D3 Extension — Mother-in-Law & Graha Malika Yoga

Extending D3 analysis: how to identify the mother-in-law from the sibling's spouse in the D3 chart. Graha Malika Yoga in the student's Rasi chart — planets occupying 4 or more consecutive houses form a garland, indicating a transformative life path. Conditional Nakshatra Dasha overview: the 9 special dashas that apply only under specific birth conditions.

"Unless you make a lot of failed predictions, you will not get your concepts right."

Opening: D-3 Extension — Seeing Mother-in-Law

Continuation from Lesson 18's D-3 analysis of the student chart (Feb 25, 1963).

How to See Mother-in-Law from D-3

  1. Find the sibling's lagna (using the house sequence rule)
  2. From that lagna, find the Upada (UL)
  3. Take the 4th house from UL → this is the mother-in-law

Why 4th from UL? 4th house = mother; UL = marriage = the spouse's lagna reference. So 4th from UL = mother of the spouse = mother-in-law.

Important caveat: As you go further and further away from the native (sibling → sibling's spouse → sibling's spouse's mother), predictions become less and less crisp. You can only get a general sense, not fine details.

Key Example Application

For the student's elder brother (D-3 lagna = Taurus, lord Mercury in Taurus):

  • UL = Gemini (Sun in it)
  • 4th from Gemini = Virgo (Saturn in it)
  • Sun in UL (sister-in-law's lagna) vs. Saturn in 4th from UL (her mother)
  • Sun + Saturn in the same Mercury-owned signs: natural enemies, political opposites

Friction Indicator: Sun + Saturn

When you find Sun in one relative's lagna and Saturn in another relative's lagna, there will be friction between those two people. They repel each other naturally.

Other combinations that show friction/poor relationship:

  • Sun + Rahu in respective lagnas
  • Sun + Ketu
  • Moon + Rahu
  • Moon + Ketu

Additional relationship indicators:

  • Shadastaka (6/8 relationship): Two lagnas in 6th/8th from each other = troubled relationship
  • Dwirdwadasha (2/12 relationship): One in 2nd, other in 12th from each other = one expects from the other but doesn't get; frustration

Note: The D-3 chart shows the native's experience of these relationships — not objective reality of those people's lives. If the native is unaware of something about a relative, it may not show clearly.

Graha Malika Yoga in the Student's Chart

PVNR notices Graha Malika Yoga in the Rashi chart of the same student from Lesson 18.

Graha Malika (Planetary Chain) Yoga

  • When consecutive signs each have a planet, forming an unbroken chain = Graha Malika Yoga
  • Common minimum threshold: 4 consecutive occupied signs (some traditions require 5)
  • Here: Venus (Sagittarius) → chain through to Moon (Pisces) = auspicious chain

Analysis of This Graha Malika

Seed planet (start of chain): Venus

  • Venus = Atmakaraka (AK) of this chart (highest degree planet)
  • Venus = 9th lord (Dharma, religion, guru)
  • A chain starting with the Atmakaraka is especially auspicious

Culmination planet (end of chain): Moon

  • Moon is in Pisces (Jala Tattva sign = Moon is comfortable, strong Sthana Bala)
  • Moon is in adhimitra (best friend) sign: Jupiter owns Pisces, Jupiter is Moon's permanent + temporary friend
  • Moon owns 11th house (friends, gains) and is Dara Karaka (spouse/companions)
  • A9 and A8 are both in Cancer (Moon's sign) → Moon is lord of tangible religious practices AND occult sadhana

Dasha of the Atmakaraka

Key rule: The Vimshottari Dasha of the Chara Atmakaraka is considered bad for material prosperity but very good for spiritual growth.

