BPHS Ch.17 — 6th House Disease Indicators: Body Part by Planet, Disease Type by 6th/8th Lord + Planet, Leprosy Combinations
BPHS Ch.17 (Shashta Bhava Phaladhyayam — 6th house results). Planet in 6H reveals body area: Sun=head; Moon=face; Mars=throat; Mercury=navel/lower abdomen; Jupiter=nose; Venus=eyes; Saturn=feet/legs; Rahu=stomach; Ketu=navel. Disease type: if 6th lord OR 8th lord is in lagna + conjoined by: Sun=fever (Jwara); Mars=blood problems or weapon wound; Mercury=Pitta diseases; Jupiter=no disease (Jupiter rescues even here); Venus=sexual/reproductive disorders; Saturn=Vata (arthritis, joints, nerves, breathing); Rahu=digestive trouble; Ketu=navel-area diseases; Moon=Kapha (phlegm, colds, drowning risk). Relatives: apply same rules — take house lord + karaka for that relative, check if either is conjoined by 6th lord or placed in 6th/8th → disease type per the dominant planet. Lagna lord in Mars sign or Mercury sign or aspected by Mercury = face problems. Leprosy: lagna lord is Mars or Mercury + Moon+Rahu+Saturn conjunct = kushtha; Moon+Rahu in lagna (no lagna lord) = white leprosy; Saturn dominant = dark; Mars dominant = reddish. Modern relevance: Moon+Saturn+Rahu in 6H or D6 = serious skin/systemic disease risk → advise dietary changes, preventive screening, Ayurvedic consultation. Primary medical charts: D6 (active diseases) + D30 (predisposition).
"Jupiter in the lagna with the 6th or 8th lord — even that combination gives no disease. Jupiter simply rescues. When the other planets are there, they tell you exactly what type of disease to expect."
— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao
BPHS — Shashta Bhava Phaladhyayam (6th House — Disease Indicators)
Body Part Afflicted — Based on Planet in 6th House
— PVNRWhen the 6th house is afflicted, the sign of the 6th house indicates which body part is vulnerable. The planet occupying or dominating the 6th house indicates the specific area of affliction.
| Planet | Body Area Afflicted |
|---|---|
| Sun | Head |
| Moon | Face area |
| Mars | Throat area |
| Mercury | Navel/lower abdomen |
| Jupiter | Nose |
| Venus | Eyes |
| Saturn | Feet/legs (broadly, the lower extremities including knees) |
| Rahu | Stomach (upper digestive, internal stomach area) |
| Ketu | Navel/navel area |
Application: When looking at the 6th house for the native, identify the dominant planet in the 6th house — that planet's associated body part is the zone of vulnerability. The sign of the 6th house (e.g., Virgo = lower abdomen/liver) further localizes it.
Disease Type — 6th Lord or 8th Lord in Lagna, Combined with a Planet
— PVNR"Lagne sashta astama adhishau ravana ye samyutau..."
If the 6th lord or 8th lord is in the lagna AND conjoined by one of these planets, the disease type is:
| Planet Present | Disease |
|---|---|
| Sun | Jwara — fever/inflammatory conditions |
| Mars | Blood problems OR wound from weapon (injury) |
| Mercury | Pitta-related diseases (inflammatory digestive issues, bile imbalance) |
| Jupiter | No disease — Jupiter rescues even when 6th/8th lord is in lagna |
| Venus | Sexual diseases, reproductive disorders |
| Saturn | Vata complaints: joint pain, arthritis, rheumatism, breathing issues, nervous weakness, anxiety, sleep deprivation |
| Rahu | Trouble from lowly/outcast persons; stomach/digestive troubles |
| Ketu | Navel-area diseases |
| Moon | Kapha disorders: excess phlegm, colds, pneumonia, tuberculosis; danger of drowning |
Jupiter's rescuing role: Even if the 6th or 8th lord is in lagna, if Jupiter is also there, he cancels the disease.
Dasha application: The planet whose dasha is running determines when the disease manifests. E.g., if Mars is in lagna with the 6th lord, Mars dasha = time of blood problems or injuries.
Afflictions to Father, Mother, Siblings (Extending to Relatives)
— PVNR"Yevam pitradibhanam tat tat karaka yogatah..."
The same disease-type rules apply to relatives:
- Take the house lord of that relative (9th lord for father, 4th for mother, 3rd for siblings, etc.)
-
- the karaka of that relative (Sun for father, Moon for mother, Mars for brothers)
- If either of these is: conjoined by the 6th lord (anywhere in the chart), OR placed in the 6th or 8th house
- → That relative will have the disease shown by the dominating planet
Also applicable to Divisional Charts: If you take the relevant lagna for father/mother/children in the Dwadasamsa or Saptamsa, apply the same analysis within that chart.
Lagna Lord in Mars Sign or Mercury Sign + Aspected by Mercury → Face Problems
— PVNR"Lagna adhvaah kujakshetre bodhabe, yadi samstheta yatra kotrashti tognena vikshitoh mukhar pradah"
- Lagna lord is in a sign of Mars (Aries or Scorpio) OR a sign of Mercury (Gemini or Virgo)
- OR lagna lord is aspected by Mercury
→ Problems/diseases in the face area
Why Mars and Mercury signs?
- Mars = karaka of diseases generally
- Mercury in the natural zodiac is 3rd lord (Gemini) and 6th lord (Virgo) for the Aries-based natural zodiac — Mercury has disease-causing potential as 6th lord of the natural zodiac
Leprosy (Kushtha) Combinations
Combination 1: Lagna lord is Mars or Mercury + conjoined by Moon, Rahu, AND Saturn → Kushtha (leprosy)
Combination 2 — Three Varieties:
| Condition | Type of Kushtha |
|---|---|
| Moon + Rahu in lagna (without lagna lord) | Sveta kushtha — white leprosy |
| With Saturn as the dominant planet | Dark/black leprosy |
| With Mars as the dominant planet | Reddish (rakta) leprosy |
PVNR's practical note: These combinations are rarely encountered in modern charts. However:
- The principle reveals that Moon is the key planet for skin/systemic diseases like leprosy (Moon = karaka of blood, fluids, skin)
- Moon + Saturn + Rahu (or Mars) = the disease-giving combination for Moon-related afflictions
- Application today: Any strong affliction of Moon by Saturn + Rahu in the 6th house or Shashthyamsa (D6) can indicate serious skin/systemic diseases
- Use this to advise caution and early medical screening, not to scare the person
Medical Astrology Framework (from PVNR's discussion)
Primary charts for disease:
- D6 (Shashthyamsa): Active diseases — severity, type
- D30 (Trimshamsa): Predisposition, vulnerability, subconscious health risks
Ayurvedic body types (Doshas):
- Pitta (Sun/Mars) → spicy food worsens
- Kapha (Moon/Jupiter/Venus) → bland food needed
- Vata (Saturn) → arthritis, nerves, breathing
PVNR's observation on modern disease: In the current age, cancer is increasingly prevalent due to artificial chemicals in food, household products, plastics (especially when microwaved). A strong tamasic influence in D6 (especially Saturn + Rahu in 6th or 8th) warrants advising:
- Dietary changes (avoid processed/artificial food)
- Regular preventive health screening
- Ayurvedic guidance on reducing the dominant dosha
