BPHS Ch.30 Verse 26 — Leo/Virgo as Upapada
Leo as Upapada + Moon:
- If Upapada is Leo and Moon is conjoining or aspecting it
- Result: Alpapraja — few children
- Why? Moon = 12th lord (Leo is ruled by Sun; Cancer/Moon = 12th from Leo). 12th lord in Upapada itself = not conducive to many children. Moon alone does not give many children.
Virgo as Upapada:
- Result: More daughters than sons (kanya-praja = daughter-progeny)
- Why? The nature of the Upapada sign itself has a role — Virgo being a female sign with female-planet Mercury.
BPHS Ch.30 Verses 28-30 — Siblings from 3rd and 11th from References
Saturn + Rahu in 3rd or 11th from AL/Lagna:
- In 3rd → destroys younger siblings
- In 11th → destroys elder siblings
- General rule: Saturn + Rahu = planets of depletion → deplete siblings
Venus in 3rd/11th from Lagna or AL, or in 1st/8th from Lagna or AL:
- Result: Abortion of mother when carrying sibling → sibling not even born
- Why Venus is bad for siblings:

Condition: Saturn AND Mars are together (conjunction or mutual aspect) in 3rd or 11th from Lagna or Arudha Lagna
Result: Younger (3rd) or elder (11th) siblings are destroyed

Result: Svamatra seshashyat — only that person remains; all other siblings destroyed/not born

BPHS Ch.30 Verse 33 — Ketu in 3rd/11th → Many Sisters
Condition: Ketu in 3rd or 11th from the references
Result: Bahulam bhagini sukham — many sisters / abundant female sibling happiness
Why?:
- Ketu is like Mars in terms of being a co-significator for siblings (not an enemy like Saturn)
- But: Rahu shows male siblings; Ketu shows female siblings
- Extrapolation: female planets (Moon, Venus, etc.) in 3rd/11th → likely more female siblings; male planets → more male siblings
BPHS Ch.30 Verse 34 — 6th from AL: Career Quality
Condition: Functional malefic in 6th from Arudha Lagna, without any functional benefic aspecting or conjoining
Result: Chaurava — thief; undesirable/lowly career
General principle:
— PVNR"Bottom line is if there are malefics influencing the 6th from Arudha, the career will be a bad career, an undesirable career. Whereas if it is a benefic planet, it will be a desirable career."
BPHS Ch.30 Verse 35 — Rahu in 7th or 12th from AL → Wise and Fortunate
Condition: Rahu is conjoining or aspecting the 7th or 12th house from Arudha Lagna
Results:
- Jnanavan — wise, full of knowledge
- Bahubhagya — accompanied by many fortunes
Why wise?:
- If Rahu is in 7th from AL → Ketu is in AL itself → Ketu in AL = spiritual/introspective personality
- If Rahu is in 12th from AL → Ketu is in 6th from AL → Ketu in 6th = career/livelihood related to spiritual matters
Why fortunate?:
- Rahu in 12th from AL → argala on AL + Rahu depletes the 12th (giving/charity) → "he doesn't give much, he accumulates" → very fortunate materially
- Rahu in 7th from AL → personality projects outward as materially successful (Rahu = materialism)
Which dominates (spiritual vs material)?:
— PVNR"Which one decides whether he is more spiritual or more material? Whether Rahu is stronger or Ketu is stronger. Look at their respective sign strengths and compare."
- Rahu in own/exaltation sign >> Ketu in friendly sign → material/fortune dominates
- Ketu strong and Rahu weak → spiritual wisdom dominates
