BPHS Ch.24 — 6th Lord in Houses 4–6: No Maternal Happiness + Rumor-Monger + Super-Rich (4H), Enmity Children + Kind + Selfish (5H) & Enmity Kinsmen + Friendly Strangers (6H)

6th Lord in the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Houses

6th Lord in the 4th House

Parāśara's results:

• No happiness from the mother
• Manasvī — literally "mindful"
• Piśuna — rumour-monger
• Dveṣī — one who hates, or is jealous of, others
• Cala-citta — of moving mind; fickle, restless
• Ati-vittavān — very rich

No happiness from the mother:

• Same logic as the brother: the 6th lord of enmity is in the 4th. He is deprived of the mother's happiness, or there is no mother, or the mother is an enemy.

Manasvī — here, a shrewd problem-solver:

• The word can mean alert, logical or compassionate — all are qualities of the mind. Which shade applies?
• A student's answer, accepted: the 6th lord is in the 11th from the 6th. The lord of any house in the 11th from it fulfils that house. The 6th is overcoming problems, so he is shrewd and fixes his problems easily.

Rumour-monger (piśuna):

• The word came up some classes earlier, under the 5th lord in the 3rd, translated in the book the class uses as "tale-bearer". The teacher checked: a piśuna carries stories, true or imagined, from here to there and from there to here, and spreads negative talk about people. "Rumour-monger" is the better translation.
• Bottom line: some adharma in the character. From the 9th house of dharma, he is the 10th lord of karma in the 8th, the house of fall. He does actions that make his dharma fall. He is not straightforward in his dealings.
• A student adds: A6 falls in the 2nd house of speech, so speech can become the person's enemy. The teacher accepts it as a possibility.
• Why he goes around talking: from the 7th house of relations, the planet is in the 10th, the house of being active. He pursues his relationships actively.
• And from the 7th he is the 12th lord — the house of causing loss — in the 10th of action. In the course of his dealings with some people he causes loss to other relations.

Jealous (dveṣī):

• From the 6th, the lord is in the 11th: many enmities, many weaknesses. That is the general statement.
• Jealousy specifically is seen from the 12th house, the house of humility. A humble man accepts another's good qualities. Without humility he says "that man has it, why don't I?" and starts hating him.
• From the 12th, the planet is the 7th lord in the 5th. He has argala on the 12th, so he influences humility or the lack of it.
• Why jealousy and not humility? Because from lagna he is the 6th lord, the lord of weaknesses. For qualities of the person — jealous, humble, short-tempered — do not ignore lagna as a reference. The lord of weaknesses with argala on the house of humility gives jealousy.

Fickle-minded (cala-citta):

• The 6th lord in the 4th of sukha: no comfort, no peace of mind. That gives restlessness.
• Fickleness is lack of emotional stability, seen from the 5th. From the 5th, the planet is in the 12th house of loss.
• Both are compromised. A restless and fickle soul.

Very rich (ati-vittavān):

• From the 2nd house, he is the 5th lord in the 3rd. The 5th lord is the ability to accumulate wealth; the 3rd is determination and initiative.
• Wanting is not enough and skill is not enough. Here he has the skill and puts it to use.
• The teacher's reading: ati-vittavān here does not necessarily mean a man who has a lot of wealth. It means a man who is capable of making wealth and has the will to make it.

6th Lord in the 5th House

Parāśara's results:

• Calaṁ tasya dhanādikam — his wealth and the rest keep moving
• Śatrutā putra-mitraiś ca — enmity with children and friends
• Sukhī — happy, comfortable
• Svārthī — self-made in wealth, or selfish
• Dayānvita — kind

"A person of mixed bag."

Fluctuating wealth:

• From the 2nd, he is the 5th lord in the 4th — a trine lord in a quadrant. That is good; the 2nd is strong.
• The fluctuation comes because he is the 6th lord with argala on the 2nd. The native has obstacles to overcome on account of his wealth — litigation and the like.
• "This is not somebody who fluctuates between being a pauper and being a rich man. He is basically a rich man, but he has to fight for keeping his riches."

Enmity with children:

• 6th lord in the 3rd — siblings. In the 4th — mother. In the 5th — children.

