A Prediction From an Earlier Class Confirmed

• Two classes earlier the class had worked a puzzle chart posted on an astrology mailing list: what happened to the native on a given date in late January.
• The class had concluded he was laid off, and that the matter was actually settled at the beginning of January. The native confirmed both.

Must Rahu or Ketu be in the 9th house for a foreign trip to come in the Narayana Dasha of that sign?

Answer: No — a Link Is Enough

• Rahu or Ketu need not be in the 9th. Links between the 9th house, the 9th lord, Rahu/Ketu and the house of foreign lands are sufficient.
• The two houses to look at are the 9th and the 12th. Rahu is the karaka.
• It can be Rahu in the 12th, or simply the 9th lord with Rahu.
• See it in the Rasi and the D-4.

The Project Analogy

The teacher goes back to the office analogy of the first classes:

• The 9th house = the project (taking the native abroad).
• Planets in the 9th = the people working hands-on in that project.
• The 9th lord = the group manager (people manager) of those workers. Planets in a house do what their dispositor says.
• Rahu, the karaka = the project manager. It is his agenda. He does not have to sit in the project.

"If the group manager and project manager are buddies, they always go to lunch together and stick together, then there is a good chance that they will work together and they will make sure that the work will be done."

So if the 9th lord is with Rahu, Rahu gets his job done. When confused, go back to these analogies from the beginning classes.

• Only certain parts of Indiana follow the same clock rules, so the automatic choice can be wrong.
• Rule: always check the time zone when you are given data. Whether the software finds it or you find it elsewhere, it must be right.

"The time zone has to be accurate. If it is off, your chart will be off by an hour."

The Chart

• Rasi lagna Taurus, navamsa lagna Cancer, dasamsa lagna Leo.
• The teacher's caution at the end of the chart: he knows the Rasi, navamsa and dasamsa lagnas fit; he has not verified the higher divisions.

The exercise: look at the dasamsa and guess the work. Engineer, artist, politician?

10th House and Its Lord

• D-10 lagna Leo. The 10th house (Taurus) is empty, so go to its lord.
• 10th lord Venus is in Scorpio, the 4th house, with Jupiter.
• A student calls Venus weak because Jupiter and Venus are enemies. The teacher accepts the enmity but asks what the conjunction is: 10th lord Venus with 5th lord Jupiter = Raja Yoga.
• Both aspect the 10th house from the 4th (graha drishti, the 7th aspect).
• Lagna lord Sun is in the 5th house (Sagittarius): abilities, popularity, recognition.
• Jupiter is also the dispositor of the lagna lord, so he has control over the lagna lord. The Venus–Jupiter combination is very potent.

"So even though they are enemies, there is a Raj Yoga given by the 10th lord."

First conclusion: this is not an ordinary person. He is successful and well known.

Which House Gives the Career

• Compare the 2nd, 6th and 10th. Here the 10th is strong: its lord is in a Raja Yoga and aspects it.
• So the career is given by Venus. Venus gives several careers; entertainment is one of them. The class settles on entertainer.

Service or Business

• A student: Mars is in the 6th, so he is in service. The teacher accepts it.
• But he could have his own business too: A10 is in the 7th house. A10 is the actual formal career; it sits in the house of desire.
• A student suggests government service because of Jupiter. The teacher does not take it up; he turns the class to which planet shows the career.

Comparison With Aishwarya Rai's D-10

• Her dasamsa also has Leo lagna with 10th lord Venus and 5th lord Jupiter conjoined — but in Sagittarius, the 5th house. Here they are in Scorpio, the 4th, aspecting the 10th.
• The 10th house is what you actually achieve. The 5th house is the following and adulation you get for it.
• If the two lords are together, the adulation corresponds to the work done.
• If the 5th lord is stronger than the 10th lord, the person gets more following than he deserves. If the 10th is stronger, he achieves more.
• Her yoga is in the 5th, and her 10th lord is in the 8th from the 10th house. She has the bigger, crazier following; what she achieved is less than what this native achieved.

