The Chart and the Question

Native: a student of the class, male, 60 years old at the reading (October 26, 2009).
Birth: June 13, 1949, 10:52:04 AM IST, 77°44'E, 8°43'N (South India).
Rasi lagna: Leo 5°59'. Saturn at 7°45' Leo.

The time was rectified earlier

• The horoscope the native holds says 10:55 AM. He asks whether the difference matters. "It matters."
• The Dasamsa lagna is on a border: one second later it changes from Virgo to Libra.
• An earlier class moved the time back from 10:55 to 10:52:04 so that the Dasamsa lagna is Virgo, right at its end (29°). Then Mercury is 10th lord in the 10th house, which explains the software career.
• The teacher does not rectify again. He keeps the earlier chart and gives a prognostication from it.
• The site casts this chart at 10:51:50. This engine crosses the Virgo/Libra border of the Dasamsa a few seconds before 10:52:04, so the class time itself would show Libra here. At 10:51:50 the rasi lagna reads Leo 5°57'.

The question

• Out of a job since February 23, 2009, after a period of instability and short contracts.
• He asks whether to keep looking for a job or start a business, and whether there is any hope.
• He also lists health complaints, a strained mortgage and damaged credit. The teacher takes one thing at a time and starts with career: "all have a root cause in the job."

Applicable Dashas

• Saturn is in the 1st house: lagna is at 5°59' Leo, Saturn at 7°45' Leo. For Leo lagna Saturn is the 7th lord.
• 7th lord in the 1st house → Dwisaptati Sama Dasha applies. (The transcript garbles the name in several ways; it is the 72-year dasha.)
• The other dasha is Vimshottari. No other conditional dasha applies.
• A student asks about the 10th lord: he is not in the 10th house. Another asks whether the lagna is Vargottama: 5°59' Leo is the second navamsa of Leo, which is Taurus (Leo's navamsas start from Aries). Not Vargottama.
• The conditional dasha is the one that "will throw more light, finer light."

Is Saturn's dasha good or bad for him?

In the Dasamsa (Virgo lagna):

• Saturn is the 5th and 6th lord, exalted in the 2nd house (Libra).
• He is with Venus, the 9th lord (and 2nd lord, in his own house), and with Sun, the 12th lord.
• "Venus-Saturn combination is fine. Sun is the problem there."

In the Rasi:

• Saturn is in lagna, which is his Marana Karaka Sthana. He is the 6th lord of diseases, illnesses and accidents. "His being in lagna is not really desirable."

Judgment: health can suffer, but career-wise the Saturn dasha "should be okay". So the trouble has to be found in the conditional dasha.

Maraka from the 6th house

A student says Venus becomes a maraka (2nd lord). The teacher:

• Venus is the 2nd lord in the 2nd house. He should also give resources.
• "More than the maraka for lagna, maraka for the 6th house is more important."

"6th house is service. So maraka from the 6th house shows death of the career, death of the job, change of job, or losing job."

Dwisaptati Sama — Sun Dasha and Raj Yoga Bhanga

The dasha is started from Moon. Each dasha is 9 years.

• Rahu dasha, 1993–2002: Rahu is the 6th lord in the 12th house of the Dasamsa (Rahu in Leo; he co-owns Aquarius). A dusthana lord in another dusthana gives Viparita Raja Yoga. "There is no problem with Rahu." The previous dasha was good.
• Sun dasha, 2002 to May 2011: running now.
• Moon dasha: starts May 2011, a year and a half after the reading.

Why Sun dasha is bad for career

All of this is read in the Dasamsa.

• Venus and Saturn together in Libra, the 2nd house: 9th lord and 5th lord together, "one in Moolatrikona, one in exaltation sign." A very good yoga.
• Sun is with them. He is the 12th lord, and debilitated.

"He is spoiling the party. He is the 12th lord. 12th lord is spoiling the party there. Had he not been there, it is good."

• He is the lord of the house of losses, placed in the house of resources. He depletes the resources.
• He is also a natural enemy of both Venus and Saturn, apart from the lordships.
• "5th and 9th are one agenda, 12th lord is another agenda. His agenda is different and his style is different."
• The 12th lord's agenda: compromises, losses, a fall, disappointments.

Why the trouble did not begin in 2002

A student asks why the bad results started only now. The teacher: it need not start with the dasha itself. It may need a particular antardasha to trigger it. He guesses there were career problems before this year. The native confirms: problems since 2006, six jobs in the last three years, one job and then unemployed, again and again.

Antardashas in Sun dasha

Jupiter — the trigger (end of 2006, 2007, into 2008)

• In the Dasamsa Jupiter is in Scorpio, the 3rd house: his Marana Karaka Sthana.
• He is the 7th lord (Pisces), so he is the Badhakesha for Virgo lagna.
• The 7th house is the 2nd from the 6th house of service. Jupiter is the maraka lord from the 6th.
• "If somebody is in own business, he is fine. But if somebody is working, Jupiter shows end of job."
• In the Rasi he is the 8th lord in the 6th house of service. His 5th aspect (graha dṛṣṭi) falls on the 10th house, Taurus. The 8th lord influencing the 10th shows ups and downs in the career. (The teacher also says "7th aspect on 8th house". The chart does not show that: the 7th from Capricorn is Cancer, the 12th from Leo lagna.)
• "You cannot say things from Rasi alone." The Dasamsa confirms it.

