Saptamsha (D7) Analysis for Children

Finding One Child's Lagna

1. Odd saptamsha lagna: count forward. Even: count backward.
2. The 5th sign shows the first child. The 3rd from that shows the second child.
3. Do not take that sign as the lagna. Take the sign occupied by its lord.

"Not Pisces as lagna, but the lord as the lagna. That is the way to use saptamsa."

1. Read the whole saptamsha from there. For a quick reading go to what the eye falls on: an important yoga, or many planets in one house.

The First Child in the 2004 Annual Chart

• D7 lagna of the year is Cancer, even. Fifth backward is Pisces. Its lord Jupiter is in Aquarius. Aquarius is the child's lagna for the year.
• Jupiter in lagna: sattvic, drawn to Jupiterian subjects, wise and mature.
• Saturn, the lagna lord, is in the 11th with Ketu and aspects lagna. Ketu is exalted in Sagittarius. Saturn with Ketu: the son becomes like a tapasvi, a yogi. Spirituality becomes a main part of his life this year.
• Jupiter in lagna aspected by Saturn: the results of Brahma Yoga.
• 6th lord in the 12th (noted by a student): a Viparita Raj Yoga — overcoming obstacles at a faraway place.
• Venus (9th lord) and Mercury (5th lord) are together in the 9th: a Maha Raj Yoga in the house of dharma. A very important year for following dharma.
• Which dasha? Venus dasha was two days at the start of the year and is gone. Mercury dasha will be the pivotal one for dharma. Saturn dasha gives Saturn–Ketu: not dharma but the yogi.

Confirmed: the father had just taken this son to India to study the Vedas with a private teacher, left him there, and returned after the year began.

What the Parent Feels

• The annual lagna itself is the parent, as far as children go.
• The child's lagna, Aquarius, is in the 8th from the lagna of the year. A dusthana: he will miss the child, or there will be arguments, worry or disappointment on that child's account. Here they are apart.

What the Parent's Saptamsha Cannot Show

A student asked whether the separation and the Vedic study can be tied together from this chart.

"What you see in Saptamsa about a particular child is what is happening in his life from his point of view."

• Not everything in the child's life is here. If the son falls in love there, it may not show. For the rest, go to the child's own chart.

The First Child for the Whole Life — Natal D7

• Natal D7 lagna is Taurus, even. Fifth backward is Capricorn. Its lord Saturn is in Cancer. Cancer is the first child's lagna.
• Moon, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn are in Cancer. Moon and Venus are the strong ones: Venus is strong in a watery sign; Jupiter is exalted but retrograde and, as Moon's friend, strengthens Moon.
• Moon and Venus in lagna: sensitive, creative, imaginative — a poet or an artist, at least as the father sees him.
• Saturn and Venus in lagna with Ketu's rasi drishti from the 8th: Tapasya Yoga, and here for life, not for one year.
• Four planets in a kendra: Parivrajya Yoga (Part 11). The spirit of renunciation is in him. The father will see him as a sannyasi and may worry. Whether he becomes one has to be seen from the son's own chart.
• Sun dasha (2012–2018): from Cancer, Sun is in the 8th, in Aquarius, Rahu's sign, with Ketu. The 8th is also occult knowledge, and sign and companion both favour it. Sadhana, and yogic experiences that cannot be explained.
• Cancer is the 3rd from the natal D7 lagna. Not a dusthana. Through life this child's influence on the father is enthusing — it gives him determination and optimism.

Important Yogas from This Lesson

Tapasya Yoga

"Ketu gives detachment and Saturn gives hard work. So Ketu and Saturn being together makes the person a detached and disciplined person."

• Seen three times in the class: Venus under Saturn's rasi drishti in the native's D10; Saturn with Ketu from the child's lagna in the annual D7; Saturn and Venus with Ketu's rasi drishti in the natal D7.

Brahma Yoga

"If Jupiter and Saturn influence lagna, it gives the effect of Brahma yoga. Here Jupiter is in lagna aspected by Saturn, so he gets the results of Brahma yoga."

Parivrajya Yoga (Sannyasa Yoga)

"If you see 4 or more planets conjoined in any Kendra, that is a sannyasi yoga. Such a person will not be interested in material things. He will be spiritual and he can become a sannyasi."