  • AK's agenda = spiritual salvation, not material rewards
  • AK remembers the soul's purpose across many lifetimes
  • If you pursue material goals during AK dasha, the soul teaches harsh lessons to redirect you
  • If you align with spirituality, the dasha flows smoothly

What Venus AK Dasha will bring:

  • Strong inclination toward finding one's spiritual roots
  • Will follow the ritualistic/religious path (because Venus owns the 9th house of dharma)
  • Will join a particular spiritual organization, ashram, or institute
  • Will also engage in occult sadhana and personal spiritual practice (A8 = occult, A9 = religious practice, both in Cancer owned by Moon)

Culmination (Moon Dasha):

  • Making spiritual friends, being associated with peaceful and relaxed people
  • Being engaged with a proper religious order + occult/sadhana practices
  • Long-lasting results (Gajakesari-like effect: Moon in Pisces, Jupiter in Aquarius = mutual friendship)

Key Principle: Lord of Arudha in Trine from Arudha

When the lord of an Arudha Pada is in a trine (1st, 5th, 9th) from that Arudha, the lord protects that Arudha very effectively. Here Moon (lord of A9 and A8 in Cancer) is in the 9th from Cancer (Moon is in Pisces) → A9 (religious practices) is strongly protected.

Conditional Nakshatra Dashas

PVNR introduces the system of conditional dashas as a major topic while analyzing John Kerry's chart.

Why Conditional Dashas?

Parashara gave many dashas. Vimshottari applies universally, but conditional dashas, when applicable, give far more consistent and clear results because they target the specific focus/theme of that individual's life.

Rule when multiple conditional dashas apply: Use the one applicable to the fewest people (most specific condition), as that shows the most focused theme. If tied, use the dasha with the longer total duration.

Major Conditional Nakshatra Dashas

DashaTotal YearsConditionApprox % People
Dwi-Saptati Sama Dasha72 yearsLL in 7H OR 7L in Lagna (Rashi chart only)~1/6 (~17%)
Shatrimsha Sama Dasha36 yearsDaytime birth in Sun's Hora OR Nighttime in Moon's Hora~50%
Shashti-Hayani (Shashti Sama) Dasha60 yearsSun in Lagna~1/12
Chaturashiti Sama Dasha84 years10th lord in 10th house~1/12
Ashtottari Dasha108 yearsDaytime birth in Krishna Paksha OR Nighttime in Shukla Paksha, with Rahu in trine/quadrant from lagna~25%
Dwadashottari Dasha112 yearsLagna in Navamsha of Venusrare
Satabdika Dasha100 yearsLagna is Vargottamarare
Panchottari Dasha105 yearsLagna in Cancer in both Rashi and Dwadasamshavery rare

Hora for Conditional Dasha Determination

To check Sun's Hora vs Moon's Hora in the D-2 chart:

  • Odd signs: First half (0–15°) = Sun's Hora; Second half (15–30°) = Moon's Hora
  • Even signs: First half (0–15°) = Moon's Hora; Second half (15–30°) = Sun's Hora

Reason: Even signs have female/Moon nature → Moon comes first. Odd signs have Sun's nature → Sun comes first.

Also important: Daytime = born after sunrise and before sunset. Do NOT assume 8 AM is daytime in December at high latitudes — sunrise can be at 8:15 AM.

Dwi-Saptati Sama Dasha

  • Condition: Lagna lord in 7H OR 7H lord in Lagna
  • If strongly satisfied in multiple divisional charts (Rashi + Navamsha + Dasamsha), the condition is extremely strongly applicable
  • Meaning: Shows a person whose life focus is the strong pursuit of desires and how those desires are pursued
  • This dasha shows events from the angle of desire fulfillment, not just mental perception

Dwi-Saptati Sama Dasha vs. Vimshottari:

  • Vimshottari = how the mind experiences events
  • Dwi-Saptati Sama = how the mind experiences events from the angle of desire pursuit

Probability Rule

When assessing which dasha to prioritize, consider statistical frequency:

  • Condition applicable to ~50% of people: lower priority
  • Condition applicable to ~17% of people: higher priority
  • Condition applicable to ~8% of people: highest priority
  • More specific condition = more revealing about that individual's unique life pattern
