Father's Accident — D12 Sudarshan Chakra Dasha + TP Chart Analysis

Example Chart 1 — Father's Accident (D12 + SC Dasha)

The chart

• D-1 lagna Leo with Mars, Jupiter and Rahu. Lagna is vargottama (Leo navamsa), and Jupiter is in Leo in the navamsa too.
• Event: the father had a vehicular accident in March 1996. The native confirmed he was disturbed and frightened by it.
• D-12 lagna: the recording has PVNR say Capricorn. The birth data as read out gives Aquarius (lagna 15°43' Leo), and the SC Dasha he reads for the 17th year — Gemini from the lagna — also needs Aquarius. The readings below do not depend on it: L9 falls in Cancer either way.

Tithi Pravesha (TP) Chart for 1995–1996

The accident was in March and the birthday is in November, so the 1995 chart is the one. The year begins November 25, 1995 at 1:29:07 PM.

In the D-12 of that chart L9 is in Aries. Reading from Aries:

• Jupiter, the 9th lord, is in the 6th (Virgo). A planet in the 6th can give an accident in its dasha. Being Jupiter, that alone is not enough.
• Mercury is the 6th lord, and Mercury is with the Sun (Aquarius), so the Sun may give the 6th lord's result instead. Candidate dashas: Jupiter and Sun.
• Ketu, 8th lord, is in the lagna. Saturn is in the 8th (Scorpio). Ketu shows something sudden. "When 8th lord Ketu goes into lagna, some sudden shock is possible which harms him bodily."
• Rule: when 8th lord Ketu or 8th lord Rahu is in lagna in a year's chart, tell the person to be careful. Here: there may be some mishap to the father.
• Ketu has no dasha in the TP scheme; the event came in Jupiter's dasha.

Why Jupiter gave an accident — the natal background

Jupiter in the 6th does not normally give a disaster. PVNR went to the natal chart to see why it did here (below), and drew the rule:

• Annual charts "don't exist in vacuum". The background is the natal chart.
• When planets that form good or bad yogas in the natal chart form similar yogas in the annual chart, the results are prominent.
• When a planet with no such role in the natal chart takes an important role in the annual chart, the results are marginal.
• If a natal Sarpa Yoga is repeated in a year's chart, that year brings terrible trouble: the natal problem is being exacerbated.
• Contrast in this chart: the Moon is very good for the father — taking L9 (Cancer) as lagna she is lagna lord, exalted in the 11th (a badhaka sthana, but still lagna lord). If such a planet sat in the 6th of a year's TP chart there would be some problems, but much less.
• He recalled an earlier class example where a natal Moon–Jupiter combination recurred in the lagna of a year's TP chart, one of them being the Hora lord of the year, and that year brought the native great fame.

Dasha Selection: Shatabdika vs. Dwisaptati Sama

Two conditional dashas qualify in this chart:

1. 7th lord in lagna — Rahu, the stronger lord of Aquarius, is in Leo lagna. (The condition is 7th lord in lagna or lagna lord in 7th. It holds even if the weaker co-lord is the one in lagna.) This is the Dwisaptati Sama condition.
2. Lagna vargottama — the Shatabdika condition.

Which one? The criteria: the longer dasha cycle, and the lower probability.

• 7th lord in lagna: 1/12. Lagna lord in 7th: 1/12. Either: 1/12 + 1/12 − 1/144, roughly 1/6.
• Vargottama lagna: any rasi has 9 navamsas and one of them is vargottama. Exactly 1/9. (1/12 × 1/9 only if you fix the sign.)
• 1/9 is rarer than 1/6, and Shatabdika is 100 years. Both criteria point to Shatabdika.

Third criterion — the strength of the planets forming the condition. The conditions are a flowchart; an astrologer also applies intelligence.

• PVNR's hypothetical: Leo lagna holding the Sun, Jupiter and Saturn (7th lord). Dwisaptati Sama applies (7th lord in lagna) and Shashtihayani applies (Sun in lagna). Suppose the two are equally probable and Shashtihayani has fewer years. The Sun is in lagna in his own sign and dominates the personality — so the dasha whose condition he fulfils may dominate.
• "If a particular dasha's condition is being fulfilled by a planet who is really dominant in the chart, you may want to use that dasha."
• In this chart: the vargottama lagna is strengthened by Jupiter, who is in Leo in rasi and in navamsa. Rahu, who fulfils the other condition, is in an enemy's house and is "being hammered" by Mars and Jupiter (see Part 5). So the Shatabdika condition is much the stronger.

