AS Chart — Three-Parts Rule: Leo Dasha Recap & Virgo Dasha (2006–2015)
Leo Dasha (1998–2006) recap with Three-Parts Rule: Leo = Sirshodaya sign → results in first 1/3. Saturn (planet in/aspecting Leo) gets middle 1/3 — for malefics, the 4-quarter order is: Avastha → Yogas → Owned houses → Occupied house. Sun (lord of Leo, in Sagittarius Prishtodaya) gets last 1/3. Virgo Dasha analysis (January 2006 – January 2015): Virgo = Prishtodaya sign → sign results last. Mercury (lord of Virgo) in Sagittarius. UL analysis for marriage: Upada Lagna indicators for when marriage bond forms. Events confirmed through quarter assignments.
"They don't care whether the house they're in is being taken care of. They care about: are they happy or sad? That is their first priority."

Recap — Leo Dasha Analysis (1998–2006)
Slot Assignments for Leo Dasha
- Leo = Sirshodaya sign → results given in first 1/3 (1998 Jan – 2000 Sep)
- Planets in/aspecting Leo (Saturn only) → results given in middle 1/3 (2000 Sep – 2003 May)
- Lord Sun in Sagittarius (Prishtodaya) → results given in last 1/3 (2003 May – 2006 Jan)
Middle 1/3 — Saturn's 4 Quarters (2000 Sep to 2003 May)
Saturn is in Leo in the natal chart. He is a malefic planet (natural malefic). For malefics, the 4-quarter order is: 1) Avastha → 2) Yogas → 3) Owned houses → 4) Occupied house.
Saturn's Situation:
- Sign: Leo = Adhishatru (worst enemy's house for Saturn) — extremely uncomfortable
- Retrograde: When a planet is retrograde, it brings strong karma from a past life; it requires great effort. The person must work very hard in this area.
- Avasthas (state):
- Age-based: Mritavastha (dead) — gives no results on its own
- Alertness: Swapna (dreaming) — only 50% results
- Mood: Dina (sad) — unhappy in this sign
- So Saturn's avastha overall is very poor — worst enemy's sign + dead + sad
Q1 — Avastha period (2000 Sep – 2001 May): Saturn is in Adhishatru's house, retrograde, Mritavastha, sad. He will give his worst results. In D-24 (Siddhamsa/chart of learning), Saturn occupies the 5th house (house of abilities). He will destroy the ability of this person to apply himself to learning. No good results possible. Retrograde adds the flavor of strong past-life karma — the person will put in tremendous effort but the effort is misdirected or fruitless during this sub-period.
Q2 — Yogas period (2001 May – 2002 Jan): Saturn forms a Chandra-Shani yoga (Moon + Saturn conjunction/aspect). This yoga, if supported by other combinations, gives sanyasa results — disinterestedness in worldly life, giving up material things, renunciation-like behavior. Saturn dominates and clouds the Moon's mind. Result: the person goes into depression and/or spiritual confusion; disinterest in studies, relationships, activities.
Q3 — Owned Houses period (2002 Jan – 2002 Sep): Saturn owns the 10th and 11th houses (Capricorn and Aquarius). He is placed in the 5th house. So: 10th lord and 11th lord placed in the 5th house. This is a relatively better period — some connection between karma (10H) and abilities (5H). Also, Saturn is Badhaka lord (11H = Badhakasthana for Aries lagna), and Badhaka in the 5th can push the person away from their natural setting (perhaps foreign travel or spiritual retreat). This is the only sub-period of Leo dasha with any positive potential.
Q4 — Occupied House (5th) period (2002 Sep – 2003 May): Saturn is in the 5th house and will now give the direct results of destroying the 5th house of abilities, intelligence, and creativity. The person's capacity to apply himself to learning is undermined at its root. This is when the deepest damage to education occurs — dropping out of college (confirmed: he dropped out end of 1998/beginning 1999; the effects were building from Leo dasha start and reached full force in this period).
Last 1/3 — Sun's 4 Quarters (2003 May – 2006 Jan)
Sun is the Atmakaraka (AK) and is in Sagittarius (9th house). Sagittarius = Prishtodaya sign. Being in a friendly sign (Jupiter's sign; Jupiter is in Cancer = compound friendship with Sun). Sun is in Nrityalipsa Avastha (very energetic, desirous of dancing — full of energy and desire to do things). However, Sun is somewhat close to his debilitation point (Libra = debilitation for Sun; he is in Sagittarius which is distant, but Uchcha Bala is moderate). Sun is a malefic (natural malefic). Order of quarters for malefic: avastha → yogas → owned houses → occupied house.
