Chart Analysis — CA Exam Student (D24)

The Question

• Lagna 10°40' Leo. Moon 0°18' Virgo.
• The native did B.Com (graduated 2005), then an MBA, and is now attempting the Chartered Accountancy final exam. He has sat it repeatedly for two years and failed each time.
• Another attempt is due in the next couple of months. He asks which deity to pray to.
• Education is read from D24. D24 lagna is Aries. It would be Pisces if birth were 2m45s earlier and Taurus if 2m24s later. The reading assumes the time is right within two minutes.

Which Daśā Applies

• In the rāśi chart the 10th from Leo is Taurus, and its lord Venus is in Taurus. 10th lord in the 10th: the conditional nakshatra daśā for that case applies (Chaturāśīti-sama daśā — the name is garbled in the recording).
• Jupiter daśā ran until 2005. Venus daśā is running; within it Saturn antardaśā is over and Sun antardaśā is running.
• Cross-check with the Narayana daśā of D24. It is started from the 4th lord. Scorpio has two lords, Mars and Ketu; in D24 Mars is in Scorpio itself, so Ketu is taken. Ketu is in Taurus, so the daśā starts from Taurus.

Bachelor's Degree — 9th House of D24

• The 9th house is bachelor's education. The 9th lord is Jupiter.
• The last three years of Jupiter daśā were the B.Com years.
• Jupiter shows money matters — economics, commerce, finance. He is with Saturn (both in Virgo): routine learning, nothing sophisticated.
• Narayana daśā: he joined B.Com in Leo daśā. The 9th (Sagittarius) has argala from one planet only — Sun in Capricorn, the 2nd from it. Sun is lord of Leo. So the degree can come in the daśā of Sagittarius, Virgo, Capricorn, or Leo.

Master's Degree — 2nd House of D24

• More specialised education is seen from the 2nd: the 6th from the 9th, the house of increase.
• The MBA began in 2005, as Venus daśā started. Venus is the 2nd lord and aspects the 2nd (graha dṛṣṭi, from Scorpio on Taurus).
• Venus and Sun are the planets of management. Sun is administrative management; Venus is detailed-planning management.
• Rahu and Ketu are in the 2nd and could have shown highly technical study. Venus dominated.
• A student asks about continuity between the two degrees. If the same planets gave both (B.Tech then M.Tech in one subject) there is a link. Here Jupiter and Saturn gave one and Venus the other — a discontinuity.
• Narayana daśā: Capricorn daśā. Capricorn aspects Taurus (the 2nd) and Venus in Scorpio by rāśi dṛṣṭi. The admission probably fell in the Taurus antardaśā, February–June.
• The sign daśā and the planetary daśā agree.

Competitive Professional Exam — 6th House of D24

The students explain that CA is not a course like B.Com or MBA. One is certified by passing the institute's exams, like CPA in the United States, and it can be done after B.Com without a master's.

"If you are taking a competitive exam relating to your learning, testing your learning with some competition, sizing your learning up with that of some competition, that has to be the 6th house in the D24 chart."

• The 6th is also the house of service and livelihood — an artha trikoṇa. For a professional exam the 10th is useful too. "10th and 6th are important."

In this chart:

• The 9th lord Jupiter is in the 6th. The exam he competes in extends his B.Com, not his MBA.
• The 6th lord is Mercury, the kāraka of accounting. Jupiter is the kāraka of financial institutions. Mercury and Jupiter on the 6th: a competitive exam in accounting and commerce.
• The 6th lord Mercury is in the 8th (Scorpio) with the 8th lord Mars: a Vipareeta Rāja Yoga. He will have to work hard, and at the end he may succeed in being certified.

AL and A5 Together in Gemini — Narayana Daśā of D24

• Capricorn daśā ran until recently. Gemini daśā has started.
• Gemini is owned by Mercury and aspects Virgo, the 6th (rāśi dṛṣṭi).
• Gemini holds AL and A5.
  • AL in D24 is the image of the person as far as learning goes.
  • A5 is the tangible article that reflects on his abilities: a certificate, an award, an Oscar, standing first in the country in an exam.

"How happy I am with my vehicle, you don't know. But A4 is my actual car. Looking at my car, people say, oh, he has a Benz, he is happy… Houses show internal things which people cannot put their finger on. The ārūḍha padas are tangible articles."

