House Sale Revisited (Example Chart, 1955) — D4 A4+A11 Analysis, Mercury Sarala Yoga, Narayana Dasha 4-Quarter Subdivision

Situation: The native has moved to North Carolina. He put his old house on sale and has not been able to sell it. Question: when will it sell?

• Some students had already done a prashna on this at a puja in July, mentally, without a computer. They got: within about three months, something sudden, and some compromise. The teacher now reads it from the native's own chart.

Vimshottari — Which Pratyantar Dasha

• Running: Saturn mahadasha, Jupiter antardasha, Saturn pratyantar dasha. Mercury pratyantar comes next.
• The older software gave October 15 as the start of Mercury pratyantar. The teacher's new version gives November 3. The new version uses an ayanamsa measured on a fixed plane instead of an oscillating one, so every planet's longitude shifts by a slightly different amount. Vimshottari dates move, and a Tithi Pravesh time can move by 5 to 10 minutes. (The chart cast on this page shows the same placements as the class.)
• Lagna of D4 is Aquarius.

Saturn — a student proposes Saturn as the strongest candidate: lagna lord, exalted in Libra in the 9th in rasi.

• That only makes Saturn a strong planet. He can show fortune, he can show moving to a different place.
• For selling a house, look at A4 in D4. A4 is in Leo, with Rahu.
• Saturn is in Cancer, the 12th from A4. The 12th is giving up — it can be selling, or it can be just leaving. He has already left the house. Saturn's result may already have been given. It does not have to mean a sale.
• A sale means giving up the house and gaining money from it. A11 is in the same sign as A4 (Leo). A4 and A11 together show a tangible gain from a dealing with the house.
• But Saturn is in the 12th from that A11 as well. He is not likely to give the gain.

Mercury — the better candidate.

• Mercury is in Virgo, the 8th from lagna: exalted, in own sign, lord of the 5th and 8th, a functional benefic. The 8th lord in the 8th gives Sarala yoga. A benefic in the 8th can show a sudden gain, a windfall. (The students' prashna had also shown suddenness.)
• From A4 and A11 he is in the 2nd house — a maraka sthana, and also the house of feeding. A functional benefic with argala on A11 can give a gain on account of selling the house, the money coming in.

"My feeling is, looking just at the Vimshottari Dasha, more than Saturn, Mercury seems more conducive."

• A student asks what the 4th lord in lagna, combust, means (Venus with the Sun in Aquarius in D4). The teacher sets it aside: it is a factor of the natal chart whose Vimshottari dasha is not running, so it does not matter much now.
• Vimshottari verdict: after November 3, give or take ten days.

Narayana Dasha of D4 — the Last Third in Four Quarters

• Pisces dasha is running, and within it the last one-third. That third gives the results of Jupiter, the lord, who is in Aries. It runs from December 2006 to September 2010 — three and three-quarter years.
• Divide Jupiter's period into four quarters:
  1. the house he occupies
  2. the houses he owns
  3. his yogas
  4. his exaltation and avastha
• First quarter, till December 1, 2007: Jupiter in the 3rd house. The 3rd is the 12th from the 4th — loss of the house. That need not mean selling it and making money; it can mean just moving away from it, which has already happened. So this result may already be given.
• Second quarter, December 1, 2007 to November 1, 2008: Jupiter as lord of the 2nd and 11th of D4. Can the 2nd and 11th lord give money on account of selling a house? Chances are strong.
• Executing the sale and getting the money is likely in this second quarter. On this reading it may take a few more months than Vimshottari suggested.
