What Shows at the Year, the Month and 2.5 Days

Seen in both the D24 and the D7 example:

Why: each chart shows what the consciousness is filled with during that period.

• Looking back at the month or the year of the son's birth, the mind is filled with the sense of blessing — which is what the 5th and 9th houses show.
• On the day itself the mind is on practical things: the wife in pain, when to leave for the hospital, whether to take leave from work. There is "so much other noise in a short period".
• In 1987 the news came at the very end of the 2.5 days and had not sunk in; in the month both the state rank and the IIT selection happened, a big high.
• A student objects that the event must have been "cooked" before. True, the teacher says, but that cannot be looked at. Judge from when the news reaches you, when the marriage takes place, when the child is born.

"In the annual chart things are shown well, in the month chart things are shown even better, but in the pratyantardasha chart it may not be shown that well."

"When you go to deeper, shorter periods, really trivial events take up your mind space, so they are shown much better. But when you go to longer periods, long-term events take up your mind space and they show up better there."

Examples of events specific to a short period are promised for a later class.

D24 Siddhamsa — State First and IIT Selection (May 1987)

The chart and the event

Software: the teacher uses his own data with JHora 7.52 beta and Surya Siddhanta. SC Dasha does not need a finely rectified time — it holds as long as the lagna of the divisional chart is right, a leeway of about 10 minutes.

The class is worked with Surya Siddhanta longitudes. The site's chart puts the natal D24 Moon in Gemini; the teacher's software has it in Cancer (the Moon is within 1.5° of the end of Aquarius). Natal D24 Lagna (Gemini) and Sun (Scorpio), and the natal D10 and D7 Lagna, Moon and Sun, agree with the class. The pravesha charts below are as the teacher read them from his software.

Event: 28 May 1987 — stood state first with a record score in the Intermediate (12th grade) examinations. A couple of days later, selected for the B.Tech programme at IIT Madras.

Natal D24: Lagna Gemini, Moon Cancer, Sun Scorpio. The dashas start from these and move one sign a year.

Year from 5 April 1987: Scorpio (Lagna), Sagittarius (Moon), Aries (Sun). The year must show success, recognition and fame through education: look at the 5th house, the lagna and the 4th.

The year — Dasha Pravesha Chakra

From Scorpio (progressed Lagna):

• 5th lord Jupiter is exalted in the 9th house and aspects the 5th, his own sign. From Lagna the 9th is a benefic position for Jupiter in Ashtakavarga.

"A planet exalted aspecting his own sign — awesome."

• Saturn, the 4th lord, is in the 5th house: the house of education joined to the house of recognition. But in the 5th from Lagna only Jupiter and Venus are benefic. Saturn is ill placed, so this yoga is ignored. Had Jupiter been weak the 5th would have been judged from Saturn, and found wanting.
• Lagna lord Mars and 10th lord Sun are together in lagna — a Raj Yoga. Mars is in own sign and benefic in the 1st from Lagna; Sun is in a friendly sign but not benefic there.
• Lagna and 5th house are both strengthened.

From Sagittarius (progressed Moon):

• 8th lord Moon is in the lagna. Normally a poor placement, but Moon is benefic in the 1st from Moon: a sudden good event.
• Lagna lord Jupiter is in the 8th, ill placed in Ashtakavarga, but exalted. The two compensate.
• 5th lord Mars is in own sign, with 9th lord Sun. Neither is benefic in Ashtakavarga from Moon.
• The 1st and 5th houses are involved in yogas, but Ashtakavarga does not add to them.

From Aries (progressed Sun):

• Lagna lord Mars and 5th lord Sun are together in the 8th house — a Raj Yoga, in a sign friendly to the Sun.
• Sun is benefic in the 8th from Sun; Mars is not. The 5th lord, though in the 8th, is benefic, so he gives 5th-house results — and being in the 8th, something sudden and unexpected. Exalted or in Moolatrikona he would have been better still.
• Jupiter is exalted in the 4th house of education, and well placed there from Sun.

Reading: in the lagna, 5th and 4th from the three references there are yogas, an exalted planet or a planet in own sign, and several of them are benefic in Ashtakavarga. A good year; with the 5th house prominent it can show academic distinction.

The month — 2nd antardasha, 5 May to 6 June 1987

• In the Dasha Pravesha Chakra: Lagna in Virgo, Moon in Sagittarius, Sun in Scorpio.
• 2nd from each: Libra (Lagna), Capricorn (Moon), Sagittarius (Sun).
• In the Antardasha Pravesha Chakra: Mars in Pisces; Saturn and Mercury in Aquarius; Venus and Jupiter in Capricorn; Moon in Leo; Sun in Sagittarius.

