D7 Children, Palana Devata & Curses from Past Life
D7 (Saptamsha) children analysis of the student chart. Palana Devata: the sustenance deity found from the 6th house of the Amatyakaraka (AmK) in Navamsa — the divine force that sustains career and daily life. Curses from past life: how planetary afflictions (especially to 5H, 9H) indicate karmic debts from previous lives that manifest as blocks in current life.
"In Navamsa, 9th house doesn't show any boss. It shows your abilities and your dharma. In Dasamsa it shows your boss and hence your dharma in career."
— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao

Saptamsha (D7) Analysis for Children
How to Find the Lagna for a Specific Child (in Parent's D7)
- Note D7 lagna
- If odd sign: count forward (1, 2, 3... signs) to find each child's representative lagna
- 1st sign = lagna (parent's own karma)
- 5th sign from lagna = 1st child
- 9th sign (3rd from 5th) = 2nd child
- If even sign: count backward
— PVNR"Count backwards because it's an even sign. 5th from lagna shows the first child, third from that shows the second child."
How to Use the Child's Representative Lagna
- Take the lord of that sign (not the sign itself) as the lagna reference
- From that planet's sign in the D7, analyze the whole chart as if that planet's sign is the child's lagna
- The lord is the key reference: "Take the lord of that sign, not the sign itself as lagna."
Year chart for a specific child:
- In the TP chart, find where the child's representative lagna falls relative to the TP lagna
- If the child's representative lagna is in the 8H from TP lagna → sadness/separation/arguments about that child during the year
Key Principles Summarized
Birth Time Rectification Hierarchy
- Tithi Pravesha (TP) annual chart = most reliable for verifying event-years (Navamsa of TP for marriage; D10 of TP for career)
- Narayana Dasha = confirms which sign's dasha gave the event
- Vimshottari Dasha = good but imperfect; multiple candidates can give any event
- Physical characteristics can rule out certain Rashi lagnas quickly
— PVNR"If you give a lot of importance to the Tithi Pravesha chart, you cannot go wrong. And then reconcile with the Vimshottari dasha. The reconciliation needed is very minimal in the TP chart."
Tithi Astrotri Dasha for TP Chart
The dasha to be used specifically with Tithi Pravesha charts (not regular Vimshottari):
- Has its own period lengths
- Dashas of each planet show events within that year
- Hora Lord = ruler of the year = like the king of the year; that planet's dashas are most important
— PVNR"This is the dasha to be used with Kripa Vaisakha (Tithi Pravesha) charts. If you want to see what will happen during this particular year, you use this particular dasha."
Palana Devata (Sustenance Deity)
NEW concept introduced at the end of this lesson (from Book 1 notes):
- Palana Devata = the deity who gives livelihood and enough to sustain oneself
- How to find: Take AmK (Amatyakaraka) in D-1; look at the 6th from AmK in D-9 (Navamsa)
- The planet(s) in that sign, or the lord of that sign, shows the Palana Devata
Example from lesson (student chart):
- AmK = Venus
- 6th from Venus in Navamsa → Mars + Mercury are there → both show Palana Devata
- Mars + Mercury → same as Ishta Devata and Dharma Devata → Narasimha for all three
— PVNR"Pray to Lord Narasimha for overall success in life" — because all three (Ishta, Dharma, Palana) point to the same deity.
Summary of the three deities:
| Deity Type | How to Find | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Ishta Devata | 12th from AK in Navamsa | Moksha; liberation path |
| Dharma Devata | 9th from AK in Navamsa | Fulfilling the soul's duties |
| Palana Devata | 6th from AmK in Navamsa | Sustenance; livelihood; enough to live |
Curses from Past Life
Briefly mentioned at the end of Lesson 17 (extended in Lesson 18):
- When someone experiences job loss for a long time or unexplained persistent troubles, look for curses (shaapa) from past life
- The correct dasha system for seeing curses is Moola Dasa (not Vimshottari)
- Afflictions to Venus, 7th house, and 7th lord (by Mars, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu) = curse affecting marriage/relationships