Venus and Saturn — the yoga breaks

• They are well placed, but they are the ones troubled by Sun.
• In their antardashas Sun says: "This is what you wanted to give. I told you not to. Now I am the boss, listen to me."

"There is a Raj yoga given by Venus and Saturn, but being a dusthana lord with them, he gives Raj yoga bhanga, Sun."

• What Jupiter's antardasha triggered continues through Venus and Saturn. "In the Saturn antardasha I don't have any hope."

Rahu — a little hope

• Against: Sun is the 12th lord and Rahu is in the 12th house. Both accentuate 12th-house results. Sun and Rahu are enemies.
• Rahu as 6th lord may want to give service, but he cannot fight Sun in Sun's mahadasha. "Sun is like a king." Rahu has to find common ground with Sun, and that common ground is the 12th house: more losses, more compromises.
• For: Rahu gives Viparita Raja Yoga. And counted from Sun (the dasha lord, in Libra), Rahu is the 5th lord in the 11th house. A good combination.
• The teacher checks the longitudes first: Sun 17° Libra, Rahu 26° Leo. Rahu stays in the 11th from Sun; he does not slip into the previous house.
• "There isn't a lot of hope, but there is some hope in the Rahu antardasha." How far Sun cooperates is the limit.

Sun's debility is a blessing

A student asks whether Sun's debility changes anything.

• A Kendra or Kona lord together with the 8th or 12th lord is a duryoga.
• When dusthana lords join a Raj yoga it is bad for that Raj yoga. If they are strong it works as a Raj Yoga Bhanga in full.
• Here Sun is weak. "Had he been exalted, it would have been much worse."
• "He may say it is bad, but it could have been much worse if Sun was strong."

Moon Dasha (from May 2011) and the Business Question

Moon in the Dasamsa: 11th lord in the 12th house

• Moon looks as if he is in lagna (Virgo), but he is at 12° Virgo and the lagna is at 29° Virgo. He is in the 12th house from lagna.
• He is the 11th lord (Cancer).
• A student calls the 11th lord a functional malefic. The teacher turns to agenda instead.

"Where he is is immaterial, is secondary. Agenda is based on what he wants. He wants 11th, gains."

• Placed in the 12th, he uses what the 12th house offers to give gains. The 12th is spending and giving away, not only losing. So: investment, taking part in a venture.
• "It's not rosy." The 11th lord in the 10th or the 2nd would have been smooth. In a dusthana there is effort. But it is more conducive to good results than the present dasha.
• A student notes that by the same degree rule Rahu also falls a house earlier from lagna. The teacher agrees, and says Rahu's 11th-house placement was counted from Sun.

Job or business?

• Until May 2011, in Sun dasha: no business. Sun is in the 2nd house but has nothing to do with the 3rd, the 7th or their ārūḍhas. The 12th can show investment, not necessarily business.
• Moon is the 11th lord, the lord of A7 (business), and in the same sign as A3. He is tied to the Kama Trikona. "Even if the A3 calculation is wrong", he is lord of A7 and the 11th lord. (By hand from the cast Dasamsa: A7 is Cancer, A3 is Virgo.)
• So business has some chance in Moon dasha, not in Sun dasha.

"Don't do anything hasty now. Just hang on to whatever money you have, because if you start business, you may actually burn your hands."

• Later the native speaks of working until 62. The teacher corrects him: "We are not saying that Moon will give you a job. He may give you an opportunity to invest and do some kind of business."

Going abroad

• A student asks whether the 12th lord means he should try in a distant land. He is already abroad: the 12th is foreign land counted from the birthplace.
• A Raj yoga with the 12th lord involved generally means the person flourishes abroad. The teacher would not advise him to go elsewhere now and try.

Moon in the Rasi

• Moon is the 12th lord in the 5th house. A student fears this. The teacher: "12th house is not an evil house, it is a neutral house."
• As 12th lord he gives expenses or investments. In the 5th house of Pūrva Puṇya, they are tied to pūrva puṇya. It does not look like a misfortune.
• Planets in the 5th do not mess up a life.
• Moon is in the 2nd from Ārūḍha Lagna. Planets there give some financial resources. (AL works out to Scorpio; Moon is in Sagittarius.)
• No Raj yoga, no sudden riches, no lottery or inheritance: the 5th and 8th are the houses for that, and Moon is only the 12th lord in the 5th. "He will work hard and he will make more progress than he is making right now."

Speculation

• The native says he lost everything he put into a stock.
• In the Hora chart Sun, the lagna lord, is debilitated in the 3rd house, with no link to the 5th or 8th. No great gains from speculation. (This is the Hora chart of the class software. The site's D-2 uses a different scheme and does not show these placements.)