From Libra:

• 5th lord Saturn is in the 5th house, in Moolatrikona, with 9th lord Mercury. Neither is benefic in Ashtakavarga, but Moolatrikona trumps that.
• 10th lord Moon is in the 11th, where Moon is benefic from Lagna. The 5th, 9th and 10th lords are on one axis — a Raj Yoga on the 5th-house axis, stronger than the yoga in the annual chart.
• Lagna has no occupant. It is aspected by Mars (8th aspect) from the 6th house, and the 6th is a good place for Mars from Lagna.
• Lagna lord Venus is in a kendra with Jupiter — poor company, but both are benefic in Ashtakavarga.
• Lagna is strong and the 5th has fine yogas.

From Capricorn:

• 5th lord Venus is in the lagna, in adhimitra rasi, benefic in Ashtakavarga — but spoiled by Jupiter's company.
• Lagna lord Saturn is not benefic but is in Moolatrikona, with 9th lord Mercury, who is benefic.
• Lagna and 5th house are both quite strong.

From Sagittarius:

• 9th lord Sun is in the lagna, in adhimitra rasi, and the 1st from Sun is benefic for Sun: blessings.
• Lagna lord Jupiter is debilitated but benefic, which partly makes up for it.
• The 5th house is unoccupied. 5th lord Mars is in a kendra and in adhimitra rasi, but the 4th from Sun is not benefic for Mars. On the lord alone the house is neutral.
• Saturn in Moolatrikona aspects the 5th house by his 3rd aspect. That makes the 5th strong.

Reading: from all three references the 5th house has either a planet in Moolatrikona or a planet giving a good yoga. The Antardasha Pravesha Chakra is powerful.

The 2.5 days — 9th pratyantardasha, evening of 26 May to morning of 29 May

• In the Antardasha Pravesha Chakra: Lagna in Scorpio, Moon in Leo, Sun in Sagittarius.
• 9th from each: Cancer (Lagna), Aries (Moon), Leo (Sun). (The software lists the pratyantardashas differently; they are recomputed by hand.)

From Cancer:

• 4th lord Venus is in the 4th house in Moolatrikona and benefic. The 4th — education, happiness — is very strong.
• 9th lord Jupiter is in the 10th, opposite the 4th lord; both benefic in Ashtakavarga. A Raj Yoga of the 9th and 4th: fortune through education.
• 9th lord Jupiter in the 10th and 10th lord Mars in the 9th: a full parivartana, a Dharma-Karmadhipati Yoga. (Often "parivartana" is said when the 9th lord sits in the 10th lord's other sign; here it is exact.)
• Sun and Mars are in the 9th: ill placed in Ashtakavarga, but both in adhimitra rasi — not bad.
• Saturn in own sign aspects the lagna; not benefic.
• The 5th house has no full aspect, only Jupiter's three-quarter aspect. Jupiter is also the dispositor of the 5th lord Mars, so he links the Raj Yogas to the 5th.

From Aries:

• Hardly any planet is benefic in Ashtakavarga. Only Moon, in the 3rd from Moon.
• 9th lord Jupiter in lagna, 5th lord Sun and lagna lord Mars in the 12th: all three trine lords are in adhimitra rasi, and the 5th lord joins the lagna lord.
• The 3rd lord is in the 3rd house, with the Moon. The 10th lord is in the 10th.

From Leo:

• 5th lord Jupiter is in the 9th; lagna lord Sun and 9th lord Mars are together. All in adhimitra rasi. Sun and Jupiter are well placed in Ashtakavarga.
• Jupiter aspects the lagna. Mercury and Moon aspect the 5th from the 11th, both well placed, Mercury in own sign.
• The 3rd lord is in the 3rd. The 10th lord is in Moolatrikona.

What stands out: the 3rd house (its lord in own sign from all three references) and the 10th. The 3rd is communication and being charged up; the 10th is activity in society.

• The result was announced on the 7 o'clock evening radio news; people of the town came to congratulate him that night. He had been home all summer and had met five or six people; that day he met many.
• The 5th and 9th are in Raj Yogas too, but the stress is on the 3rd and 10th.

Comparison: the monthly chart showed the event much better than the annual chart, with cleaner combinations; the pratyantardasha chart showed it less well than either (see Part 5).
