Pranay (Mar 26, 2010, 3:45 PM EDT, Boston; 2-year-old boy with developmental delays/autism). Key weaknesses: (1) Moon Gandanta in Ashlesha nakshatra = Sarpa nakshatra + Sarpa Drekkana + Sarpa Trikona = "Moon doubly important here: (a) planet of mind/manas (b) Shobhavati — Moon in own sign Cancer also makes him the Nakshatra dispositor; being Gandanta when having this double importance is really terrible." 15-degree house rule: Moon at 28.5° Gemini + Lagna at 4.5° Cancer = only 6° difference = Moon is in 1st house (not 12th); "Lagna ±15° = 1st house; any planet within this range is considered in 1st house." (2) Both Moon (mind/manas) and Mercury (buddhi/intellect) in Sarpa Trikonas = "compounded affliction for mind and intellect." (3) Papakartari on Lagna: Saturn (6L) + Mars (8L) both retrograde flanking lagna = "2 retrograde functional malefics with Katari on lagna + Mandi/Gulika in lagna = especially strong affliction." (4) Lagna lord in 8H with debilitated Mercury (Maraka) = "lagna lord with Maraka Mercury, debilitated, in 8H = problems in intellectual development and communication." D30 Trimsamsa: Moon debilitated in 8H of D30, aspected by Saturn (Bhadaka, 3rd aspect) = "Moon in 8H in debility in chart of suffering = serious affliction." D27 Bhamsa (mental strengths): D27 planet significations = Mars=energy/initiative; Moon=mental clarity/stability; Mercury=learning; Jupiter=discrimination; Venus=happiness; Saturn=perseverance. In Pranay's D27: Moon conjoined by Rahu in Rahu's own sign = "Rahu dominates Moon completely; mind is not really a strong mind." Remedies: Gandanta Shanti puja (Sarpa/Ashlesha deity homam); Chamundeshwari Stotra or Navarna Mantra daily (Moon-Mars-Sarpa combination → Chamunda); Naga Abhishekam: "get small silver/copper snake idol; pour milk daily every morning; chant Om Nageshwaram; OR Sarpa Suktam while doing abhishekam." Longevity concerns also noted (separate from autism).

"Moon is in Ashlesha — a Sarpa nakshatra, a Sarpa Drekkana, a Sarpa Trikona. And Moon is in his own sign Cancer, which makes him Shobhavati — the Nakshatra dispositor as well. When Moon has this double importance and is in Gandanta, the affliction is doubly serious. Moon is the mind that interacts with the world. When Moon is very weak, the process of receiving stimuli — correlating sounds, images, and expressions into a coherent picture — is disturbed. Oversensitivity. Not intellectual deficiency. Reception problem."

Example Chart

Pranay — Autism/Developmental Delay Chart (Boston, 2010)
Mar 26, 2010 · 3:45 PM EDT · Boston (71°3'W, 42°21'N)
Moon Gandanta in Ashlesha (Sarpa) + Shobhavati = double affliction. 15-degree rule: Moon in 1st house (not 12th). Papakartari by 2 retrograde malefics. D30 Moon debil in 8H. D27 Rahu dominates Moon. Prashna D20: 9L Moon exalted = Chamunda/Gauri deity. D24: Mars dasha good; Rahu later = learning through struggle.
Time:

Key Weaknesses in Rasi Chart

1. Moon in Gandanta (Ashlesha nakshatra):

  • Moon at ~28.5° Gemini (appears to be in 12th house, but within 6° of lagna at 4.5° Cancer = actually in 1st house per ±15° rule)
  • Ashlesha = Sarpa nakshatra (serpent nakshatra) + Sarpa Drekkana
  • Moon also in Sarpa Trikona — an inauspicious trikona
  • "Gandanta planet in the 1st house shows some problem in the overall development"
  • Moon is doubly important here: (1) planet of mind/manas (2) Shobhavati (Moon is in his own sign Cancer, so he is also the Nakshatra dispositor — his own dispositor)
  • "Moon becomes not only the Maha Karaka but also Shobhavati — being Gandanta is really terrible when he has this double importance"

Moon and Mercury in Sarpa Trikonas:

  • Both Mercury (intellect/buddhi) and Moon (mind/manas) are afflicted by Sarpa Trikona placement
  • "The two planets of mind and intellect are both in Sarpa Trikonas — not auspicious trikonas"

2. Lagna lord in 8th house:

  • Lagna lord in 8th house with debilitated Mercury (Maraka)
  • Mercury also debilitated = intellect/communication problems
  • "Lagna lord with Maraka Mercury, debilitated, in 8th house can show some problems in intellectual development and communication"

