Dasha Progression Cases: Libra 1971 Marriage (Progressed 7L Mars in D9 = 4°42′ Aquarius; Transit Saturn 4°32′ = 10' Apart); PVNR Childbirth 1996 (Progressed 5L Saturn D7 = 7°11′ Aquarius; Transit Moon 7°34′); PVNR Accident 1996 (D30 Progressed 6L Saturn; Transit Mars 8th aspect); Indira Gandhi D5+Ghati Lagna Power/Loss

Case 1 — Marriage (Libra Lagna, 1971)

Birth: 12 September 1971, 8:25 AM IST. Marriage: 1 August 1993, 9:28 PM. Example 1 of the teacher's article.

• Libra rises in both Rasi and Navamsa, so Mars is the 7th lord in both.
• Progressed Mars on the marriage date: 13°51' Aquarius (Shatabhisha). Its Navamsa longitude: 4°42' Aquarius.
• Transit Saturn that day: 4°32' Aquarius — within 10 arc-minutes.

What Saturn has to do with marriage in the natal chart:

• Navamsa: Saturn is the yogakaraka and sits in the 7th house (Aries) — also by longitude.
• Rasi: Saturn at 13° Taurus; Upapada at 14°22' Cancer. Saturn's 3rd aspect falls almost on the cusp: 100% on the Upapada, 73.86% on the 2nd from Upapada.
• Rasi Saturn on the Navamsa Upapada: 87.67%.
• So Saturn is one of the strongest planets for marriage in this chart, apart from Mars, the 7th lord.

"If you look at the natal Mars, there is no relationship between Saturn and Mars. But if you look at the progressed Mars, he is within 10 arc minutes."

Case 2 — Childbirth (Aquarius Lagna, 1976)

Birth: 25 April 1976, 2:32 AM IST (80°37'E, 16°31'N). Event: a child born on 5 May 2004 (time unknown; noon used). Example 7 of the article.

• Aquarius lagna. 5th lord in Rasi = Mercury. (The 5th lord from Jupiter and a few others can be tried too.)
• Progressed Mercury: 10°45' Gemini. In D7: 15°14' Leo.
• Transit Jupiter: 15°01' Leo — within a quarter degree.
• Transit Saturn: 15°20' Gemini — his 3rd aspect falls closely on 15°14' Leo.

Jupiter in the natal D7 (lagna 15°14' Aries):

• Exalted at 4°02' Cancer. By longitude from the lagna degree he is in the 3rd house, not the 4th. (The site's chart counts houses by sign and shows Cancer as the 4th.)
• 9th lord from lagna. 9th lord from the Moon too, and with the Moon (2°17' Cancer) — on the cusp of the 1st from Chandra lagna.
• Karaka of children.
• 5th = child. 3rd = 11th from the 5th, the gain of children.

A student said Jupiter is with the 5th lord. He is not.

"He is the 9th lord. He is exalted. He is in the 3rd house. That's all. Nothing more."

"Any planet associated with the 3rd house, 5th house or 1st house in Saptamsa, they can give childbirth."

Case 3 — The Teacher's Own Chart: Birth of a Daughter (1996)

Birth: 4 April 1970, 5:47:13 PM IST, Machilipatnam (81°08'E, 16°10'N). Virgo lagna.
Event: daughter born 19 February 1996, about 8 AM IST (the evening of 18 February in the US).

• 5th lord in Rasi = Saturn.
• Progressed Saturn: 13°53' Taurus. In D7: 7°11' Aquarius.
• Transit Moon: 7°34' Aquarius — within half a degree.
• Transit Mars: 9°05' Aquarius — within 2°.

Natal D7 (lagna 9°00' Gemini):

• Moon at 19°49' Leo — in the 3rd house. The 3rd always shows childbirth.
• Mars at 6°55' Libra — by longitude not quite in the 5th house. So take the karaka lagna. Jupiter is strong, in moolatrikona at about 8° Sagittarius. The 5th from Jupiter is 8°22' Aries. Mars owns it and, from 7° Libra (the 11th from Jupiter), aspects that point by almost 100%.

The rule drawn: look at the magnitude of an aspect, not only the signs.

"It's not just, oh, Jupiter is in Gemini, he is aspecting Libra. Which point are you looking at? Where is it in Libra? Is it at 10° Libra or 30° Libra? And where is Jupiter? What is the amount of aspect?"

A lord aspecting his own house by 100% is far stronger than by 30%.

Case 4 — The Teacher's Own Chart: Car Accident (1996)

Event: evening of 5 December 1996 in the US = 6 December 1996, 5:15 AM IST. A vehicular accident; the car was totaled.

