BPHS Ch.29 Final Verses — Mercury in 2H from AL = Ruler-Level Status; Venus in 2H = Kavir-Vadi Poet/Orator; A7 in Kendra/Kona from AL = Wealthy+Famous, 6/8/12 = Low Status; Master Rule: All Padas in Kendra/Kona from AL Flourish; Arudha Padas = Aspects of Native's Own Self (NOT Separate People)
Verse 30 — Mercury in 2H from AL: "ruler of entire realm; extremely knowledgeable; all-round high status" (Saumya = Mercury specifically here; Venus separately mentioned = distinct results). Venus in 2H from AL: Kavir-vadi = "excellent poet OR brilliant debater/orator" (eloquence, linguistic mastery). Verse 31 — A7 (Darapada) in kendra/kona from AL: wealthy + nationally famous (Sreeman + Desha vikhatiman). "A7 = not just wife but how you interact with the world — if king walks around, people flock; strong A7 = person's interactions increase their status." A7 with strong planet (Sabala graha) = also wealthy+famous. A7 in 6/8/12 from AL = less wealthy; interactions pull down status. Verse 32 — marital happiness: strong well-associated planet in AL itself, or 7th from AL, or kendra/upachaya/trikona → happiness from spouse. PVNR: "secondary indicator for marital happiness; primary = Ch.30 (Upapada)." Verse 33 — A7 in kendra/kona/3rd/11th from AL = friendship between spouses; A7 in 6/8/12 = enmity. Verse 34 — master rule (Ch.29 conclusion): "From Arudha Lagna, see Dhanapada and all padas placed in various houses. Kendra/kona from AL = flourishes; 6/8/12 = suffers; 3rd/11th = also good (upachaya/growth)." Ch.29 philosophical summary: "Upada (UL) is not the wife — it is the marriage as an aspect of the native's own personality. A5, A7, UL — all Arudha padas are aspects of the native's own self, not separate people." Caution on SJC teachings: "'AL in 12th from UL = native ignores wife' — Parashara does NOT say this. Keep an open mind. Parashara says: UL in kendra/kona from AL = marriage aspect of the person flourishes; in 6/8/12 = suffers."
"These are aspects of the native's own personality. The Upapada is not the wife. It is the marriage as an aspect of who you are. A7 is not the wife either — it is how you interact with the world. All these padas are aspects of your own self, projected outward in different directions. Whatever house they fall in from Arudha Lagna determines whether that aspect of your personality flourishes or suffers."
— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao
BPHS Ch.29 Verses 30-34 — Final Rules on Arudha Padas
Verse 30 — Mercury/Benefic in 2nd from AL
Sanskrit: "Arudha dvitashe yo sarva desha adhi po bhavet sarva jñau ye diva sasyat kavir vadi ja bhargavet"
| Planet in 2nd from AL | Result |
|---|---|
| Mercury (Saumya = Mercury here) | Ruler of entire realm; extremely knowledgeable; all-round high status |
| Venus (Bharga = Venus) | Kavir-vadi = excellent poet OR brilliant debater/orator |
Note: Saumya here is interpreted as Mercury specifically (not any generic benefic) because Venus is separately mentioned afterward. Mercury gives status + knowledge; Venus gives eloquence.
Verse 31 — A7 (Darapada) from Arudha Lagna
Condition 1: Darapada in kendra or kona from Arudha Lagna
OR Condition 2: A7 occupied by a strong planet (Sabala graha — "having strength", not necessarily exalted)
Result: Person is wealthy AND has wide fame in the country (Sreeman + Desha vikhatiman)
Why?:
— PVNR"A7 is not just the wife — it is how you interact with the world. If a king walks around, people flock to him; a normal person walks around, nobody cares. Strong A7 in kendra/kona = person's interactions with the world increase their status. When they meet people, people recognize them as great, rich, or famous."
Negative: If A7 is in 6th, 8th, or 12th from AL → person has less wealth; interactions pull down their status.
Verse 32 — Happiness from Spouse
Condition: In the pada (AL itself), OR in the 7th from AL, OR in kendra, upachaya (3rd/11th), or trikona — if a strong planet is well-placed with good associations (Subiriya samchidha kehatah) → happiness from husband or wife (Bharya bhartu sukha pradaha)
Context: This is a secondary (not primary) indicator for marital happiness. The proper chapter for marriage is Ch.30 (Upapada). Arudha Lagna shows overall status — marital happiness is a downstream effect.
Verse 33 — Relationship Quality (AL and Darapada)
If Darapada (A7) is in kendra, kona, 3rd, or 11th from Arudha Lagna → friendship between spouses (Dvayoh maitri bhavet nunam)
If Darapada is in 6th, 8th, or 12th from Arudha Lagna → enmity between spouses (Trikaye vairam nasamsayah)
Verse 34 — General Summary Rule (Ch.29 Conclusion)
Sanskrit: "Evam lagna pada atvipra tanayadi pade sthite evam lagnapada deva mitra vijayaniya lavaha labho bhujakshnaha"
— PVNR"From Arudha Lagna, see Dhanapada and all other padas placed in various houses. Where they are placed determines the result: profit or loss, friendliness or enmity."
The master rule that closes Ch.29:
- Any Arudha Pada in kendra or kona from AL → that area of life flourishes
- Any Arudha Pada in 6th, 8th, or 12th from AL → that area of life suffers
- 3rd and 11th from AL are also good placements for padas (growth/upachaya)
Ch.29 Philosophical Summary (PVNR)
— PVNR"Upada (UL) is not the wife. It is the marriage — which is part of the native's own personality. A5, A7, UL — all these Arudha padas are aspects of the native's own self. They are not separate people."
Caution on SJC teachings:
- "AL in 12th from UL = native ignores wife" and "UL in 12th from AL = wife ignores native" — Parashara does NOT say this specifically.
- Keep an open mind. What Parashara says: if UL is in kendra/kona from AL = marriage aspects of the person flourish; if in 6/8/12 = suffer.
Ch.29 is complete. Ch.30 (Upapada/Marriage) begins next class.
