D-10 (Dasamsha) Career Analysis

Fixing the D-10 Lagna

• After the 28-second correction, the D-10 lagna would become Libra 8 min 11 s earlier. That would take the Navāṁśa back to Gemini, which was rejected. So Libra is out.
• About 4 minutes later it would be Sagittarius. So the choice is Scorpio with Jupiter in it, or Sagittarius with Moon in it.
• The native's career: electronics and computer industry throughout, starting as a system administrator and doing similar administration work since (version-control administration at the time of the class).
• Scorpio explains it. D-10 lagna: Scorpio.

The 6th House Dominates

• Saturn and Rahu are in Aries, the 6th. Compared with the 10th, the 6th stands out. Service; routine work.
• Aries is the sign of high-tech. Rahu is the planet of research, of digging into things, of abstract thinking. Rahu in a Martian sign can show electronics and computers.

Dikpala Amshas

Rahu in Brahma aṁśa:

• Brahma: something already exists; you dig deep into it, organise it and understand it clearly.
• Nirṛti also shows research, but that is crossing the boundary, doing something novel nobody thought of. Brahma is not that.
• Rahu here: someone who keeps monitoring things, digs into them and organises them. Some R&D-type work, finding out which technique works, is also possible.

Saturn in Yama aṁśa:

• Yama: unattached, unemotional, duty-minded. Maintain the dharma wherever you are.
• Such people are quality-assurance people who catch bugs, or network and version-control administrators who see that the rules are not broken.

Together: Rahu makes him organise things; Saturn makes him see that the order is kept. Whether it is software, hardware or QA, or which tool, cannot be seen from the chart.

Mars in Vayu aṁśa (6th lord, debilitated, in the 9th):

• The 6th lord is the landlord of Saturn and Rahu and controls them, so Mars is the other planet that matters. (Moon in the 2nd is a very weak link.)
• Mars is the natural engineer.
• Vayu is wind. A planet in Vayu aṁśa works at creating strength: taking someone weak and making him strong. Wind can also be destructive, wiping out a village; because Mars is debilitated here PVNR takes the positive sense.
• As an administrator he creates the technical strength other people use to do their work. It fits.
• Vayu aṁśa also favours teaching, and Jupiter aspects this Mars (from lagna, by graha and rāśi dṛṣṭi): training people is the other possibility.

"It is Saturn, Rahu, Brahma, Yama. So it's always detail-oriented and discipline-oriented. … In my honest judgment, I don't see any other kind of career as being suitable for you."

Some people rise and stop bothering with the nitty-gritty. Saturn and Rahu in such strength say his work stays with the nitty-gritty.

Debilitation Is Not Bad in Dasamsha

An aside prompted by people at the conference who went away thinking exaltation is bad.

• Exaltation is not bad. Debilitation is also good in Daśāṁśa.
• Exaltation is the state of excitement, the male energy. An exalted planet gives good results when things come easily. If it is expected to make you work hard, it will not, and the results are bad.
• Debilitation is the female energy: patience, perseverance, doing things steadily.
• Saturn, the planet of hard work, debilitated in the 6th house of work: very hardworking, very focused.
• Four planets are debilitated in this D-10 (Saturn, Mars, Mercury, Venus): a very hardworking person.

Lagna and Arudha Lagna

• Jupiter, the 2nd lord, in lagna. The 2nd is resources. His wisdom and intelligence are his resource, and he uses them in what he does.
• Ārūḍha Lagna in Pisces with Mercury — the image colleagues have of him. Pisces: a nice, calm, sāttvik person. Mercury: clever; "if you have a problem, he will find a solution." People respect him. Saturn in AL would have given a different image.
• Mercury is debilitated there, so the flexibility is seen in a negative way: someone who considers too many things, takes extra time, is a little indecisive when quick decisions are expected. The native: yes, that makes sense.
• The reality is the lagna: Scorpio, a fixed sign, with Jupiter. He is firm, and the firmness comes from clear knowledge and discretion.

Ketu Dasha (Just Finished)

• Ketu, lagna lord, is in the 12th, the mokṣa sthāna. Not a good placement.
• Some detachment is forced on the person. As to career only: doing the work as a job, not enjoying it.
• The native agreed.

Venus Dasha (Just Begun): Should He Change?

First ask what Venus wants for service.

• Venus owns the 7th (desire) and the 12th (loss).
• From the 6th house of service, Taurus is the 2nd and Libra is the 7th. The 2nd and 7th from the 6th are the māraka houses of service. Venus owns both. He is the māraka lord for service.
• The 7th is also the house of strong desire and of business. Venus plants the seed: "Why am I working for this company? Why don't I do something of my own?"
• A daśā can show its results a couple of months before it starts. The native: he has already begun thinking this way.

Is business good for him?

• The 6th is far stronger than the 7th. This is not the chart of a strong businessman.
• Venus is in Ananta aṁśa, not Kubera aṁśa. If the desire is turned in the spiritual direction there is much gain. For money, he shows the desire but not its fulfilment.
• Venus is in the 11th, but debilitated.

Advice:

• Stick to the job. "You have a wife and children to take care of."
• Venus is the 7th lord in the 11th of gains, so some gain from independence is possible: working as a contractor at a higher rate, or finding a better job.
• Starting his own business "may be a little bit bordering on disaster."
• "Some level of independence is fine, but don't break the service. The service is what will bring you money."
• When a person asks about "change" as a daśā that is māraka to service begins, he is not asking about moving from one job to another. Read the daśā and you understand what he has not said.

Tithi Pravesha 2004

• First check the border: the Tithi Praveśa D-10 lagna is at 26°, in the 24°–27° part, and would change 3 min 11 s later. That is the same fraction of the division as at birth, so it can be trusted.
• Hora lord of the year: Sun, lord of the 11th of gains, in the 7th of desire. He wants new power. The wish to have a business or be his own boss takes root in this year, which began in February. The Venus mahādaśā came only recently, but the thought may have been growing since February.
• The natal chart takes precedence. If the natal chart does not show that business suits him, do not send him into business because the Tithi Praveśa chart shows the desire. Only if the next three or four years show strong success might you advise it.
• To someone strongly bent on business: do not resign. Do something on the side, make it grow, then resign.

The daśās of the Tithi Praveśa year (read in its D-10):

• Rahu daśā (running): Rahu is in the 2nd. The 3rd, 6th and 11th are the good houses for Rahu; the 2nd is not. He puts a crunch on resources.
• Venus daśā (October 25 – January 9): Venus is lagna lord in the 9th, so he becomes more his own boss: the boss listens to him, or interferes less, and he gets a free hand. Venus is also the 8th lord, so some change, not necessarily of job but in the work or its environment. It will be a good change, since Venus is lagna lord and a functional benefic.
• Sun daśā (from January): if an opportunity comes then, consider it. That is the right time to pursue one. But do not risk the career. A couple of years may be an exception; overall this career is service.
