Moon in Svāṁśa — Profession and Skin Disease

Moon aspected by Venus — liquids and chemicals

• Text: the Moon in svāṁśa aspected by Venus gives capability to deal with liquids and chemicals.
• A son wants to do chemical engineering — look for Moon and Venus.
• Applies in Navāṁśa, and in D-24 too: Moon and Venus together there show chemical engineering.
• By the same reasoning, civil engineering is Saturn and Mars.

Moon aspected by Mercury — the doctor

• Text: Mercury aspecting the Moon in Navāṁśa produces a doctor, or gives work related to medicine.
• Moon is the karaka of the 4th, the house of healing; Mercury is its secondary karaka. Moon is tied directly to medicine.
• The teacher cites a doctor's chart with Moon in the 10th, and a Moon–Mercury link in her D-24.
• The combination works at every level, not only Navāṁśa.
• Venus can also give medicine — pharmacy and herbs (the Sañjīvanī mantra).

Moon in the 4th from svāṁśa — skin disease

The teacher reads these out and says plainly that the logic is not yet clear to him:

• Moon shows the body and health. Mars shows the physical parts, which leprosy deforms. Venus may show the surface of the skin.
• Normally any discolouration of the skin is Rahu's influence on Mercury — Mercury is the skin. Why Moon and Venus give leucoderma "we have to think about".
• Moon with Venus is also a Rudra yoga, which gives blood-pressure problems.

Aside: Ketu's other name is dhvaja — Ketu is the karaka of the flag. A student objects that flags carry Hanuman, so Mars; the teacher answers that not all flags do. The habit to build: find the karaka for each and every thing.

Example Chart — Choosing a Course from Navāṁśa and D-24 (1988)

The question

• A student's relative has just passed his 12th and sat the entrance exam. Which line should he take — biotechnology, the new field everyone wants, or BCS (Bachelor of Computer Science)?
• The class is told at first that his entrance marks were very good, and later that he was fine up to the 10th but did not do well in the entrance exam.

Method

• D-24 is the right varga for education. But confirm the Navāṁśa first.
• Navāṁśa shows the inherent talents — what will come easily to him. An artist pushed into mechanical engineering will not use his talent.
• Read the trines to the Navāṁśa Lagna for inherent traits, then the 10th house.
• Bring a chart only when you know the person well. Otherwise the reading is guessing, not method.

Navāṁśa with Taurus rising (the given time)

Rāśi: Virgo lagna. Navāṁśa: Taurus lagna, with Mars in Capricorn (9th), Mercury and Jupiter in Cancer (3rd), Venus in Aquarius (10th), Moon in Pisces (11th), Sun and Ketu in Sagittarius (8th), Saturn and Rahu in Gemini (2nd).

• Exalted Mars in a trine, aspecting the lagna by rāśi dṛṣṭi. Hot-headed — confirmed, he gets angry easily. Mars on the Navāṁśa Lagna also gives logic and an aptitude for engineering.
• Jupiter and Mercury aspect the lagna by rāśi dṛṣṭi. Mercury makes a good student, good at expression and communication. Jupiter makes him knowledgeable, which comes with age.
• Venus in the 10th. Apply the weekday-order rule to a planet in the 10th: Venus (10th) → Saturn (11th) → Rahu (12th) → Ketu (lagna). Venus in the 10th gives the effect of Ketu in lagna — mathematics, strong intuition, skill with small instruments and micro-circuits. With Jupiter's aspect, an interest in Jyotish or a paramparā.
  • A student objects that Ketu is in the 8th. The rule does not depend on where Ketu sits.
  • Confirmed in part: his mother's family practises astrology and he follows the tradition. His mathematics marks were not good. The teacher: this shows interest, not marks.
• Moon–Jupiter parivartana. Moon is in Pisces, Jupiter in Cancer. The Moon does not aspect the lagna, but Jupiter does, so Jupiter's influence on the lagna can be read as the Moon's.

Navāṁśa with Aries rising (2 minutes earlier)

The Navāṁśa Lagna changes 2 minutes earlier (Aries) and 13 minutes later (Gemini).

• Sun and Ketu fall in a trine (the 9th). Sun gives playing of musical instruments. He started guitar classes this year.
• Venus aspects the lagna by rāśi dṛṣṭi. Mars is in the 10th: Mars → Mercury → Jupiter → Venus, so the lagna gets the effect of Venus. Venus very strong in Navāṁśa gives arts, fine clothes, fashion, sophisticated manners, an eye for detail and for faults.
• The guitar does not decide it. With Taurus rising Venus is the Navāṁśa Lagna lord and can show the same interest.

