Relocation Case (Boston → North Carolina) — D4 A4 Mercury Exalted, D10 Dhimant Yoga, TP Career Window & Saturn-Jupiter Dasha

Question: his wife's company is moving from the Boston area to North Carolina. She must move or leave the company. Should he move too, or stay and have her quit? Is a displacement shown? How will his own career go if he moves?
Dasha: Vimshottari; no conditional dasha applies. Saturn mahadasha since 1990, at its end. Saturn–Jupiter antardasha began in January. Mercury mahadasha runs 2009–2026.

The site's chart differs in two places. Mars is at 10°01' Leo and Jupiter at 24°01' Cancer in the site's chart, each one minute past a division border. The teacher's software had both just under the border. So the class has Mars in Gemini in D-9 (site: Cancer) and Jupiter in Libra with Ketu in D-10 (site: Scorpio). The notes below follow the class.

Method — Bhoga of an Antardasha

• Count from the dasha lord to the antardasha lord.
• Count the same number again from the antardasha lord.
• The house where it lands is the bhoga: what is experienced on the ground in that antardasha.

Navamsa (D-9) — the Wife's Career

• The wife is read from L7, the arudha of the 7th lord, taken as lagna. In the class chart L7 is in Aquarius. (D-9 lagna Libra, 7th Aries, lord Mars in Gemini; Gemini to Aries is 11, the 11th from Aries is Aquarius. The site's D-9 has Mars in Cancer, which would put L7 in Capricorn.)
• A student calls Jupiter a maraka. The teacher: the question is career. And the dasha lord Saturn is the lagna lord from L7, placed in the 3rd (Aries).

"Lagna lord can never kill. He is basically the guy who is in charge of your body. So he will not desert you."

• Moon is the 6th lord in the 10th from L7 (Scorpio) → a service chart.
• Jupiter (antardasha): 2nd and 11th lord from L7, in L7 itself. Wealth and gains. No sign of sudden loss of job or a struggle to find one.
• Bhoga of Saturn–Jupiter: Jupiter is 11th from Saturn; the 11th from Jupiter is Sagittarius, the 11th from L7. Gains.
• Mercury (next mahadasha) from L7: lord of the 5th and 8th. The 5th is a benefic house, the 8th is neutral (3, 6, 11 are the malefic houses; 2 and 8 are neutral) → functional benefic.
  • In the 2nd (Pisces) with Rahu, the lagna lord of Aquarius: lagna lord + 5th lord = Raja Yoga, between two friends, in the house of money.
  • The 2nd is one of the Artha trikonas (2, 6, 10) that matter for career, and Mercury is the karaka for service.
  • Dispositor of both 10th lords: the 10th from L7 is Scorpio; Mars (Gemini) and Ketu (Virgo) are in Mercury's signs.
  • Negatives: Mercury is debilitated. He is also the 8th lord with the lagna lord, a duryoga: some fall in position alongside the success. Which comes when is seen from the antardashas.
  • The 8th lord with the lagna lord, in the 2nd, speaks of health more than career. Mercury is a bigger maraka than Jupiter here. Some health trouble is possible for her in 2009–2026.
• Conclusion: her career will be fine. Whether she moves cannot be told from this navamsa; that is read from his Chaturthamsa.

After studying dark topics: when you study marakas, death, insanity, murder, sins, come out of it afterwards. Read a spiritual person's chart, do something nice.

Chaturthamsa (D-4) — Will He Move?

D-4 lagna Aquarius.

• Jupiter (antardasha) is the 2nd and 11th lord. 2nd neutral, 11th malefic → functional malefic. He is in the 3rd (Aries), his marana karaka sthana.
• In D-4 the 4th is the key house. The 3rd is the 12th from it: loss of the house, instability about it. A planet in the 3rd of D-4 can show a displacement.
• Bhoga: Saturn is in Cancer, Jupiter is 10th from him. The 10th from Jupiter is Capricorn, the 12th house → moving to a faraway place, not staying happy where he is.
• A4, the tangible house, is in Leo. From A4, Jupiter owns the 8th (instability) and sits in the 9th, the bādhaka sthāna from a fixed sign. Selling the house, moving, or trouble with the house are all possible.
• Even if he does not move now, some problem will come up with the present house. A very strong likelihood.
• Jupiter shows change, not unhappiness. And it is a passing antardasha.

