BPHS Ch.9 Balarishta Verses 31–45 (Complete) — Father/Mother Combinations, Final Summary Verse & Karma Philosophy

Verses 31–45 completing Ch.9: (31) Jupiter in lagna + Saturn in 2nd + Rahu in 3rd = danger to mother (very rare ~1/16,000); (32) Malefics in trines from waning Moon + no benefics = mother gives up child within 6 months; (33) Mars+Saturn in same amsa OR mutual quadrants from Moon in D9/D12 = two mothers + weak longevity; (34) Saturn lagna + Mars 7th + Moon 6th = father dies; (35) Jupiter in lagna + Sun/Saturn/Mars/Mercury in 2nd = father dies at native's marriage ("marriage is dangerous for father"); (36) Sun afflicted by conjunction/Papakartari + malefic in 7th from Sun = trouble for father (VERY COMMON — predict trouble, not death; father may be absent/enemy, not dead); (37) Sun in 7th + Mars in 10th + Rahu in 12th = father lives with great difficulty; (38) Mars in 10th in inimical sign = father dies quickly (~1/36 probability; apply with judgment); (39) Moon in 6th + Saturn in lagna + Mars in 7th = father dies; (40) Sun in Aries/Scorpio navamsha aspected by Saturn in that amsa = father already separated before birth; (41) Malefics in 4th+10th+12th = danger to both parents, wandering from country to country; (42) Jupiter+Rahu both in inimical signs in 1st or 4th = 23rd year dangerous for father; (43-44) From Sun: 6th/8th/4th afflicted = father problem; from Moon: same = mother problem. Final summary verse: "Bala-bala vivekena kashtam va mrtyumari shahe" — by wise reckoning of strength and weakness, either troubles or death should be indicated. "If malefic is very strong and afflicted planet very weak → predict death. If malefic weak or afflicted planet strong → predict trouble only." Opening: karma only dissolves when kartrtva (sense of doership) is fully surrendered to devata — even good deeds accumulate karma as long as you think you are doing them.

"As long as you think you are doing karma, you will accumulate results — even 1000 years later. The only solution is to give up the kartrtva bhava entirely. Think: it is Mahalakshmi everywhere, she is doing everything. If you really believe it 100%, you get no karma."

— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao

Opening — Karma Philosophy and Homakunda Gifts

On the Nature of Karma

"Even something like donating a million dollars to a nonprofit — even that may be bad karma. You may be getting good karma AND bad karma, and depending on your luck, bad karma may outweigh good karma."

Key principle: As long as you think you are doing karma, you will continue to accumulate results — even 1000 years later from something you did today.

The only solution: Give up the "kartrtva bhava" (sense of ownership over your karma). "Just give it up to some devata. Think that you don't exist. It is Maha Lakshmi everywhere, she is doing everything. If you really believe it 100% to the core, you don't get any karma."

Why homakunda is the safest gift: A homakundam can only be used for sattvic purposes — very unlikely to be misused. Almost guaranteed to generate good karma for the giver.

On Mantra Initiation vs Self-Learning

  • Reading a mantra from a book = starting a new bank account at zero balance
  • Receiving mantra from a guru who has done it millions of times = starting with positive bank balance
  • "It is just a push to start with. It is not sufficient to raise you to any particular level — but you start ahead."
  • Similarly, receiving a homakundam from someone with spiritual experience = slight positive starting balance
  • After you have used the homakundam for some time, pass one on to others — "pay it forward"

BPHS Chapter 9 — Balarishta Verses 31–45 (Completion)

Verse 31 — Jupiter in 1st, Saturn in 2nd, Rahu in 3rd → Problem for Mother

Combination: Jupiter in lagna, Saturn in 2nd house, Rahu in 3rd house

Effect: Mother does not live.

Logic: Saturn and Rahu both aspect the 4th house (Saturn's 3rd aspect on 4th; Rahu's 3rd aspect on 4th). The 4th house = mother is strongly afflicted by these two, plus Jupiter also has a partial aspect.

Probability: Very rare — Jupiter in 1st × Saturn in 2nd × Rahu in 3rd ≈ 1/1,728 ≈ ~1/16,000 effective probability. "If you see 16,000 charts, maybe one will have this combination."

Verse 32 — Malefics in Trines from Waning Moon + No Benefics → Separation from Mother

Combination:

  • Waning Moon (Krishna Paksha)
  • Malefics in the trines from waning Moon (1st, 5th, 9th from Moon)
  • No benefics anywhere in the trines from Moon

Effect: Mother should give up the child — or mother will give up the child. Some kind of separation between mother and child is indicated (could include adoption). One interpretation: if mother gives up the child, she overcomes the danger. Time frame: within 6 months.

Verse 33 — Mars and Saturn in Same Amsa or Quadrants from Moon → Two Mothers

Combination (PVNR's interpretation):

  • In the Navamsha (or possibly D12): Mars and Saturn are either:
    • In the same sign in the amsa, OR
    • In mutual quadrants from each other AND in quadrants from Moon

Effect: "Vimatrubhyam najiivati" = will have two mothers AND still have weak longevity.

What "two mothers" means: Child may have two mothers (adoption, remarriage), yet longevity is still problematic.

Key clarification: The Rashi chart positions of Mars and Saturn don't matter — only their positions in the amsa chart (navamsha or D12).