Q1 — Avastha period (2003 May – 2004 Jan): Sun is in a friendly sign (Jupiter's) and aspected by Jupiter. He is also in Nrityalipsa (very energetic). So avastha is relatively good. Result: a relatively fine period. Not outstanding, but the person will be functional, energetic.
Q2 — Yogas period (2004 Jan – 2004 Sep): Critical yoga: Sun + Venus are within ~1.5 degrees of each other = combustion. Sun combusts Venus (7th lord). This directly destroys 7H matters (relationships, partnerships). This is also a Raja Yoga on paper (5th lord Sun + 7th lord Venus), but they are enemies and Venus is combust — so the yoga shows some connection between abilities (5H) and relationships (7H) but Venus cannot deliver fully because she is burned. Result: falling in love (5H emotions + 7H relationship) with someone but the relationship has problems; heartbreak is possible. Also Sun-Mercury are close → some Budha-Aditya yoga but not very strong.
Q3 — Owned Houses (5th house — Sun is 5th lord) period (2004 Sep – 2005 May): Sun owns the 5th house. When Sun gives the results of his lordship over the 5th house, abilities shine, recognition comes, this is a good period for the person to apply himself. This is the period to focus on education and career decisions. (Note: Sankha yoga = 5th lord and 6th lord combined — abilities + obstacles together.)
Q4 — Occupied House (9th house) period (2005 May onwards): Sun is in the 9th house. 9th house = dharma, father's guidance, fortune. When Sun gives the results of the 9th house, the person will follow dharma, follow the wishes of parents, listen to elders, get his thinking straightened out. If there's any parent or elder who can sit down and tell this person "now is the time to focus," after May 2005 he will actually listen and act. This is the most stabilizing sub-period.
— PVNRRule: If the Sun is in the 9th house, the person will follow parents' orders/wishes when Sun gives its results.
Feedback from Native (Confirmed)
- Valedictorian in high school; did well first 2 years at Brandeis
- Dropped out ~1998-1999; went into seclusion, spiritual confusion, meditation
- No regular activities; cut off from social life; concerns his mother
- Pattern: consistent with Chandra-Shani yoga + Saturn's destruction of 5th house + Leo dasha activating all these during middle 1/3
UL Analysis for Marriage (brief)
UL (Upapada Lagna) in Gemini with Jupiter in Cancer aspecting it. Mercury-Jupiter Parivartana → Jupiter acts somewhat like Mercury in UL → good for marriage through Jupiter or Mercury dashas. Venus will NOT give a good marriage because she is combust (within 1.5° of Sun). This is important: combustion of 7th lord or the karaka Venus has a direct negative impact on relationship-giving ability.
Ketu in 3rd house (from AL/Virgo perspective = Ketu is in 5th from AL = not 7H). But taking Virgo dasha sign as lagna during the Virgo dasha: Ketu falls in the 7th. This means during the Virgo dasha, Ketu's agenda for marriage will be active.
Ketu in 7H — What It Means for Marriage
- Ketu's natural agenda is moksha, liberation, giving up sensual pleasures
- In the 7th house, Ketu does not prevent marriage entirely — especially if done as a duty (arranged marriage, continuation of family lineage)
- Ketu will put brakes on: marriage for sensual pleasure, passionate romantic love, falling in love
- Ketu may allow: marriage as duty (for children, for family growth, as karma to fulfill)
- Whether he succeeds in blocking depends on: strength of Venus (7th karaka), strength of 7th lord
- Here: 7th lord Jupiter is well placed in a quadrant from Virgo dasha lagna, and Jupiter has both argala and aspect on the 7th house → so marriage is NOT blocked, but there will be friction related to relationships during Ketu's sub-period
- Final conclusion: This person may get married during Virgo dasha, but some friction relating to relationships will exist especially when Ketu gives its results
Virgo Dasha Analysis — 3-Parts Rule (2006 Jan – 2015 Jan)
Slot Assignments for Virgo Dasha
- Virgo = Sirshodaya sign → results in first 1/3 (2006 Jan – 2009 Jan)
- Planets aspecting/in Virgo (6 planets: Rahu from Sagittarius, Venus, Sun, Mercury, Ketu, Jupiter — all via Rasi drishti from dual signs) → results in middle 1/3 (2009 Jan – 2012 Jan)
- Lord Mercury in Sagittarius (Prishtodaya) → results in last 1/3 (2012 Jan – 2015 Jan)
Standard ND Analysis: Take Virgo as Progressed Lagna
The first step is always to take the Narayana dasha sign as the Ascendant/Lagna and evaluate all planets from this vantage point:
| Planet | House from Virgo | Nature | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rahu | 1H (Virgo) | Malefic | Bad for health when Rahu's sub-period comes; Rahu in Lagna of dasha = mental/physical stress |
| Ketu | 7H | Malefic | 3rd from AL → problematic for relationships |
| Saturn | 12H | Malefic | Bad (for malefics, 12th from dasha sign is bad; only 3/6/11 are good for malefics) |
| Moon | 6H | Natural Benefic (waxing) | Bad (for benefics, 6th from dasha sign is bad; benefics need kendras/trines) |
| Mars | 11H | Malefic | Good (malefic in 11H = good) |
| Jupiter | 10H | Benefic | Good (benefic in kendra = excellent) |
| Venus, Sun, Mercury | 4H (all in Sagittarius) | Mix | 4th/10th axis very strong |
— PVNRRule: For benefics in Narayana Dasha, well-placed = in kendras or trines from the dasha sign. For malefics, well-placed = in 3rd, 6th, or 11th from the dasha sign.
