The Example Chart

The recording opens after the native's Rasi and Dasamsa have already been read. What the class knows about him:

• Male, born 1976. Engineer (B.E., about 1993–97), working in the United States on a work visa; green card application filed and in process.
• Feels he is not recognised at work. Wants either an MBA or his own consulting business.
• Puts a lot of money in stocks, in India as well, and has gained. One stock bought at ₹34 stood at ₹800.
• Has a deformity in one leg from birth.
• First child, a son, born 28 April 2006, five weeks before the class.

Rasi placements used in this class

• Taurus lagna. Jupiter, the 8th and 11th lord, is in lagna.
• Venus, lord of lagna and of the 6th, is in Scorpio in the 7th.
• Sun (debilitated), Mars, Mercury and Rahu are in Libra in the 6th. Rahu is co-lord of the 10th (Aquarius).
• Saturn, the yogakaraka (9th and 10th lord), is in Cancer in the 3rd.
• Moon and Ketu are in Aries in the 12th.

Birth time

• Earlier in the class the time had been moved back a little from the Dasamsa. In this recording the Siddhamsa (D24) lagna is tested between Virgo and Leo, Leo is accepted, and the time is set "backward just enough so that it is on the border".
• The nakshatra dasha used for this chart is Dwisaptati Sama Dasha (lagna lord in the 7th), not Vimshottari. "Saturn dasha" and "Venus dasha" below are periods of that dasha.

Physical Disability — Dhatus and Body Parts

The deformity is from birth, somewhere in the leg. A student wants to open D6. The teacher goes to the Rasi chart:

"If there is a handicap, it's not at the subconscious level. It is at the physical level. So you should be able to see it in the Rasi."

Houses and planets to look at

• The leg is covered by the 9th, 10th and 11th houses. The 10th is the knee and calf area. The 11th is the lower part, the ankles.
• A student proposes checking how the 1st house (body) and the 9th (its dharma) coordinate. The teacher: "You are thinking well. You keep thinking."
• Health problems: Saturn is the karaka; the 6th and 8th houses show them.

Dhatus of the planets

The class stumbles over this (Jupiter as muscle, then Mars as muscle, then Mars as blood), so the teacher goes back to basics. These are the physical tissues that make up the body.

• Intelligence is not a tissue. Lungs are not a tissue either: they are made of muscle and the other dhatus.
• The common mistake: Mars taken as the karaka of muscles because a person with strong Mars looks muscular and strong.

"Saturn is the muscle. What is muscle? It just works hard for other things. Saturn is the muscle of the society."

Body part from the 8th lord and the 6th lord

A thumb rule the teacher passes on from his own teacher. "It works in many cases."

• 8th lord: take the sign he occupies and the body part of that sign in the natural zodiac. 8th lord in Aries — problems in the head or brain. 8th lord in Capricorn — the knees.
• 6th lord: the sign does not matter. Take the house he occupies from lagna and the body part of that house. 6th lord in Aries, with Aries the 10th house of the chart — the knees.

Applied to this chart:

• 8th lord Jupiter is in Taurus. Taurus is the face (a student adds the eyes).
• 6th lord Venus is in Scorpio, but Scorpio is not read. He is in the 7th house: sexual parts, kidneys.
• Neither points to the leg. The teacher says so plainly: the rule does not apply here.

What shows the leg

• The 10th house of knees is Aquarius. A student notes that its lord Saturn is in the 6th from it. The teacher: a lord in the 6th from his house is not the problem. The problem is the lord in marana karaka sthana, in the 6th house from lagna, with Sun and Mars. (Rahu, the other lord of Aquarius, is in the 9th from it — the marana karaka sthana of Rahu — and in the 6th from lagna.)
• Rahu, Mars, Sun and Mercury are together in the 6th house of sickness.
• Rahu is also the Gnati Karaka. "Gnati Karaka shows diseases, basically suffering that we have to go through from the soul level. This is the highest level of suffering."
• Sun is debilitated: a king who asks why he is here and not in his palace. He is with Mars, the commander of his army. Two warriors are fighting Rahu.

