Child's Chart (2004) — Hyperactivity/Shivering, D30 Root Cause, Dhatu Karakas & Mars (Nerve Tissue) vs Mercury (Nerve Communication)

Lagna: Scorpio 25°44'
Class date: November 2007. The child has just turned 3. Jupiter entered Sagittarius two days before.

The question (from the father):

• The child is hyperactive in general.
• At times he suddenly shivers, as if afraid or in a trance, and then shouts once. Often in the morning after getting up, but it can happen any time. It has been so almost since birth.
• Is this a health or mental problem, or is it something like Kundalini energy flowing that he cannot take?

The four possibilities the teacher sets out:

1. A physical nerve problem.
2. A mental problem.
3. A subconscious disturbance — a memory of a past life.
4. Some energy flowing that the person is not prepared to handle.

Which Dasha

• Sun is in lagna → use Ṣaṣṭihāyanī (Shashtihayani) daśā instead of Vimshottari. It gives the best results for him.
• He was running Rahu daśā from before birth until September 30, 2007. Then Jupiter daśā started.
• A student's point: for mental ills, Vimshottari still gives results. The teacher agrees, but adds that a daśā-dependent result must show in Shashtihayani too.
• All nakshatra daśās — Shashtihayani, Chaturashiti-sama, Dwisaptati-sama, Vimshottari, Ashtottari, Yogini — are reckoned from Moon's nakshatra (Kalachakra from Moon's navamsa). All of them are about the mind: its strength, its weakness, its phase.
• The problem began in Rahu daśā and continues in Jupiter daśā. Conclusion: it is lifelong. It is in the chart itself, not in the current daśā.

Rasi Chart Analysis

Weakness for health:

• Lagna lord Mars is in the 12th house with the 12th lord Venus and Ketu.
• 8th lord Mercury is in lagna. A dusthana lord in lagna and the lagna lord in another dusthana: some problem for health.
• The daśā that gives the health trouble may not have started yet. Health can be a concern in future.

Spirituality:

• Lagna lord in the 12th with Ketu, the moksha karaka, and with the 12th lord → deeply spiritual, with a high level of detachment. It will not show in a child; it will show as he grows.
• Moon, the 9th lord of dharma, is in the 5th house of mantra, and the 5th lord Jupiter aspects him (graha dṛṣṭi, from Virgo). The 5th and 9th lords aspecting each other is a good yoga for dharma.
• Saturn — conservative, traditional, orthodox — is in the 9th house of dharma → highly dharmic.
• Some people with a strong 12th house are detached but not religious. Here both are present. He will engage in dharma, but with detachment from it.

"Here there are strong combinations for both religiousness in the orthodox sense as well as spirituality in the sense of understanding what actually things stand for."

Scorpio lagna with Sun in it:

• Scorpio is water ruled by a fiery planet. Think of it as ice.
• Sun in lagna and Mars owning the lagna: much inner fire, meaning resolve and strength of mind.
• Unlike Aries and Leo, it does not show. Scorpio people look cool and casual, but they are thinking under the surface about how to get done what they want done. They are secretive.

D30 (Trimshamsa) Analysis

"The root of all the problems, whether physical or mental or subconscious, the root of all the problems is the D30."

• D30 shows the subconscious vulnerabilities and the sins of the past. D6 shows the physical event.

Lagna and its lords (D30 lagna is Scorpio):

• Lagna lords Mars and Ketu are both in friendly signs. That is a saving grace.
• Lagna itself holds Mercury (and Mandi, which may not be accurate). Mercury is the 8th lord in D30 and the 8th lord in Rasi as well. He is the one bent on giving suffering.
• Health is unlikely to be perfect, most of all when Mercury gets control. By Vimshottari, Mercury daśā runs 2022–2039. Be careful then.
• 6th house: Venus is there. Nothing bad.

Depression:

• Moon and Saturn are together in the 7th house (Taurus), aspecting lagna.
• Moon is the bādhaka lord (9th lord for a fixed lagna) and he is exalted. A bādhaka lord should not be exalted: he is happy because he gets his chance to give trouble.
• He is with Saturn, the planet of sadness. People with Moon afflicted by Saturn in D30 are vulnerable to depression.
• So there will be bouts of depression in some periods, possibly clinical depression when the right daśā comes.
• It will not destroy him. Moon is also the 9th lord of protection.
• Moon is the 9th lord in the 5th house of mantra in Rasi, so the depression can have a religious angle — "I am not able to see God". Some great saints were depressed for years for this reason.

Three causes of shivering tested in D30:

• A shock from a past life (for example a violent death) resurfacing. This needs Rahu–Ketu influence on Moon. Rahu has only an argala. And Rahu is no troublemaker here: he is the 4th lord in his own sign Aquarius with lagna lord Ketu. Not seen.
• Accumulated anger being released. This needs Mars or Ketu on Moon. Mars has no influence on Moon; Ketu has only an argala. Not seen.
• A student's point: the lagna lord of D30 is the pāpa-puruṣa, so Mars and Ketu show it. The teacher's reply: Mars and Ketu are lagna lords in Rasi too. They have no agenda to harm the person.
• A nerve problem. This is what the chart shows. See the next part.

