D-16 (Shodasamsa) — Vehicles and Accidents

D-16 shows pleasures and happiness, especially from vehicles, accidents with vehicles, and how one handles vehicles. The class notes list it as the chart of vehicles, accidents, pleasures, comforts, discomforts and mental happiness.

• The houses of accidents are the 6th and 8th.
• The 4th is the house of the vehicle.
• Count from the mahadaśā lord: an antardaśā lord placed in, or connected to, the 6th or 8th house from him can give an accident in that antardaśā.
• The natal D-16 lagna (Libra) changes 2 min 53 s earlier or 4 min 57 s later. It needs testing.

Accident 1 — motorcycle, February–March 1989 (Moon–Jupiter)

The native does not remember the date.

• Moon's daśā is ten years long, so look at the antardaśā, and count houses from the mahadaśā lord Moon.
• In D-16 Jupiter is with Mercury in Capricorn and gives Mercury's results.
• From Moon (Aries), Jupiter is the 9th lord, but Mercury is the 3rd and 6th lord. As 6th lord Mercury can give an accident, and Jupiter gives it on his behalf.
• This does not depend on the D-16 lagna. Anyone born around that time must be careful with vehicles in Moon–Jupiter. So it cannot rectify the lagna. Go to the annual chart.

Annual chart 1988–89 (Hora Lord Moon; D-16 lagna Capricorn):

• Sun is the 8th lord in the 6th house. He links the 8th and the 6th.
• Jupiter is with Rahu and Ketu in the 8th house, Leo, and Sun is their dispositor.
• So Sun's daśā can give the accident. "That makes decent sense."

6th–8th links are not a Vipareeta Raja Yoga here

"Any links between 6th house and 8th house in the Shodasamsa chart are bad. That basically means the chance of an accident is increased."

• The 6th lord in the 8th or the 8th lord in the 6th is a Vipareeta Raja Yoga too. In D-16 do not predict "a sudden problem and then a very nice vehicle". Escaping from the accident is the most it can mean.

Jupiter with Rahu — Manushya Hatya

• Rahu hates Jupiter, Sun and Moon. With any other planet he is fine. With one of these three he is a thug on a shooting rampage, and the house they are in is wrecked.
• Two people arguing politely do nothing to the room. A thug who starts shooting destroys it. A thug alone in a room, doing nothing, is no problem either.
• Sun and Moon at least fight back. Jupiter is a learned Brahmin and cannot. So Jupiter with Rahu is called a combination for Manushya Hatya, the killing of a person: a person shown by that house can even die in that year.
• In the Rasi of an annual chart, Jupiter and Rahu in the 5th: be very careful with children that year — or it strikes fame and reputation. In the 7th: very bad for the spouse. In the 4th: the mother.
• This holds in any chart, but above all in a Tithi Pravesha chart, where it will show within the year. In a natal chart it may take eighty years.

Accident 2 — minor car accident, August 28, 1999 (Mars–Mercury)

Take the mahadaśā lord Mars (Virgo in D-16) as lagna. Mercury is with Jupiter and gives Jupiter's results.

• From Mars, Jupiter is the 4th lord (vehicle), debilitated in Capricorn — the 2nd from the 4th, a maraka sthana for the 4th.
• Jupiter is also the badhaka lord from Mars (7th lord of a dual sign).
• No 6th or 8th house is involved. So there is unhappiness and discomfort, but no great destruction: a minor accident.

Jupiter the protector — and Jupiter can kill

A student said there was no danger to life because Jupiter is involved.

"All planets can kill. So don't have false hopes with Jupiter. He is a nice planet, pray to him, but don't think that he will not kill."

• In this chart Jupiter is the lagna lord of the Rasi, in the 9th house of protection, his favourite house. He is responsible for keeping the body intact.
• Dhanur lagna with Jupiter in the 9th is a great blessing. Such a person comes out of whatever happens to him. Nothing will happen to his life even in a big accident.
• Whether a planet kills is not read in D-16. A bad planet in D-16 gives an accident or unhappiness with the vehicle. Death is read in the Rasi chart.

Accident 3 — February 3, 2004

It fell before the 2004 birthday, so the annual chart is 2003–04 (Hora Lord Moon). It happened in Sun's daśā.

• In the annual D-16 (Leo lagna) Sun is the lagna lord in the 6th house, in an enemy's sign (Capricorn).
• PVNR had a car accident in a year with the same D-16 lagna and Sun in the 6th; there Saturn was with Sun.
• Sun in the 6th or 8th, badly placed, can give an accident even though he is the planet of life.
• How severe? With Sun in the 6th in an enemy's sign it will not be minor, but the car need not be wrecked. "We are not such good astrologers that we can give things with great precision."