"If Mars or Sun were alone with Rahu, they would have been okay. Rahu would have fought. But if Mars and Sun are together with Rahu … Rahu is gone."

• So the trouble is in the knee and calf area — not the thighs, not the ankles — and it comes from Rahu afflicted by Mars and Sun.

Which tissue

• Sun is bones; a debilitated Sun in the 6th is bone weakness. Mars is the nervous system.
• So it is either nerves or bones, and bones are more likely. The Sun is debilitated and is unhappier with Rahu than Mars is; he is the one keen on destroying Rahu and is using Mars to do it.
• The teacher's reading: "there is some weakness in the bones, that is the reason for his deformity." The class did not know the medical detail.

D24 (Siddhamsa) — Lagna from the Bachelor's Degree, Timing of a Master's

Virgo or Leo

• The time had already been moved backward, so the class does not go forward. D24 shows Virgo lagna; 2 minutes 42 seconds later it would change again; 1 minute 47 seconds earlier it is Leo.
• Known event: B.E. in engineering, about 1993 to 1997, assuming no year was lost.
• That falls in Venus dasha of the nakshatra dasha and in Sagittarius Narayana Dasha of D24.

Nakshatra dasha. Engineering comes from Mars, not Venus. Venus is with Mars in D24 and gives Mars's result.

• Virgo lagna: Mars is the 8th lord in the 9th.
• Leo lagna: Mars is the 9th lord in the 10th — a bachelor's degree for a profession. More likely.

Narayana Dasha. Can Sagittarius give a formal bachelor's degree?

• Virgo lagna: Sagittarius is the 4th house. Its only link to the 9th is that its lord Jupiter has rasi drishti on the 9th house.
• Leo lagna: Sagittarius is the 5th house, blessings from past good karma. Jupiter has graha drishti on the 9th house and rasi drishti on the 9th lord. A9, the tangible bachelor's education, is in Gemini, and Sagittarius has rasi drishti on it.

Both can be argued. Leo makes more sense, and Leo is used.

Why the degree ended in Sagittarius

• Sagittarius is prishtodaya: it gives its own results in the last third. The education stopped in the last third (exact date not known).
• Sagittarius is the 7th from A9 — a maraka sthana for A9. That education ended.
• It is also the 7th house of desire from A9 and aspects it, so the course could continue and then end there.
• For the master's: it is seen from the 2nd house, and A2 is the tangible master's course. Sagittarius is the 8th from A2. A master's "may not even take off" in that dasha.

Master's degree: what kind, and when

Kind. A9 is in Gemini, the 9th house is Aries: a Mercury–Mars education. A2 is in a sign of Venus, with Venus in it: Venus dominates. Management is a strong possibility. Venus is with Mars there, so an MBA tuned to engineering management is the right course for him.

Strength. A2 shares its sign with UL and is not fortified.

Virgo dasha (running; he is at its end):

• Virgo is the 2nd house of master's education and has argala on A2. There is a chance.
• The first third (the sign) and the second third (aspects) are over. The last third gives the results of the lord.
• The lord Mercury is in the 6th house of obstacles with Sun and Saturn — a malefic here. The Sun is the lagna lord, afflicted in the 6th by the 6th lord Saturn: politics, obstacles. Mercury has rasi drishti on A2.
• "It's not really that favourable, but there is a chance."

After Virgo:

• Aries: 12th from A2 and 8th from the 2nd house. Not conducive at all.
• Scorpio (2009–2015): no drishti on A2 or the 2nd house, and it is the 7th from A2, a maraka sthana.

"If he wants to do MBA … the next two and a half years are the best period. After that, the chance is very little. He will lose interest. So if at all he wants to do, he should do now."

The annual D24 for 2006–07

• The 2nd house has Rahu and Ketu: not strong.
• The 2nd lord Mercury is in the 12th house of compromise.
• He may be seriously interested and finally let it go.
• The teacher's own judgment: he may not do the master's. Going independent may serve his career better.