• It helps when Ketu, the karaka of sannyasa and moksha, aspects those planets. In the example he does so from the 8th.

5th Lord + 9th Lord

• Their conjunction is a Maha Raj Yoga.
• In the 9th house it makes the period important for following dharma.

Palana Devata (Sustenance Deity)

"Just like the 12th from Atmakaraka is Ishta Devata and 9th from Atmakaraka is Dharma Devata, similarly the 6th from Amatyakaraka is Palana Devata."

• The Amatyakaraka is your career, your karma. The planet with influence over the 6th from it, in navamsa, gives livelihood.
• Someone out of a job, or wanting a good livelihood, can pray to the Palana Devata.
• The Palana Devata does not give moksha. He makes sure you have enough to eat and enough to live.

In the student chart:

• AmK = Venus. No replacement.
• 6th from Venus in navamsa is Leo: Mars and Mercury are there.
• The same Mars–Mercury pair gave the Ishta Devata and the Dharma Devata. All three come to Narasimha.

"If you pray to Narasimha, it will be very auspicious. It will give you all-round success."

Curses from Past Life

When someone is laid off, check one more thing: has a curse from the past life been activated recently? If so the trouble can last longer than the other charts suggest.

The Curse Yogas

Affliction means occupation or graha drishti by malefics — Saturn, Rahu, Ketu, Mars. Rasi drishti is not counted here.

• The karaka should be afflicted by two malefics for the yoga to be strong.
• The afflicting planet shows the feeling behind it: Mars = anger, Saturn = sorrow, Rahu or Ketu = shock, feeling cheated.
• The curse works when the Moola Dasa of the planet concerned is running.

"Curse doesn't have to be something that is delivered verbally. If you are mean to your wife and she doesn't say a word and goes through suffering, that becomes a curse in the next life. Curse is basically karma. You reap what you sow."

Checked on the Student Chart (Rasi)

• Wife: Saturn aspects Venus. But no malefic aspects the 7th house. No curse.
• Mother: Mars aspects the 4th house; 4th lord Jupiter is with Saturn. But no malefic aspects Moon. No curse.
• Father: Sun, the 9th house and the 9th lord are all with Rahu. A Pitri shapa yoga, but weak: only one malefic. Rahu alone means the father felt let down, deceived — not sad, not angry.
• It could only have worked in Rahu's Moola Dasa, 1967 to 1979, in his boyhood, as some bad relation with the father. If nothing happened then, the yoga was too weak to fructify.
• Brahmana shapa: Jupiter is with Saturn but no second malefic aspects him. None.
• Saturn's Moola Dasa is running (1998–2016) and Saturn shows no curse. Nothing from past karma is holding him back.

The Shashtyamsa of the Moola Dasa Lord

Moola means root. The Moola Dasa shows the root cause of what is happening — karma from the past life that has to be experienced now. The Shashtyamsa (D60) of its lord shows what karma that planet carries.

• Saturn is in Chandrarekha amsha — a benefic shashtyamsa. But Chandrarekha is a line of the Moon, not Purnachandra, the full Moon. It shows incompleteness and the aspiration to become fuller.
• So 1998–2016 is a period of strong desire and work toward it, without obstacles. Whether the aspiration concerns money, career or spirituality is seen from the other charts.
• Mars is in Kulaghna amsha — destruction of the family, of the lineage. In Mars's Moola Dasa there will be bad events in the family.

When There Is a Curse

• PVNR knew a man with a Sarpa shapa yoga. When the Moola Dasa of that planet came he was out of a job for two and a half years.
• In such a case advise remedies for that particular shapa. Here none is needed.

The Ruler of the Year and Tithi Ashtottari Dasha

• The Tithi Pravesha chart is found for a given year and read like a natal chart. It applies to that year only.
• Its Hora lord is the ruler of the year, like the king of the year. See the houses he owns and occupies for the main events.
• The ruler's own dasha is an important one. What the year promises, if no other planet has given it, he can give.
• Tithi Ashtottari dasha is the dasha for this chart. Use it to see what happens when within the year.

"Whoever is Hora lord, he becomes the ruler of the year, and that planet is like the king of that year. He takes control over your life."