Enmity with friends:

• A friend is by definition not an enemy. The meaning is that friends become enemies and enemies become friends; relationships keep changing.
• From the 11th house of friends (the 7th is other relations), he is the 8th lord in the 7th — a māraka. He can kill friendships. He can also give the loss of a friend.
• Being in the 7th from the 11th he also gives relations with friends, so there are ups and downs. Be watchful: in his daśā or antardaśā a friendship can end abruptly.

Happy (sukhī):

• He has argala on lagna and on the 4th. Lagna is the state of the self; the 4th is peace of mind.
• Being the 6th lord he can also rob the happiness. Both are possible; Parāśara gives the positive result to show it is possible.
• The 4th is the house of sukha, but lagna is the seed. "If lagna is bad, you cannot be really happy." A planet with a good influence on both lagna and the 4th makes the person happy.

Selfish (svārthī):

• The word has two meanings: one who made his own wealth, and one who is selfish. The class takes the second.
• The rule:

"Any planet, to give selfishness, has to be detrimental to 7th house and has to be conducive to lagna."

• From the 7th house of relations, he is the 12th lord in the 11th — the lord of losses in the house of gains. Losses for other people.
• From lagna, he has argala on lagna and sits in the 5th of the person's abilities. He increases his own abilities, possibly at somebody else's loss.

Kind (dayānvita):

• Kindness is feeling another's pain. Emotions are seen from the 5th (the 4th shows the state of mind and matters too).
• From the 5th, he is the 2nd lord in lagna. You can read the 2nd as māraka or as feeding. Read as feeding: the 5th-house indications are plentiful. A very emotional person. With argala on lagna and on the 4th, he feels for others.
• The other side of kindness is actually helping. That is dharma. From the 9th, he is the 10th lord in the 9th — the lord of karma in dharma. He can be very helpful and very dharmic.

A student's point at the end of the class:

• The 5th is the 12th from the 6th, so this placement also loses 6th-house ability — the capacity to overcome obstacles. The teacher agrees. Parāśara calls the native a fighter only for the 6th lord in the 2nd and in the 3rd, which are the 9th and 10th from the 6th. Not here.
• That may be one reason the wealth fluctuates, and one reason for the kindness: he is easygoing. "Even if he fights, he will be a wavering fighter."

6th Lord in the 6th House

Parāśara's results:

• Vairaṁ sva-jñāti-maṇḍalāt — enmity from the circle of his own kinsmen. Jñāti = close relatives such as cousins; maṇḍala = a big group. A group among his close relatives are his enemies.
• Anyaiḥ saha bhaven maitrī — with others he is friendly
• Sukhaṁ madhyaṁ dhanādijam — the comfort born from wealth and the rest is medium. Not comfort in general.

Enmity with his own kinsmen:

• Family and close people are the 2nd house. From the 2nd, he is the 5th lord in the 5th.
• More to the point, the 6th lord of enmity has argala on the 2nd. So enmity with the family people is possible.

Friendly with others:

• He is in the 12th from the 7th. In the 7th he would give enmity with everybody; he is in the house of giving up from it.
• From the 7th as lagna he is the 12th lord in the 12th. No argala on the 7th, no aspect on it. He has no problem with people in general; the problem is with the family.

Medium comfort from wealth:

• Wealth is the 2nd. How comfortable you are with your financial position is the 4th from the 2nd — the 5th.
• From the 5th, he is the 2nd lord in the 2nd. Not linked to quadrants or trines. Māraka and sustainer both. Neither very strong nor very weak — mixed. So the contentment is medium: some good, some bad.
• The wealth itself is another matter. Parāśara does not say it, but from the 2nd he is the 5th lord in the 5th, a trine lord in a trine. The teacher's reading: the accumulated wealth will be good, perhaps not the highest; the contentment from it will be average.
• From lagna he is still the 6th lord in the 6th. A planet in the 6th struggles. One possible result: he puts his own health at stake for building and keeping his wealth — or for family matters, since the 2nd is also family and speech.
• A student adds that the 6th lord in the 6th is Harṣa yoga, so he will be cheerful. The teacher agrees.