Exalted Mars in the 6th

• Mars is in Capricorn, the 6th house. Forget exaltation first: only three houses are really good for Mars — 3, 6 and 11. Mars in the 6th of any chart overcomes all obstacles in that matter.
• Is exaltation good? See the lordship first.

• From Leo, Mars is the 4th and 9th lord — Yogakaraka. 4th: comfort, happiness, direction. 9th: dharma, protection, fortune.
• Exalted 9th lord in the dasamsa = a lot of luck. Lucky breaks come easily.
• A weak, afflicted or debilitated 9th lord = no such protection. Those people have to work hard for their breaks.
• The 5th and 9th houses have to do with easy chances.

The Image: Arudha Lagna of the D-10

• The image the public has of him comes through his work, so it is read from the AL of the dasamsa, not of the Rasi. AL is only image and perception; it does not show intelligence.
• The AL of the D-10 is in Aries, with Ketu. Ketu in AL: the "headless" image — either a crazy eccentric or a spiritual person. When the name is revealed the class finds the image fitting.
• The AL is in a sign of Mars: he can be seen as a leader in his field, a dynamic go-getter.
• Planets in trines to AL are good for the image. Mercury (Leo) and Sun (Sagittarius) are in the 5th and 9th from AL. In Mercury dasha or Sun dasha the image gets a boost or is protected, even if there are problems.
• The Raja Yoga planets Venus and Jupiter aspect AL by rasi drishti (Scorpio aspects Aries). So the work he does and the recognition he gets build his image directly.
• If the Raja Yoga planets had nothing to do with AL, the good work would not show up as image. Someone with the same dasamsa but AL elsewhere may do good karma and not be well known.
• On AL, take rasi drishti more than graha drishti. These are permanent, whole-life influences.

D-10 Narayana Dasha: When He Rose

The dasamsa Narayana Dasha is worked out in Part 8. Reading it by the 1st principle only:

• Sagittarius dasha, August 1986 – August 1997. Sagittarius is the 5th house of power, ability and following, and it holds the lagna lord Sun. This is the dasha in which he becomes very popular.
• Capricorn dasha (before it) holds the exalted 9th lord Mars: a lucky break.
• Scorpio dasha (after it) holds the Raja Yoga of Venus and Jupiter: also good.
• Capricorn, Sagittarius and Scorpio are the three signs the D-10 reading focused on, and they are the dashas in which he rose and stayed a big name.

D-9 Analysis — Musical and Artistic Talent

What the Navamsa Shows

• Navamsa is the chart of abilities and of dharma. It is abilities that decide your dharma.
• Planets in trines in the navamsa show the basic abilities. The navamsa lagna is your ability.
• Navamsa only shows that the ability exists. Whether he actually becomes a singer or a poet is seen from the Rasi and the dasamsa: dasamsa is what he does in society.

Sun and Moon = Music

• Sun and Moon both show musical ability, when in a trine or influencing the lagna.
• Moon = singing, the sense of melody.
• Sun = beats and rhythm, the sense of beat.
• In singers' charts there is a strong influence of Sun and Moon on the navamsa lagna, or they are in trines. One of the two in a trine is enough to make a musician.

In This Chart

• Navamsa lagna is Cancer, the Moon's sign. Sun is in the lagna.
• Lagna lord Moon is exalted (in Taurus).
• So Sun and Moon both influence the lagna. He could very well be a singer.
• Jupiter is in the 5th (Scorpio), the other planet in a trine to the navamsa lagna. Planets in trines are the talents.

Does He Write His Own Lyrics?

• Look at the 3rd house of the navamsa for Venusian influence.
• Venus is the poet: writing with imagination, poetry. Mercury is the writer: essays, articles, scholarly prose.
• Venusian influence on the 3rd gives poetic ability — ability, not necessarily a poet.
• Here it is not seen. The teacher: "You don't really see that he has poetic ability."