What to do with such a daśā

• If the chart is rectified and the Tithi Ashtottari daśā of a planet badly placed in the 6th of D-16 is coming, be careful on the road for that month or two. Go slowly, do not overtake.
• The astrologer knows the range of what can happen, not the exact event. A warned client can see to it that the mildest of the possibilities is what happens.
• Do not be alarmed. Be cautious, and do extra prayers (Part 9).

Being prone to accidents — the natal D-16

A student asked about alertness and safe driving. PVNR refused to judge a person's driving or mental alertness from the chart in class. What the chart shows is proneness to accidents:

• Rahu and Ketu in lagna — bad in any chart, a bad sign in D-16. This native has it.
• 6th lord in the 4th — not good for smooth pleasure from vehicles. This native has it: Jupiter, lord of the 6th, is in the 4th. The reverse, 4th lord in the 6th, is as bad.
• An exchange between the 4th lord and the 6th or 8th lord.
• Rahu and Ketu in the lagna, the 4th or the 6th.
• These show a tendency. The right daśā and antardaśā bring it out.

D-6 (Shashthamsa) — Health

In September 2004, suddenly after a flight, the native had a herniated disc, with pain in the neck and the right arm.

The Rasi is the whole physical existence. D-6 is the problems to that existence. Read both. D-6 is the chart for health, enemies and litigation; only health is worked in this class.

First question: is this a two- or three-month problem, or something destined for years? Is the mahadaśā bad, or only the antardaśā?

The natal chart — Rahu mahadaśā

• Natal D-6 (Cancer lagna): Rahu is in the 8th house, Aquarius, which he owns. Giving trouble is his nature, it is the job he has been given here, and he lives in the house.

"The bad guy is given the bad job. And he is made to live there and make sure that it is done."

• Ketu is with him. Ketu's daśā would be worse still — but it is not coming.
• Exchange of results when the owner is present: planets together in a house normally give each other's results; with three or more, the most benefic gives the result of the most malefic. If the planet who owns the house is himself there, he dominates and the exchange does not work freely. The dispositor of a bad combination can give its result, and here Rahu is both in the house and its lord. So Rahu is bad too, with Ketu worse.
• Rahu daśā began a couple of years before the class. It is a terrible mahadaśā for health — for health only, not for other things.
• He is in Rahu–Rahu. Some relief may come, but no cure.

Rahu is not always bad

A student assumed Rahu must be bad. Another said his own Rahu daśā had been very good.

• Rahu is the karaka for bad things, but he can be made to do good. A mafia don may be your best benefactor.
• "Good" and "bad" is the modern way of looking. In the Vedic view everything is mixed and depends on the person. What is nectar for one is poison for another.
• A woman with acute depression was told by an Ayurvedic astrologer only to stop eating salads; she had heavy vata and was eating food that increases vata. She improved within a couple of months.

Jupiter antardaśā — relief

• In D-6 Jupiter is the 6th lord and the 9th lord: problems and protection, mixed.
• In the Rasi he is the lagna lord in the 9th — the greatest protector of this chart. Given the job of giving disease, he gives only small things like colds. As 9th lord of D-6 he protects and cures.
• Relief comes only after January–February 2005; Rahu–Jupiter starts on January 20.
• It may slip by a couple of weeks. Vimshottari from lagna is more sensitive to birth-time error than Vimshottari from Moon, because the lagna moves faster.

The 2004 annual chart (Taurus lagna, Hora Lord Mars; D-6 lagna Sagittarius)

Tithi Ashtottari daśās of the year:

• In an annual chart, a planet tied to the 8th house in both the Rasi and D-6 has a daśā that is bad for health. Jupiter is that planet here.
• Planets in the 3rd house of D-6 fight the disease.
• From the chart alone one might not have predicted a problem of the neck and right arm, but a big problem in Jupiter's daśā was plain.
• Rahu eclipsing the 9th lord: worst when it happens in the 7th or 8th house of the annual D-6. This is not literal destruction. Any effort to cure him will not be on the right track. Do not expect a cure in such a daśā, and do not advise surgery in it. Choose a more auspicious daśā.
• Venus: if he wants to try a new treatment or a surgery, this is the time.
• Prediction given in class: the worst is over. Some progress in the next couple of months. The relief comes in February–March. The natal chart says the same.