3. Papakartari on Lagna:

  • Saturn (6th lord) and Mars (8th lord) = both functional malefics
  • Both are retrograde → "2 retrograde malefics having Katari on lagna = bad affliction"
  • Mandi and Gulika also in lagna = additional affliction

4. Longevity concerns (separate from autism):

  • 8th lord Jupiter in 7th house
  • Saturn (7th lord) in 2nd house aspecting 8th house
  • Lagna lord in 8th house with 2nd lord (Maraka)
  • "These 3 combinations are not great for ensuring long life — there is danger to life that needs attention"

D30 Trimsamsa — Suffering Chart

Moon in D30:

  • Debilitated in 8th house
  • In Maraka sthana (2nd or 7th in Trimsamsa context — here 8th is used as a Dusthana)
  • Aspected by Saturn (Bhadaka lord) with 3rd aspect
  • "Moon in 8th house in debility in the chart of suffering = serious affliction; main problem is Moon"

Note: Mercury in D30 = not showing major problems for intellect

D27 Bhamsa — Mental Strengths and Weaknesses

D27 significations (planets, not houses primarily):

Planet in D27Shows
MarsEnergy and initiative at subconscious/instinctual level
MoonClarity and stability of the mind (Manobala)
MercuryLearning ability
JupiterDiscrimination (Dhisakti)
VenusSpirit of happiness
SaturnSpirit of hard work / perseverance

For Pranay in D27:

  • Moon conjoined by Rahu in Rahu's own sign → Rahu dominates Moon completely → "Moon is very weak; mind is not really a strong mind"
  • "In the chart of strengths and weaknesses, in the chart of vulnerabilities, Moon is badly afflicted"

Moon's Role in Autism

PVNR's teaching on weak Moon and autism:

  • Mercury = analytical intellect (buddhi) — NOT the primary problem here
  • Jupiter = discrimination (dhisakti) — also not primarily affected
  • Moon = the observer — the mind that interacts with and reacts to the world
  • "When Moon is very weak, the process of receiving stimuli and correlating sounds, images, and expressions into a coherent picture of the world is disturbed"
  • "Oversensitivity follows: too scared of some things, too drawn to others. Polarity reactions. Not a fundamental intellectual deficiency but a reception problem."

PVNR's practical advice:

"Stimulate the mind externally. Talk to him constantly, expose him to many situations, don't let him retreat into routine. Break his shell gently. The mind can learn to correlate inputs if the stimuli are provided abundantly and consistently."

— PVNR

Remedies

1. Gandanta Shanti: For Moon in Ashlesha Gandanta — Parashara prescribes Gandanta Shanti puja (homam with Sarpa/Ashlesha nakshatra deity, with Vedic mantras for Moon)

2. Chamundeshwari:

  • Moon with Mars (debilitated); Moon in Sarpa nakshatra + Sarpa Drekkana; Mars = slightly fierce energy
  • Chamunda (warrior goddess) appropriate for Moon-Mars-Sarpa combination
  • Chamundeshwari Stotra or Navarna Mantra daily

3. Naga Abhishekam:

  • Moon in Ashlesha (Sarpa lord); Mercury in Sarpa Trikona; Moon in Scorpio in D30 (Sarpa-type sign)
  • Get a small silver or copper snake idol (Nagabeyota)
  • Pour milk on it daily every morning
  • Chant "Om Nageshwaram" while pouring milk
  • OR chant Sarpa Suktam / Ashtashana Mantra (from Navagraha Stotra) while doing abhishekam

D20 Prashna for deity confirmation:

  • In prashna chart D20: 9th lord = Moon, exalted in 7th house, aspecting Lagna
  • "9th lord Moon exalted and aspecting lagna in D20 of Prashna → Moon/Gauri/Parvati worship will help"
  • Same conclusion from natal + prashna → Chamunda or Gauri/Parvati

PVNR general principle:

"When using Prashna for remedies, look at the D20 of the Prashna chart. The 5th lord shows the upasana that can help; the 9th lord shows how God's grace can come for this specific issue. Use D20 Prashna to find the remedy deity."

15-Degree House Rule

Teaching: "The lagna is the middle of a house, not the start. Any planet within ±15° of the lagna degree is considered to be in the 1st house."

Application: Moon at 28.5° Gemini + Lagna at 4.5° Cancer = only 6° difference → Moon is in the 1st house, not the 12th.
