Lagna–10th Lord Relationship

Parashara closes the 10th house chapter by saying that from the relationship between lagna lord and the 10th lord the rest can be worked out by oneself.

"Lagna is yourself and the 10th is your work. So the link between them is very important."

• Lagna lord shows the intelligence of the person and how he applies it. 10th lord shows the work accomplished — the intelligence applied to work.
• Lagna lord with 10th lord in lagna (v.15): a Raja Yoga; the person is deeply involved in his work.
• Lagna lord in the 10th (v.21): intelligence applied towards work; a good body of work left behind.
• Lagna lord in a quadrant (v.19): intelligence directed towards effort and activity.

Arudha Placement from Arudha Lagna

Taught on verse 21 (10th lord in the 9th, lagna lord in the 10th): A10 is in the 8th from lagna — not good per se — but AL is in the 4th, so A10 is in the 5th from AL.

"Not just the placement of an arudha from lagna, but the placement of an arudha from Arudha Lagna is very important. It is perhaps more important."

From lagna itself:

• Arudhas falling in quadrants or trines from lagna are blessed (A10 in lagna, v.15). Any arudha pada in the 9th house is greatly blessed (A11 in the 9th, v.20).
• An arudha falling in a dusthana such as the 6th is bad for that arudha (A10 in the 6th, v.17: the work suffers; obstacles and enemies).
• A11 in the 2nd (v.3 of Ch. 22): tangible gains sit in the house of accumulation and are not dissipated.
• When A10 is in lagna, the person does some good work relating to the planets occupying it.
• Even when the work is bad or troubled, the image may be fine if planets are well placed from AL.

7th House for Work with Others

From verse 18. The 7th is the 10th from the 10th (karma-bhāt karma).

"In order to accomplish anything considerable, typically you have to work with others, you have to deal with others."

• 7th house weak or afflicted by malefics = not auspicious for associating with other people and doing good work. You are alone.
• The verse needs all three: a malefic in the 7th, a malefic in the 10th, and the 10th lord debilitated. Then the work is handicapped.

Artha Trikonas and Kama Trikonas

• Houses 2, 6 and 10 are the Artha Trikonas. They show your work, the resources you have, how you put the resources to use, and what you finally get accomplished.
• The 10th lord in the 2nd, 6th or 10th (v.19) links two Artha Trikonas: the person actually gets something done.
• In the same way the 11th lord in the 3rd links two Kama Trikonas (Ch. 22 v.4): initiative joined to gains — a go-getter.
• Moon in the 10th, or any link between Moon and the 10th house, is good for fame and for activity known to many people. Moon symbolizes society.