The afflictors in this D30: not Rahu and Ketu (own sign), but the bādhaka lord Moon with Saturn, and the 8th lord Mercury in lagna.

The 7 Dhatus (Body Tissues) — Planetary Karakas

The teacher revises the tissues with the class:

Rahu and Ketu show no tissue. They show the eating away of all the tissues, so that you forget the body and get moksha.

Mars vs Mercury in Nervous Problems

A student asks: Mars is the karaka of nerve tissue, yet we say Mercury afflicted by Rahu and Ketu makes a person nervous. Why?

• Mars is the nerve tissue — the electricity wire, the telegraph wire.
• Mercury is the communication in the nerves — the message carried, the flow and regulation of energy.
• Mars afflicted in D30 = infrastructure problem. The teacher has seen charts with Mars badly afflicted in Trimshamsa and nerve pain: the nerves are too dry, the majja is not enough, and there is pain when current flows.
• Mercury afflicted in D30 = a problem in the use of the nervous system. The brain controls that use. So there is some deficiency in the brain that unbalances the nerve current at times.
• In this chart Mars is not weak. Mercury is the problem. The tissue is not misformed; the regulation of the current is deficient. That can cause what the father sees. "That is one diagnosis, that is a definite possibility."

"Mars afflicted means infrastructure problem. Mercury afflicted means the use of that infrastructure, the use of the nervous system."

Reading Dhatus from D30

• To see which dhatu is vulnerable, look at the sign, not the planet. The dhatus are inanimate; planets show the animate side.
• See where the bad combinations of Trimshamsa fall — Rahu–Ketu, the 8th lord and the like — and take the tattva of that sign. In Trimshamsa the tattva goes by the sign's owner:
  • Mars's signs (Aries, Scorpio) → agni tattva → nerve problems. Any nervous problem has to be fiery.
  • Mercury's signs (Gemini, Virgo) → bhū (pṛthvī) tattva → bone problems.
  • Venus's signs (Taurus, Libra) → jala tattva → blood ailments, and stability of the mind. A hormonal imbalance is a jala imbalance and can make the mind unstable at times.
• In this chart: Scorpio holds the 8th lord Mercury, who afflicts lagna, and Mandi. The fire element is disturbed → a nervous problem.

Dog Attack Analysis (June 2007) — D6/D30

Event: attacked by a neighbour's dog in early June 2007.

Chart used: the Tithi Pravesha chart of the previous year (2006–07), with its own D30 and D6 — not the natal chart.

Daśā: Rahu's period in that annual chart ran from May 31 to July 9. The event falls in Rahu–Rahu.

A student asks why D30 and not D6 for a physical incident.

"If you are not vulnerable at a particular point of time subconsciously, nothing in the physical world can do anything to you."

• The vulnerability exists because of a past sin. So D30 is the chart of vulnerabilities and of sins, and the root cause of every physical suffering.
• D30 does not show what the event physically is. That is seen in D6.

D30 of the annual chart (Virgo lagna):

• Lagna lord Mercury is the 8th lord of the Rasi chart.
• Rahu is with him (Libra, with Ketu) → suffering in Rahu's period.

D6 of the annual chart (Scorpio lagna):

• Rahu is with lagna lord Ketu and with the 8th lord Mercury.
• Saturn is in the 6th house → a problem from animals.

Why a dog:

• The dog is Saturn's animal. Rahu shows wild animals, cats, tigers.
• Why Rahu's period gave a dog, the teacher cannot say for sure. Saturn and Rahu are very similar and Rahu sometimes gives Saturn's results. Rahu is also the more afflicted one here, being with the 8th lord.

Birth Time Accuracy — PVNR's Standard

Why it matters here: Vimshamsa (D20) is the chart of upasana. If the birth were 1 minute 7 seconds earlier, the Vimshamsa lagna would change. So the teacher gives no reading of the kind of sadhana or path, and reserves it until the time is confirmed by events.

What the father noted: 8:30, by an ordinary watch not set against a standard, at the moment he saw the child fully out. The cord was not yet cut. The child cried after that.

"This is a nice round figure, 8:30 ... it suggests that not enough care was taken."

PVNR's own practice: before his child's birth he set his clock by an atomic clock to within a second or two, and noted the second of each stage, to see later which works better:

1. The head showing (śiro-darśana)
2. Coming out fully (bhū-patana)
3. The cord being cut
4. The first cry

Other points:

• The father was reciting the Purusha Sukta at the birth. "Very good."
• The family deity and the grama devata could not be used to check Vimshamsa: the family does not know its deity, and the town has no defined grama devata.
• Vimshamsa as cast has Moon debilitated in the 7th.