Mercury mahadasha (17 years from 2009)

• Functional benefic for Aquarius lagna, in the 8th in Virgo: 8th lord in the 8th, exalted.
• Sarala Yoga = 8th lord in the 8th. (Vimala = 12th lord in the 12th. Harsha = 6th lord in the 6th.)
• An exalted planet in own house → a very happy state of mind about the house.
• From A4 Mercury is exalted in the 2nd.

"Parasara only says if Mercury is in the 2nd house from Arudha lagna, the person will be a king. Here we are not talking about a person, we are talking about A4. So basically that house is like a king."

• Mercury in the 2nd from any arudha gives Raja Yoga for that arudha, more so when exalted. He will have a big, good house and be happy in it.
• Saturn is in the 12th from A4. Saturn in the 12th from any arudha is good for that arudha. In the 2nd he would have been bad.
• A student points to mixed influences from other arudhas (A8, A9, A3). The teacher: they can be studied, but A4 decides this question.

From Arudha Lagna (his image as to house and property)

• Mercury is in the 11th from AL, exalted. (AL of D-4 is Scorpio.)
• Jupiter, a natural benefic, is in the 6th from AL.

"If 6th house from Arudha Lagna has a natural benefic, the person is seen as somebody who is losing something."

• A move made in Jupiter's antardasha may look like a loss to some people. When Mercury's turn comes, he is very well placed.

Advice

"So this will be a good move. There may be a couple of years of relative instability, but after that, the next 17 years will be good."

He can go to North Carolina and need not ask his wife to quit.

Dasamsa (D-10) — His Career

D-10 lagna Aquarius. Class chart: Jupiter with Ketu in Libra, the 9th. (Site: Jupiter in Scorpio, the 10th.)

Saturn–Jupiter

• Saturn, the lagna lord, is in the 4th (Taurus). Not a great planet here, no big Raja Yoga, but fine.
• Bhoga: Jupiter is 6th from Saturn; the 6th from Jupiter is Pisces = the 2nd house, and the 11th from AL (AL of D-10 is Taurus). Financially a good antardasha.
• Jupiter is in the bādhaka sthāna (9th, lagna being fixed) → a change of job is possible in his antardasha. Money will not suffer from it.
• From AL, Jupiter is a benefic in the 6th. Not a sign of a big raise by itself.
• A student notes Jupiter is with Ketu and gives Ketu's results. Ketu is the 10th lord (Scorpio) in the 9th. The 10th lord in a trine is a blessing for career. Ketu is also a malefic in the 6th from AL, which is good.
• → The next two years are no cause for concern. He will get a good offer and be able to move.

Mercury mahadasha

• A change of mahadasha usually triggers big events: one phase ends, another starts.
• Mercury is the 5th and 8th lord in the 6th (Cancer).
• 8th lord in the 6th = Viparita Yoga.
• 5th lord in the 6th = Dhimanta Yoga. The 5th is one's abilities; the 6th is working hard, serving, getting over obstacles, fixing problems. He puts his abilities to work on 6th-house matters.

"So it will not be a cakewalk, but he will use his intelligence nicely to fix the problems. So he will be working hard and he will be very productive."

• Mercury is associated with A7 and A3 (both fall in Gemini, his sign). A3 = ventures, A7 = partnerships. His own company? Not likely: the 7th is not strong, the 6th is, and Mercury is in the 6th. Contract work or self-employment is possible. So is work with travel and constant dealing with people, as against sitting alone in a cubicle.

Mercury in Īśāna aṁśa; 3rd from AL

• Mercury is in Īśāna aṁśa in D-10 and is the 8th lord (occult matters).
• From AL he is in the 3rd. He is a natural benefic here, with no planet afflicting him.
• Rule: a natural benefic in the 3rd or 6th from Arudha Lagna gives the image of a saint or the image of a loser. Not the image of one who pushes hard and gets what he wants.
• Two outcomes: not getting what he wants at the workplace, or voluntary work and a saintly image.
• D-10 is not only the formal career. It is all the work one does in society.
• Īśa = religious work. Voluntary work with a temple or a religious organisation in that period. Do more of this and the other outcome, losing things at work, is averted.

