BPHS Ch.17 — Vata at 59 (Late Disease = Strong Constitution), Animal Attack, Fire Danger, Gland Disorders & Sanskrit Number Encoding
Four more timing verses of the 6th house chapter. Lagna lord in lagna with Saturn in an inimical sign gives vata disease only in the 59th year, which means good health in general; a karaka of a bad matter in an inimical sign makes the bad results worse. The 8th lord in the 6th, the 12th lord in lagna and the Moon with the 6th lord give danger from an animal in the 8th year, and the class works out that A8 then falls in the 4th house of cattle and vehicles. Rahu in the 6th or 8th with Saturn in the 8th from him gives fire in the first two years and trouble from birds in the third. The 8th lord with Rahu in rasi, and in the 8th or a trine of the navamsa, gives gland or urinary disorders in the 18th or 22nd year. Getting the disease in the 59th year basically means in general good health. Lagna lord in lagna is a good combination, but Saturn in an inimical sign is not good.

Lagna Lord in Lagna + Saturn in an Inimical Sign → Vata Disease in the 59th Year
- Lagna lord in the lagna itself
- Saturn in an inimical sign
→ Vata roga (windy disorders) in the 59th year — ekona shashti, one less than sixty.
The lagna lord in lagna is not a fault that is being quoted to show disease:
"Getting the disease in the 59th year basically means in general good health."
- Lagna lord in lagna is a good combination. Saturn in an inimical sign is not.
- Saturn is the karaka for diseases, vata diseases above all. Mars is the karaka for pitta diseases.
- Saturn in an inimical sign shows some vata problem. The lagna lord in lagna postpones it. It does not come quickly.
The karaka rule:
"If the karaka for a bad matter is in an inimical sign, those bad results will be exacerbated, whereas if the karaka of some good matters is in a good sign, the good results will be amplified."
8th Lord in 6H + 12th Lord in Lagna + Moon with the 6th Lord → Danger from an Animal in the 8th Year
"This is a complicated one."
- 8th lord in the 6th house (randhresha in the ripu rashi)
- 12th lord in lagna
- Moon with the 6th lord
→ Mrigad bhayam, fear of an animal, in the 8th year (vasu varsha).
A dog biting the person, a bull charging into him: hospitalisation, a wound or a disease from some encounter with an animal in the eighth year.
Sanskrit Number Encoding
Vasu varsha means the 8th year because there are eight Vasus.

Why an Animal — A8 in the 4th House
The teacher asks the class which house shows the cattle a person owns: the 2nd or the 4th? The 4th — cattle are property.
Then he asks whether any arudha pada falls in the 4th in this combination. Worked out in class:
- 12th lord in lagna → the Upapada falls in the 2nd house.
- 8th lord in the 6th: he is in the 11th from the 8th. The 11th from the 6th is the 4th. So A8, the Mrityupada, is in the 4th house.
A8 in the 4th makes a problem relating to 4th-house matters possible — cattle.
- A student adds that the horse was the vehicle. The teacher agrees: the 4th house also shows the vehicle.
- He does not claim to have explained the verse. The result does not rest on the 8th lord in the 6th alone, and why Parashara names animals in particular:
"I am not 100% sure. We are unfortunately unable to understand several of these things."
Rahu in 6H or 8H + Saturn in the 8th from Rahu → Fire in the 1st or 2nd Year, Birds in the 3rd
- Rahu in the 6th or the 8th house
- Saturn in the 8th house from Rahu
If Rahu is in the 6th, Saturn is in lagna. If Rahu is in the 8th, Saturn is in the 3rd. Put the other way: Rahu is in the 6th from Saturn, and in the 6th or 8th from lagna.

- 3rd year: pakshi dosha — some problem from birds
8th Lord with Rahu, and in the 8th or a Trine in the Amsa → Gland or Urinary Disorder in the 18th or 22nd Year
Verse 25.
- 8th lord with Rahu in the rasi chart
- In the amsa, the 8th lord with Rahu in the 8th house or in a trine (kona = trine; the teacher first says "quadrant" and corrects himself)
The verse does not make clear which amsa. He takes it as the navamsa.
→ Granthi mehadi pida in the 22nd year (dvavimsha) or the 18th.
- Granthi = glands: some gland does not work well, perhaps the pituitary.
- Meha = urinary disorders.
The logic he gives:
- 8th lord in the 8th in navamsa as well: the problem is exacerbated.
- 8th lord in a trine in navamsa: the trines of the navamsa show protection. When the one whose agenda is to give you problems holds those trines, the protection is ruined.
The caution: suppose he is in the 9th in navamsa, and Jupiter, a functional benefic or the 9th lord is there too. Then the result may be very small or almost nil.
"You cannot take just one formula and apply. You have to understand."
