Saptamsha (D-7): Children Analysis

Kerry's Saptamsha: Libra lagna with Sun and Ketu in it; Mercury in the 5th (Aquarius), Saturn in the 9th (Gemini).

Napumsaka (Eunuch) Planets Deny Children

• Mercury and Saturn are the napumsaka planets.
• Mercury and Saturn in trines from Saptamsha lagna → the person may not have children. This is capable of denying, but not conclusive.
• Venus, Mercury and Saturn all in trines → the person will not have children. Jayalalitha's chart is the example.
• In Kerry's D-7 Mercury and Saturn are in trines with an exchange: 5th lord Saturn in the 9th, 9th lord Mercury in the 5th. They are very strong. On these two alone, children are unlikely.

Sun and Ketu in Lagna Break It

The third trine, the lagna, holds Sun and Ketu. They break the trinal hold of Mercury and Saturn.

• Sun likes to give children. He promotes the vamsha, the family line.
• Ketu can stop children once a person already has some. But when there are none, Ketu wants to give them: he is in a hurry for the person to go toward moksha, so he wants the children had first.
• Ketu is the planet of parampara, continuity — of children, of students, of a spiritual lineage.
• So do not read Sun with Ketu here as Sun with an enemy. In the matter of children both have the same agenda, and they sit on the lagna.

"Saptamsha lagna is the seed of his existence as far as children are concerned."

Mercury and Saturn can do nothing but listen to the Sun.

Timing

• The children came in Sun dasha (Dwisaptati Sama). Sun in Navamsha lagna gave the marriage; Sun in Saptamsha lagna gave the children — and everything that goes with them: playing with them, teaching them.
• Two daughters: one born in Mercury antardasha, the other in Saturn antardasha — the two planets in trines.
• Homework set by PVNR: work out the lagnas of the two children, see how Mercury and Saturn fit, and explain why both are daughters. The Saptamsha explains it, but it is tricky. (Not worked out in class.)

Children of a Second Marriage

• A student noted that Kerry gained two sons through his second marriage. PVNR: that is hard to see in the Saptamsha. The Saptamsha shows only your own children. Children born to him from the second wife could be seen.
• The second wife is the 2nd house, as in the Navamsha. In Kerry's D-7 that is Scorpio.
• The fruit of that relationship = the 11th from Scorpio = Virgo, the 12th house. Judge children from the second spouse there.

Why the 5th House Is Children

• 7th from lagna = the relationship. The 11th from it = the gains, the fruit, of that relationship.
• The 11th from the 7th is the 5th. That is why the first child is seen from the 5th house.

D-12 (Dwadasamsha): Father's Career

The Rule

• Dwadasamsha shows the parents. The 9th house is the father.
• For the father you do not take the 9th lord and see where he sits. You take the 9th house itself as the father's lagna. Siblings and children (Drekkana, Saptamsha) follow one scheme; Navamsha and Dwadasamsha follow another.
• Service or business: compare the 6th and 7th from the father's lagna.
• The career itself: the 10th from the father's lagna.

Kerry's Father

D-12 lagna is Leo. The 9th is Aries → father's lagna.

Service or business?

• 6th from Aries = Virgo, with Sun and Jupiter. 7th = Libra, empty → service.
• Sun in the 6th → government service. Jupiter with him → a very respected one.

What kind of career?

• 10th from Aries = Capricorn, with Rahu.
• Rahu is the cheat. On the negative side he cheats, shocks, bombs. Done nicely, the same thing is diplomacy.

"Diplomacy is nothing but cheating. Sugar-coated cheating."

• Rahu is strong here: Capricorn is the sign of his friend Saturn. Capricorn is also the sign of Kali Yuga — Rahu in Capricorn in the 10th is a very Kali-like career.
• Diplomacy needs fluidity, jala tattva. Fire would make it war. Venus and Moon, two jala tattva planets, are in Aquarius, the 2nd from Capricorn, and have argala on Rahu. Without that argala Rahu could have given another career. With it he gives diplomacy.

Pilot:

• Sun is the planet of flying; he is the karaka for birds. When the Sun influences the house of career he can make a pilot, more so under Ketu's influence.
• Here the Sun is in the house of service and Ketu (in Cancer, the 11th from Virgo) has argala on him.

Friends and gains:

• 11th from Aries = Aquarius, with Venus and Moon. Venus and Moon together is a yoga for great wealth (a point from Pandit Sanjay Rath's class).
• In the 11th it is the father's circle: he may be wealthy himself, and more to the point he moves among very wealthy, aristocratic people.

The facts: Kerry's father was a fighter pilot for a short while during World War II, then a career diplomat who lived in several European countries. Kerry went to Switzerland very young because his father was stationed there.

Pranapada Lagna in Navamsha: Karakas for Living Beings

A side point on the Sun as karaka of birds. For a given kind of living being, its karaka must be in a trine or the 7th from Pranapada Lagna in the Navamsha:

• Moon → human beings
• Sun → birds
• Ketu → fish
• Venus → horses
• Rahu → pigs