What settled Taurus

• He is learning Japanese — linguistic ability is Mercury.
• He is a bodybuilder, in the gym every morning. Of the Pañca Mahāpuruṣa yogas the teacher points to Bhadra, Mercury's, as the one described with a well-proportioned, well-built body; Saturn, who works hard, can give it too. He then checks for vargottama planets: Mars is vargottama (Capricorn in Rāśi and Navāṁśa), and exalted. "So Mars is also fine."
• A student adds that the Jupiter, Mercury and Mars influence on the Taurus lagna fits engineering, and is lost with Aries.
• Taurus is kept.

D-24 — three possible lagnas

On the class screen the D-24 lagna is Gemini; it changes 13 seconds earlier (Taurus) and 5 minutes later (Cancer). Neither change moves the Navāṁśa. The site's chart puts the Taurus–Gemini boundary a few seconds after 18:26:00 instead of before it, so the chart on this page is cast at 18:26:20 to show Gemini.

D-24 placements: Rahu and Ketu in Gemini, Mercury in Cancer, Sun and Mars in Virgo, Venus in Libra, Moon in Aquarius, Saturn in Pisces, Jupiter in Taurus.

Gemini rising

• Rahu and Ketu in lagna: an unconventional outlook, or trouble in education.
• Sun and Mars in the 4th, Saturn in the 10th, the nodes in the 1st — every malefic in a kendra. Sarpa Yoga: a lot of problems in education.
• A student points to Jupiter (12th) and Mercury (2nd) flanking the lagna — śubha-kartari. The teacher: that can be a saviour, but there is too much malefic influence for a normal, stable education.

Cancer rising (5 minutes later)

• The 4th is very strong — Venus in own sign: primary education very good. Mercury in lagna: a good student. Jupiter aspects the lagna by rāśi dṛṣṭi.
• But the lagna lord Moon is in the 8th, its Marana Karaka Sthana. Smart, does well, but has to slog — a workaholic who is hard on himself.

Taurus rising (seconds earlier)

• Mercury still aspects the lagna by rāśi dṛṣṭi; Jupiter is now in the lagna itself.
• Lagna lord Venus is in the 6th, but in own sign, so not that bad. Lagna lord in the 6th makes the native intelligent — a dhīmanta yoga. The 3rd lord Moon aspects the lagna; the 4th lord Sun is in the 5th.
• The 8th lord Jupiter is in the lagna: some instability in education.

Not settled. The boy is only in his 12th and there is too little history to choose among the three. The teacher's ruling: use what the Navāṁśa has shown to guide him, and see how the D-24 lines up.

BCS or biotechnology

For BCS

• Navāṁśa Mars is in the 9th — the house of learning in an institution — and aspects the lagna; Mercury aspects it too. Technology and logic are good.
• On these factors alone BCS looks the more appropriate.

For biotechnology

• Biotechnology is the study of living beings and cells. The planet is the Moon, and secondly Jupiter. It is also technology, so the Mars influence is not wasted. The influence of Rahu and Ketu must be seen as well.
• Navāṁśa: the Moon–Jupiter parivartana brings the Moon's influence to the lagna.
• D-24 with Gemini rising: Rahu and Ketu are in lagna. The 9th is Aquarius, with the Moon in it; Rahu, co-lord of Aquarius, is in Gemini, which the teacher treats as exalted. Rahu is research and goes beyond the boundary; with the Moon it points to something unconventional in the life sciences — stem-cell research and the like.

The D-24 rule on getting one's choice

"In D24, whenever you see a particular lord like the 9th lord or the 4th lord being debilitated, you can directly predict that you did not get the choice of line you desired. You had to go with something else."

• The teacher has seen this hold "in 99% of the cases".
• Here the 9th lord is exalted — exaltation means being happy — so he gets the line he wants.

Conclusion

• He can do well in both computers and biotechnology.
• With the D-24 as it stands (Gemini), it seems he will go into biotechnology. Biotechnology is the suggestion; BCS is also fine.
• A student who had worked the chart beforehand with daśās reached the same answer.
• Rahu daśā begins early next year, which suits the choice. Why his marks dipped after the primary years is left for a later daśā analysis.