No red flags for the long term.

Tithi Praveśa 2006–07 — the Short Term

Year began September 7, 2006, 7:07:18 AM IST, at the birthplace.

• Hora lord, the ruler of the year: Mars.
• Rasi: Virgo lagna. Mars is the 3rd and 8th lord, in the lagna. This is the irritability of this year.
• D-10: Cancer lagna. The Moon, lagna lord, is exalted in Taurus with Ketu, a 5th lord (Scorpio). Lagna lord + 5th lord = Raja Yoga, but with a bitter enemy who eclipses him, and in the bādhaka sthāna (11th from a movable lagna).
• Reading: lagna and 5th give a new beginning. A good new start in career is likely. Because of Ketu there is some negative angle that cannot be pinned down. The Moon is the mind, so it may be his attitude to the job and not the job itself.
• April 13 – June 1 (the Moon's period, going by the order of the periods; Mars follows in June) is very favourable for a new beginning in career.
• A9 is with A8, in the same sign as these two planets. A9 = the tangible thing that makes people think you are lucky. A8 can be read as mrityu pada, fortune destroyed; but the planets there are the lagna lord and a 5th lord, so they bring out the positive: something sudden in fortune.
• Do not wait for it. Send the resume and look for a job there. Something good will come up suddenly.
• After that come the periods of Mars and then Mercury, who is the 3rd and 12th lord in the 10th of D-10. No period of the year gives concern.

Tithi Praveśa 2007–08 — the Next Year

The moment of this chart is not read out; the placements below are the teacher's statements, unverified.

• Saturn, 10th lord of the rasi chart and ruler of the year, is in the 2nd of D-10, an Artha trikona, in a friendly Mercurial sign.
• D-10: the 10th lord Venus is with the lagna lord Sun in the 4th, which is the Arudha Lagna → a royal image. Administrative, managerial or leadership responsibility is likely.
• The Sun is also the 5th lord of the rasi chart (recognition) and very strong.
• A5 holds Saturn; its lord Mercury aspects it; Jupiter has argala on it. Not great, some good influences.
• Jupiter is in the 5th in own sign, his moolatrikona, with Ketu the 4th lord. 4th and 5th lords together in the 5th = Raja Yoga.
• Jupiter's period, September 26 – December 2: excellent. He will be a few months into the new job and will still impress people.
• Venus's period, January 15 – March 29: Venus is retrograde and combust. Neither is good. Retrogression = a strong desire, an agenda the planet may fail to fulfil, some desperation. Combustion = being sidelined, by managers or by politics. Sun and Venus may not exchange results.
• Sun's period, March 29 – April 19: excellent. A position of authority.
• Navamsa of that year: 8th lord in the 7th, Venus in the 8th, lagna afflicted by Sun and Ketu → career fine, but some quarrels and disharmony in married life.
• The practical tensions of leaving a familiar place and the fear of the unknown last till about his birthday. Then things fall into place.

Remedies

• Stress and irritability this year, most of all around June when Mars's period comes: pray to Narasimha. Mars is in a Mercurial sign, so the Vishnu avatara of Mars is preferred to Hanuman or Subrahmanya.
• Palana devata (a student's suggestion, for a time when livelihood and residence are changing): Amatyakaraka Saturn is in Aries in the navamsa. The 6th from him is Virgo, occupied by Ketu, so take the planet and not the lord. Ketu = Ganesha. Mahaganapati homam and a Ganapati mantra every day for the next six or seven months, to control anger and make the changes smoother.
• For career (a student's suggestion, accepted): the 5th lord in D-10 is Mercury. The Jyotirlinga for Mercury is Mallikarjuna at Srisailam. Mantra: Om Namah Shivaya Namo Mallikarjunaya, before a picture of the lingam.