Conclusion from standard ND analysis:
- The 4H–10H axis is the highlight of this dasha — comforts, mother, education, career, profession all shine
- Jupiter in 10H → Raj Yoga; karma and profession are supported
- There are multiple Raj Yogas in Sagittarius (Jupiter-Venus-Mercury-Sun all together): Taking Virgo as lagna, Mercury = LL + 10L, Venus = 2nd + 9th, Jupiter = 4th + 7th → many Raj Yoga combinations
- Marriage friction: Ketu in 7H
- Problems: Saturn in 12H (bad), Moon in 6H (benefic in bad house), Rahu in 1H (health)
- Overall: This is a generally auspicious dasha — the worst is behind. The middle 1/3 (2009–2012) will be the highlight because all those Raj Yoga-forming planets give their results then.
First 1/3 — Virgo's Own Results (2006 Jan – 2009 Jan): The Inanimate Portion
This is the most conceptually important teaching of the lesson.
Inanimate vs Animate Distinction
- First 1/3 = inanimate portion: The sign itself, its house position, the houses that aspect it by Rasi drishti, and the Arudha padas residing in or aspecting that sign — all of these give their results
- Middle + Last 1/3 = animate portions: The planets (occupying, aspecting) and the lord — these are animate/living beings with their own agendas
— PVNR"The sign and its aspects and arudha padas all give results always, but they peak during the sign's own 1/3. The planetary influences (planets, lord) give their results in their respective 1/3s."
Virgo's Position & Aspects
- From Lagna: 6th house = house of obstacles, enemies, also of overcoming them
- From AL (Virgo): 3rd house from AL (AL = Virgo itself) → shows initiative and fighting spirit
- Rasi Drishti on Virgo: 3rd house (Scorpio), 9th house (Taurus), 12th house (Leo) aspect Virgo
- 3rd house aspect → initiative, also short travel and communication
- 9th house aspect → fortune, dharma, displacement to a faraway place
- 12th house aspect → giving, losses, spiritual activity, foreign places
- Combined: The person can have a change of place (3H + 9H + 12H influence) — travel from Methuen, MA to somewhere else; short travels; initiative in taking life forward
Arudha Padas in Virgo
- A4 (4th Arudha) in Virgo → tangible manifestation of comfort (house, vehicle, physical home environment will give results)
- A9 (9th Arudha) in Virgo → tangible manifestation of fortune (lucky breaks!)