All three criteria agree: Shatabdika Dasha.

• Saturn's dasha is always 30 years in Shatabdika. The native had been running Saturn since birth.
• March 1996: Saturn / Mercury / Sun.

Natal Dasha Analysis (D12)

In the natal D-12, L9 is in Cancer. PVNR focused on the pratyantardasha lord, the Sun. From Cancer:

• The Sun is the 2nd lord in the 7th (Capricorn) — a maraka. "That's the more important point."
• Why an accident? Accidents are shown by the 6th and 8th houses. The Sun is with Jupiter, the 6th lord (Sagittarius is the 6th from Cancer). Sun and Jupiter together exchange results without any doubt — "with some planets it's a grey area, you have to make a judgment call; here there is no call."
• So the Sun gives Jupiter's results, and Jupiter as 6th lord can give an accident.
• This is the natal background for the TP chart: Jupiter was giving his results through the Sun's pratyantardasha, Jupiter is the 6th lord natally, and in the year's chart Jupiter was again tied to the 6th. Hence the accident.

SC Dasha Analysis (D12)

SC Dasha in D-12 for March 1996: Gemini / Virgo / Taurus — Gemini from the lagna, Virgo from Chandra chakra, Taurus from Surya chakra.

Which of the three for a father's accident?

• A student proposed the Moon (Virgo), because the pain was mental. PVNR: possible, and the Moon matters — the native was disturbed and frightened.
• But what made the accident happen? The Sun is the Vishvatma — the whole universe — where the Moon is the native's own mind. What God or the whole world does to you = Sun. How you feel about it, perceive it, react to it = Moon. How you try to change the world around you = Lagna.
• So start with the Sun. This is not a matter of picking the stronger one: "All are important in this philosophy."

Reading it: progressed Surya lagna is Taurus. Father = 9th from it = Capricorn. Take Capricorn as lagna in the D-12 of the year's entry chart.

• PVNR did not count well- and ill-placed planets here: the year as a whole may be good and one month terrible. The only question is whether an accident is possible.
• The 6th lord and the 8th lord are together in that lagna (Mercury and the Sun in Capricorn). "It is definitely not good." It shows some mishap to that person.
• A student asked how hospitalization can be read from that. It cannot. Hospitalization is the 12th house: there the 4th lord Mars and Venus sit in the 12th (Sagittarius). A strong 12th house gives a chance of hospitalization.
• From 6th and 8th lords in lagna, all you can say is: some sudden, unexpected setback or mishap during the year.

TP chart, natal dasha and SC Dasha all show the same thing. "All these are basically warning signs."

How far this can be taken

• For events to the native himself you can be confident. For relatives it is dicey, not 100%. Try it, but be careful.
• No technique says exactly what will happen. Here it could be an accident, or — the planets being Sun and Mercury — political enemies conspiring against him. After every technique, tens of combinations remain.

Rahu in Leo / Virgo — Raj Yoga Rule

This came up inside the dasha-selection argument, when PVNR called Rahu weak in Leo and then qualified it.

• Leo is an enemy's house for Rahu, but Rahu likes it. In Leo he is supposed to give great Raja Yoga. "This is like a thug who goes to a king's palace. The king may hate him, but still he feels so good." He is not welcome, but he is excited to be there.
• Dictum: Rahu in lagna in Leo or Virgo gives rajyam. Not necessarily a kingdom — it means it is materially good.
• Source: two of the 108 names in Rahu's Ashtottara Shatanama say this, one for Simha and one for Kanya. "You can learn a little bit of astrology by learning the 108 names of planets." Memorize them, or at least read them and understand the meaning.
• In the example chart Rahu is not a bad planet at all, but he is with Mars and Jupiter. Alone with either he could have taken them to the top. Together it is "a priest and his chief of army" — sattva and tamas joining hands — and Rahu is hammered.
• A student asked whether the dictum applies when Rahu transits Leo or Virgo. PVNR: "Maybe. I am not sure. Very possible… Think along those lines."