Verse 34 — Saturn in Lagna, Mars in 7th, Moon in 6th → Father Does Not Live

Combination: Saturn in lagna, Mars in 7th house, Moon in 6th house

Effect: Father will not survive (soon after the child's birth).

Verse 35 — Jupiter in 1st + Sun/Saturn/Mars/Mercury in 2nd → Father Dies at Marriage

Combination: Jupiter in 1st house; Sun, Saturn, Mars, and Mercury (several of them) in the 2nd house

Effect: Father will die not at birth but at the time of the native's marriage.

"Marriage is dangerous for father in this case."

Verse 36 — Sun with Malefic or Papakartari + Malefic in 7th from Sun → Problem for Father

Combination (any of these, not all three required):

  • Sun is with a malefic, OR
  • Sun has Papakartari (hemmed by malefics), OR
  • 7th from Sun has a malefic

Effect: "Pitrishtham" = some arishta for father.

Important note: This is a very common combination — "you will find it in many charts." Do NOT conclude father will die early just because of this. Results:

  • Father may pass away early, OR
  • Father may live far away (absent), OR
  • The native may have enmity with father

Live example: Student had this — father was in the Navy, away travelling most of the time. "He basically grew up not really liking his father. Used to almost hate father until much later in life."

Application rule: When malefics afflict Sun, also consider 6th, 8th, and 4th houses FROM Sun. If those are also afflicted by malefics without benefic, the effect strengthens.

Verse 37 — Sun in 7th + Mars in 10th + Rahu in 12th → Father Lives with Great Difficulty

Combination: Sun in 7th house, Mars in 10th house, Rahu in 12th house

Effect: Father lives with great difficulty (not death, but hard life).

PVNR's logic: Taking the 9th from Sun as "lagna" for father:

  • Mars ends up in 8th from 9th = heavy labor, struggles
  • Rahu ends up in 10th from 9th = career problems

Live verification: Student in class had Sun in 7th (his chart = 7th lord), Mars in 5th, Rahu in 4th. Father lost his job on the exact day of birth. "Partial result — Rahu in 10th from 9th from Sun gave career disruption."

Verse 38 — Mars in 10th House in Inimical Sign → Father Dies Quickly

Combination: Mars in the 10th house in an inimical sign (using compound relationships, not just permanent enemies)

Effect: "Father will die very soon, no doubt" (Parashara's words).

PVNR's caution: This is not a rare combination — probability ~1/36 to 1/40. "Take it with a pinch of salt. Do not predict father's early death just based on this."

Logic: If you take 9th from lagna as reference, the 10th house = 2nd from 9th = Maraka Sthana for father. Mars as a malefic in that sign in inimical dignity = doubly malefic.

Santanam's note: He interprets this as Mercury being Mars's sole enemy (Ch.3 v.55), so only Gemini or Virgo in 10th with Mars applies. PVNR disagrees: use compound relationships, not just permanent enmity.

Verse 39 — Moon in 6th, Saturn in Lagna, Mars in 7th → Father Will Not Live

Combination: Moon in 6th house, Saturn in lagna, Mars in 7th house

Effect: Father will not live long after the birth.

Verse 40 — Sun in Aries/Scorpio Navamsha Aspected by Saturn → Father Already Gone

Combination: Sun in Aries or Scorpio navamsha (or D12), and Saturn aspects Sun in that amsa

Effect: Father has already died or been separated from the child before birth (pre-birth separation).

"It is not soon after birth — this combination shows father has already been separated."

Verse 41 — Malefics in 4th + 10th + 12th → Wandering, Causes Death of Parents

Combination: Malefics in all three of 4th, 10th, and 12th houses (at least one malefic in each)

Effect: "Pitaram mataram hatva deshad deshantaram vrajaet" — causes father and mother to die and wanders from country to country.

Clarification: "Kills father and mother" does NOT mean literal murder. It means the child proves inauspicious for both parents. The wandering shows displacement.

Historical verification: Student mentions 9/11-related cases where father died before child was born; PVNR suggests checking the Daniel Pearl case (reporter killed in Pakistan, wife gave birth after his death).

Verse 42 — Jupiter and Rahu in Inimical Signs in 1st or 4th → 23rd Year Fatal for Father

Combination: Jupiter and Rahu both in inimical signs, both in either lagna OR 4th house (one each, or both together)

Effect: 23rd year can be fatal for father.

"Why 23, God knows — Parashara knows. But that is the specific year he mentions."

Verses 43–44 — General Principle from Sun's Position

Rule: For father, examine Sun. For mother, examine Moon.

  • Malefic aspecting Sun or malefic hemming Sun (Papakartari) → some arishta for father
  • 6th, 8th, and 4th from Sun afflicted by malefics without benefic alleviation → evil for father
  • Same principle applied from Moon → troubles for mother

Final Summary Verse — "Bala-Bala Vivekena"

"Bala-bala vivekena kashtam va mrtyumari shahe." "By wise reckoning of strength and weakness, either troubles or death should be indicated."

— PVNR

PVNR's explanation: This applies to the entire chapter's combinations:

  • If the afflicting malefic is very strong and the afflicted planet is very weak → predict death
  • If the malefic is weak OR the afflicted planet is strong → predict trouble only, not death
  • "This is Parashara's own summary: I have given you combinations. You must apply judgment about strength."

With this verse, BPHS Chapter 9 (Balarishta) is complete. Total: 45 verses.