"The image of the person and the tangible article reflecting on the ability of the person are together. That is like a Rāja Yoga… he will achieve something tangible which will make the world think favorably of him with respect to learning."

• Divide the daśā into three parts: the first gives the results of the sign itself, the second those of its lord, the third those of the aspects on it (Saturn and Jupiter, from Virgo).
• The sign itself is capable, since it holds AL and A5. So he should succeed before February 2010.

Nakshatra Daśā — Venus / Sun / Mercury

• Sun antardaśā in Venus daśā: in D24 Sun is in the 10th house of achievement and is the 5th lord. A6, the ārūḍha of competition, is with Sun. There is a chance.
• Mercury pratyantardaśā: about late April to July 2009. Mercury is the 6th lord and 3rd lord, and the lord of the sign holding AL and A5.

"That is actually a more conducive period than the next couple of months. Even though he is sitting again in a couple of months, I would really put my money on that period — 2009 May, June, July."

Tithi Praveśa 2008

The annual chart begins June 11, 2008, 11:31:56 AM. It is read in its D24.

• D24 lagna of the year is Virgo. It changes two minutes later or three minutes earlier, and a small shift in birth time could make it Libra. The teacher assumes an error under two minutes and proceeds.
• Hora lord Sun rules the year. He is exalted in the 8th and is the 12th lord. Exaltation of the 12th lord is bad. The 12th lord in the 8th is good — a Vipareeta Rāja Yoga, frustration and then success. But he is with Venus, the 9th lord, which spoils it. Not conducive on that count.
• Lagna lord Mercury is in the 4th house of learning, in the Arudha Lagna. That is excellent. Mercury is the key planet for CA and for this native; in AL he can give the image "now he is an accountant". A8 is there too — a tangible sudden event.
• A6 is the tangible competition one takes part in; A5 is recognition of one's abilities. A5 and A6 are together in the 9th, and the lord of that sign, Venus, joins the ruler of the year.

"It is like your project lead has the ears of, has access to, the company CEO."

• So there is a chance this year.

Tithi Praveśa 2009

Read in D24 again, for comparison.

• Hora lord Mercury is in the 12th — not great.
• But lagna (Leo) holds its lord Sun, very strong, and Venus, the lord of the Arudha Lagna.
• A5, A9, A10 and A11 are together: abilities, fortune, a tangible event in education that bears on the profession, and a tangible gain.
• In 2008 A5 and A6 were together but their lord sat in the 12th from them. This is better.
• The 6th lord Saturn is in the 5th with Mars, the yogakāraka for Leo and the kāraka of fighting and competing. 9th lord and 7th lord form a Rāja Yoga in the 5th house of recognition.

"This seems like the year to me."

• This agrees with the Venus–Sun–Mercury pratyantardaśā of April–July 2009. If results can come in May–June 2009, he should aim at that. The teacher expects the results then, more than the exam.

What to Tell Him

• For the coming two months the 2008 chart runs Mercury's period — Mercury is lagna lord in the 4th. Favourable. He should try: nothing is lost by sitting again.
• The teacher's estimate: 20–25% now, 70–75% next year.
• Say it so that he tries now and does not lose hope if it fails.

"Always word it in such a way that they don't lose hope now, but if it doesn't happen, they don't lose hope forever."

Which Deity

• Remedies are chosen from the natal chart — here the natal D24 — not from the Tithi Praveśa chart.
• Mercury is the kāraka and the lord of the 6th house of competition. Pray to Mercury — that is, to Viṣṇu.
• Read the Viṣṇu Sahasranāma stotra every day.
• Do it with sampuṭīkaraṇa: wrap every verse with one chosen verse, said before and after it. The teacher wants a verse of the Sahasranāma itself that refers to vidyā and will send its number later.
  • Sampuṭīkaraṇa makes any mantra more powerful. The wrapping is like a container for food.
  • One who knows the stotra by heart can chant it on "cruise control", the mind elsewhere. Sampuṭīkaraṇa breaks the flow and forces the mind to stay.
  • It takes about one and a half times as long — 15 minutes becomes 20–25.
• For livelihood in general (not for this exam): the Amātyakāraka is Venus. In navāṁśa Venus is in Cancer; the 6th from him is Sagittarius, whose lord Jupiter is in Virgo. Jupiter shows Śiva. A mantra of Śiva is advised for a stable career.
• Mercury is also the Jñātikāraka — the kāraka of rivals and competitors.