• Accidents come from the 6th and the 8th. 6th lord in Rasi = Saturn (Virgo lagna). Rahu, co-lord of Aquarius, could be taken too, but the teacher stays away from progressed Rahu.
• Which chart? D16 for the vehicle. D30 for the evil — a bad event that shakes you up. See both.

How the D30 longitude is taken

• Parashara cuts the 30° of a sign into five unequal portions and maps them to five signs — odd signs to odd, even to even.
• The teacher does not stretch a whole portion over 0–30°. Each 1° is one trimsamsa and maps to the full 0–30° of its sign; it just happens that five or more in a row go to the same sign. It is called Trimsamsa because the sign is cut into 30 parts. This gave much better results.

The transit

• Progressed Saturn in D30: 23°17' Pisces.
• Transit Moon: 21°20' Virgo — 7th aspect on it. (The Moon moves too fast to be of use in prediction; it still illustrates the technique.)
• Transit Mars: 25°01' Leo — his 8th aspect is 100% on 25°01' Pisces; on 23°17' Pisces it is about 75%.

Natal D30 (lagna 4° Pisces): Moon at 16° Libra and Mars at 21° Libra — both in the 8th house.

"Moon and Mars were in the 8th house in the natal Trimsamsa showing some mishap, and they are aspecting the progressed Saturn in the D30, and Saturn is the 6th lord in the natal Rasi chart."

• D16 too: take the D16 longitude of the progressed Saturn; the teacher says the 6th lord of the natal D16 aspects it in transit. He did not show the figures.

Case 5 — Indira Gandhi: Loss of Power (24 March 1977)

Birth: 19 November 1917, 11:05 PM IST, Allahabad (81°51'E, 25°27'N). Example 23 of the article.

Which planet to progress

• The 5th lord Mars is one candidate.
• A student offered the Sun in the 5th. Lagna is at 26° Cancer and the Sun at 4° Scorpio: by longitude the Sun is in the 4th house.
• Saturn: with Cancer rising and Saturn in Cancer there is Simhasana Yoga. Political power is also seen from the 7th, and Saturn is the 7th lord. Cancer is very fruitful for Saturn when Cancer rises (7th lord) or Libra rises (yogakaraka).
• Saturn is the lagna lord from the Moon, in the 7th from the Moon.
• Saturn is the 10th lord from Ghati Lagna. Ghati Lagna shows power.
• By longitude Saturn (21°49' Cancer) is behind the lagna degree, in the 12th house — but he is in Cancer.

D5 for political power

"When you are looking at political power, not just influence in the workplace like being a manager or something, D5 seems to be a much better chart than the D10 chart."

The transit

• Progressed Saturn on 24 March 1977: 3°26' Libra. In D5: 17°12' Aries.
• Transit Saturn: 16°43' Cancer — his 10th aspect falls on 16°43' Aries, within half a degree. About 98–99%.
• A student asked whether to take the D5 of the transit. No: always the Rasi position of the transit planet against the divisional longitude of the progressed planet.

Saturn in the natal D5: in the 3rd house from lagna — the 3rd shows a break. From Ghati Lagna, which matters more, he is in the 8th house (and is its lord). The planet who is in the 8th from Ghati Lagna aspected the progressed point: fall from power.

Case 6 — Indira Gandhi: Return to Power (15 January 1980)

Event: became Prime Minister again.

• Same planet: Saturn, giver of the Simhasana Yoga and 10th lord from Ghati Lagna. In the other cases the lord is counted from lagna in the natal Rasi chart; here it is counted from Ghati Lagna.
• Progressed Saturn: 7°28' Libra. In D5: 7°20' Aquarius.
• Transit Venus: 5°23' Aquarius — within 2°.
• Transit Ketu: 6°12' Aquarius — right there. Rahu opposite, aspecting within about 1°.
• Jupiter is too far to count. Saturn in Virgo does not aspect the point.

In the natal D5, from Ghati Lagna:

• Venus = 5th lord. Whether Venus sits exactly with Ghati Lagna cannot be relied on — Ghati Lagna in D5 depends on the precision of the birth time. The lordship can be relied on.
• Rahu = 9th lord, in the 9th.
• Ketu = 6th lord — not a great planet — but in the 9th.

"The two planets who are very closely aspecting the D5 position of the progressed Saturn happen to be the 5th lord and the 9th lord from Ghati Lagna."

• At the fall it was the 3rd lord from lagna and the 8th lord from Ghati Lagna, in the 8th. Now it is the 5th and 9th lords: blessings and purva punya in the matter of power.