- Other Arudhas aspecting also play a role
— PVNRKey Teaching — A9 vs 9H:
- 9th house = Fortune itself — intangible; the force of luck embedded within a person; cannot be seen or touched
- A9 (Arudha of 9th) = Tangible manifestations of fortune — the visible lucky breaks: "He didn't do anything special but got a great job offer," "He got a promotion he didn't expect" — specific events from which we deduce that the person is fortunate
- Similarly: 4H = inner/intangible happiness (sukha); A4 = tangible manifestations of comfort — getting a house, a vehicle, physical comforts
UL aspecting Virgo
- UL (Gemini) aspects Virgo by Rasi drishti → during the inanimate period (2006 Jan – 2009 Jan), marriage is a possibility (because UL = tangible manifestation of marriage/dharmic partnership)
Sign Nature for 3H/6H from AL
- Gemini and Virgo = neutral signs (neither clearly benefic nor malefic)
- The nature of the sign's lord determines if it is benefic/malefic:
- Jupiter's signs (Sagittarius, Pisces) = benefic signs
- Saturn's signs (Capricorn, Aquarius) = malefic signs
- Mars signs (Aries, Scorpio) = malefic signs
- Venus signs (Taurus, Libra) = benefic signs
- Mercury signs (Gemini, Virgo) = neutral
- Moon sign (Cancer) = benefic
- Sun sign (Leo) = check context
— PVNRRule for 3H and 6H from AL:
- If a benefic sign falls in 3H or 6H from AL → person is seen as not fighting, not showing initiative; material losses; saintly image
- If a malefic sign falls in 3H or 6H from AL → person is aggressive, fights, shows initiative; material success
- Neutral sign → middle ground; moderate initiative
- Virgo is neutral and is in 3H from AL → person will show some initiative, some fighting spirit, but not extreme; a middle-ground period
Summary of 2006 Jan – 2009 Jan:
- Change of place (possibly moving cities/states)
- Lucky breaks (A9), new comforts (A4)
- Marriage possible (UL aspects Virgo)
- Getting a job (A10 also aspecting Virgo)
- Short travels, some initiative
- Some enemies/obstacles (6H from lagna)
Middle 1/3 — Planets' Results (2009 Jan – 2012 Jan): The Animate Portion
The 6 planets aspecting Virgo by Rasi drishti from Sagittarius/Gemini/Pisces/Cancer: Sun, Venus, Rahu, Ketu, Jupiter, Mercury.
Ordering by Chara Karaka rank (since longitudes are close, karaka rank gives a hint): Sun = AK (highest longitude) → Venus = AmK → Rahu → Ketu → Jupiter = PK → Mercury = GK (or use actual longitudes)
Order of sub-periods (each = 36 months ÷ 6 = 6 months each):
| Sub-Period | Dates | Planet | Results |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2009 Jan – 2009 Jul | Sun | Sun is 5th lord from Virgo (=12th lord from Virgo, 5th from natal lagna) → recognition of abilities; some career event |
| 2 | 2009 Jul – 2010 Jan | Venus | Venus is 2nd + 7th lord from Virgo (and 9th lord of fortune from Virgo) → very fortunate period; lucky breaks in life; wealth; perhaps relationship event |
| 3 | 2010 Jan – 2010 Jul | Rahu | Rahu is in Virgo lagna (from dasha perspective) AND in natal 6th house (from Aries lagna) → health problems; Rahu in 6H destroys health; mental/physical distress |
| 4 | 2010 Jul – 2011 Jan | Ketu | Ketu in 7H from Virgo → friction in relationships |
| 5 | 2011 Jan – 2011 Jul | Jupiter | Jupiter in 10H from Virgo → career excellent; luck in profession |
| 6 | 2011 Jul – 2012 Jan | Mercury | Mercury = LL and 10L from Virgo → strong career focus; professional achievements |
Highlight: 2009 Jan – 2012 Jan overall is excellent (multiple Raj Yogas manifesting) except for Rahu's 6-month sub-period (2010 Jan – Jul) which shows health risk.
Dasha Praveshi Chakra (Entry Chart for Virgo Dasha)
When you want to assess the Virgo dasha more concretely, cast the annual/TP chart for the year the dasha begins (Virgo dasha starts Jan 2006 → look at the 2006 annual chart). This gives independent corroboration.
Annual Chart for 2006 (Dasha Pravesh Chakra for Virgo Dasha):
- Cancer lagna (in the entry chart)
- Saturn in Cancer lagna ← special significance
— PVNRRule — Saturn in Cancer as 1H or 10H: Saturn in Cancer in the 1st or 10th house gives very good position to the person — authority, following among masses, public prominence. Examples: Indira Gandhi, George W. Bush both had this combination.
Why: Saturn = planet of masses/working class; Moon/Cancer = mind of masses, emotional connect with the public. Saturn in Moon's sign in a power house (1H or 10H) creates a connection to mass following and authority.
This is a classical combination (not given a specific name by PVNR, but found in classics).
Other highlights of entry chart:
- Moon (LL of Cancer lagna) exalted in 11th house → gains, abundance, emotional fulfillment
- Mars (Yogakaraka for Cancer lagna) in 10th house (Aries) → Ruchaka Yoga; excellent career
- Mahapushya Yoga (10th lord + 10th house strong) → great karma period
- Taurus antardasha will give gains (2006 Oct – 2007 Jul)
- Aries antardasha → most excellent career period (Mars in own sign in 10H); the person will be ~29-30 years old = right age for career establishment
