing with it.
• 9th (Cancer): Rahu. Scorpio is fixed, so this is the badhakasthana — a name suddenly comes out and the person is in big trouble. Rahu and Ketu are like karakas for badha: of all the grahas they alone cannot be seen. Rahu in the badhakasthana is worse.
• The 9th is also Rahu's marana karaka sthana, and Rahu owns the 4th from Scorpio (Aquarius). No sukha: the advisers have no peace of mind this year.
• But the planets in the 12th are Moon and Jupiter — the 9th lord and the 2nd lord from Scorpio, forming Gajakesari. Fortune and money joined. They become well known, even heroes.

"When 2nd lord and 9th lord are giving imprisonment, that imprisonment can give them a lot of benefits also. Even from the prison they may be writing books and make millions."

• Mercury there can show the books. Moon and Jupiter in the 12th are better than Mars, Rahu or Ketu there. "So don't pity them."
