7th House as Extrovert Lagna

"One is the introvert concept of self, the other is the extrovert concept of self. One is shown by Lagna, the other is shown by the 7th house."

• Some of Jaimini's principles speak of "lagna or the 7th house". Narayana Dasha starts from either.
• If the 7th house is the stronger, the native's personality can be judged from the 7th house.
• For status, look at Arudha Lagna or the arudha of the 7th house.
• The wife is one sub-case. The meaning of the 7th house is desire and interaction with the world, and the world judges you by your interactions.
• If the planet showing your interactions is exalted and with functional benefics, the company is rich and so, probably, are you.

Karaka vs Lord vs Occupant — the Project Manager Analogy

• Karaka = the project manager, finally responsible for the matter. Venus is the project manager for getting the native married and keeping the marriage happy.
• House lord = a group manager who owns resources the project needs.
• Planets in the house = people working on the project.

"If somebody is working on that project, it doesn't mean they want to make that project successful."

• Venus as 7th lord in the 7th: the project manager owns the group and works on the project himself — "a hands-on project manager". Success is very likely unless a much stronger malefic dominates him.
• Karaka and lord on good terms → "things will fly". Not on good terms → "the project is a disaster".
• 7th lord in the 7th but an enemy of Venus: his idea of the 7th house differs from Venus's. Mars in own sign in the 7th may give business; Rahu in own sign in the 7th may give a lot of foreign travel. The 7th is business and foreign travel as well as marriage. Such a planet need not deny marriage; he stresses another side of the house.
• An occupant can still deliver: the 3rd lord in the 7th is the lord of another kama trikona and may want to give marriage. If he is a good friend of Venus and Venus aspects him, his dasha with Venus antardasha can bring marriage even when the 7th lord is not conducive.
• Agenda decides:
  • 7th lord in the 6th — his agenda is to give marriage. Placed in the house of separation he gives setbacks, but he will not break the marriage.
  • 6th lord in the 7th — his agenda is to break. Put in charge of the house, "he will wait till you leave and then he will break the house."
  • Both are bad, in different ways. A student points out that the 8th house, more than the 6th, marks the end of a marriage; the 6th is a short break, compromises, quarrels. The teacher agrees.
• The dasha has to come. A planet that wants to give the result cannot give it before his time.
• This is why Parashara gives so much weight to the relationships between planets: look at the relationship between the karaka, the lord and the planets in or aspecting the house.

Kendradhipati Dosha — Clarification

A student takes it to mean the 7th lord sitting in the 7th or the 4th. The teacher corrects him.

• Ownership is the problem; where the planet sits is irrelevant to the dosha. A natural benefic who owns a kendra becomes a functional malefic.
• If he sits in the kendra he owns, that makes it better. It gives relief.

Example — Virgo lagna: Jupiter owns two kendras, the 4th and the 7th, and is a functional malefic.

• He is not an auspicious planet for the lagna. Through a vehicle, or the marriage, or another matter of the houses he owns, trouble can come to the native. Which house he occupies and which planets he afflicts show where.
• For the 4th and 7th themselves he is a good planet. His agenda is to give comfort and marriage. Taking the 4th or the 7th as lagna, he is the lagna lord.
• If this Jupiter joins Venus, verse 3 applies: a functional malefic is afflicting Venus, and there can be trouble to the wife.
• If he is in Sagittarius or Pisces he is in a kendra in own sign and gives Hamsa Mahapurusha yoga. (Venus so placed gives Malavya, Mars Ruchaka; each of the five planets has one.)

"7th lord in 7th is not really bad. It can actually be a saving grace — unless the planet happens to be Rahu or Saturn or Mars."

Functional Benefics and Malefics (Parashara's Rules)

Taught in the middle of the chart reading in Part 3, when a student calls the 8th-lord Sun a malefic.

• A planet owning two houses: take the average. Neutral + malefic = malefic. Benefic + malefic = neutral.
• Moon's natural status depends on the paksha. Jupiter and Venus are always benefic, Mars and Saturn always malefic.
• The 8th lord is neutral by this rule, though the 8th is a dusthana. With a second lordship he can be a functional malefic: Mercury for Scorpio lagna (8th and 11th lord) is one even when debilitated.
