BPHS Ch.24 — 7th Lord in Houses 1–3: Very Outgoing + Wicked + Clever + Vata Diseases (1H), Multiple Marriages + Wealth from Marriage + Procrastinator (2H) & Children Survival Problems (3H)

BPHS Chapter 24 — 7th Lord in the First Three Houses (1–3)

7th Lord in 1st House (Verse 73)

Results given by Parashara:

• Paradāreṣu lampaṭaḥ — interested in other people's spouses
• Duṣṭaḥ — a bad, wicked person
• Vicakṣaṇaḥ — very clever; sees clearly "if I do this, this will happen"
• Adhīraḥ — not bold (dhīra = bold)
• Vāta-rujānvitaḥ — has Vata diseases (Vata = air and ether; asthma and the like)

Other people's spouses:

• The lord of interactions is in lagna. The person is very outgoing and talkative and engages with everybody, though Parashara does not say so.
• "One of those people that he engages with is other people's wife."

Wicked (Duṣṭaḥ):

• The 9th house is the sense of dharma, duty and purpose. But lagna is the foundation of character.
• A Maraka is in lagna, so lagna is weakened. That can show disease. It can also show a character problem.

Clever (Vicakṣaṇaḥ):

• Judgment and cleverness are seen from the 5th house. From the 5th, the 7th lord is the 3rd lord in the 9th.
• A planet in the 9th from a house protects that house. He gives good judgment and ability.

Speech (not in the verse):

• The teacher asks the class what kind of speaker this person is. From the 2nd house the planet is the 6th lord in the 12th — a Viparita Raja Yoga for the house of speech.
• Some hiccups at first, perhaps a speech or hearing problem, but it ends well and he speaks nicely.
• Family, also a 2nd house matter, can be a roller-coaster ride that ends well.

Not bold (Adhīraḥ):

• The class first tries the 3rd house. It does not fit: from the 3rd, the planet is the 5th lord in the 11th, with argala on the 3rd. The person has initiative. He walks up to people and engages them. He is not a coward sitting in a corner.
• From the 6th house the planet is the 2nd lord in the 8th — a clear Maraka. When it comes to overcoming obstacles, he cannot.
• He starts well. If someone is a serious obstacle and he has to persist and fight, he walks away.

"He is talking about somebody who doesn't have the fighting spirit, the killer instinct. He is just a starter and he may be a quitter."

Vata diseases:

• The 6th is the house of fighting disease. The planet is badly placed from the 6th, so resistance in the body is poor. He has diseases.
• Why Vata: the 7th lord in lagna makes a person outgoing and dynamic, and dynamism is a quality of air. Very outgoing, hyperactive people have strong Vata or strong Pitta, not Kapha.
• Caveat from the teacher: this is only a likelihood. Without seeing the planets (whether Saturn or Rahu is involved) you cannot name the dosha. Decide from the planets.

7th Lord in 2nd House (Verse 74)

Results given by Parashara:

• Bahu-strī — many wives
• Dāra-yogād dhanāptiḥ — wealth through the wife, or prosperity after marriage
• Dīrgha-sūtrī — a procrastinator; "we can do it tomorrow"

Many wives:

• A student suggests the 9th house, taking one wife as dharma. The teacher rejects it: dharma differs from person to person. Look at the 7th house itself.
• From the 7th house, its lord is in the 8th. The lord is badly placed from his own house, so the marriage does not last.
• "This is not a case of marrying a lot of wives" at once. The wife dies or there is a divorce, and he marries again.

Wealth through marriage:

• The lord who gives marriage is in the 2nd house of wealth.
• The 7th is a Kama house and the 2nd an Artha house. His desire for marriage and outside interaction gives him artha.

Procrastinator:

• From the 3rd house the planet is the 5th lord, but placed in the 8th from the 5th and in the 12th from the 3rd — the house of loss, of giving up.
• The 7th lord shows desire. The 3rd shows the initiative to fulfil desire. The planet of desire is in the house of loss from the house of initiative. He has desires and does not follow up.
• Planets in the 2nd house are in general not conducive to initiative.
• One Kama-trikona lord in the 12th from another Kama trikona is bad.

7th Lord in 3rd House (Verse 75)

Result given by Parashara:

• Mṛtāpatyaḥ — a dead child. A child is stillborn or does not live long. Only with difficulty does a son or daughter survive.

Why children's survival is the problem:

• The 5th shows children. The 8th from the 5th — the 12th house — is the longevity of children. Take it as lagna.
• From there the planet is the 8th lord in the 4th: one Moksha-trikona lord in another. Here that only means an undesirable house. He can break the longevity.
• From the 4th he has argala on that lagna.
• He is in the 9th from his own house, so that house is strong — and that house is the 8th from the children's longevity.

If the child survives:

• From the 5th house (the children) the planet is the 3rd lord in the 11th: gains, luck, initiative.
• Any lord in the 9th from his own house strengthens that house. The child is bold and enterprising.

Caveat:

• This is one possibility. You cannot conclude from the 7th lord in the 3rd alone that children will not live. The Saptamsa has to be consulted.

Other results Parashara does not mention:

• From the 7th house as lagna, the lagna lord is in the 9th. The 7th house is fortified and protected. Excellent interactions.
• The 9th is also fortune and foreign lands: many dealings with foreigners.
