Tithi Pravesha — The Annual Lunar Chart
Tithi Pravesha (TP): the annual chart cast when the Sun and Moon return to the same Tithi as birth — a secret tradition from Pandit Sanjay Rath's lineage. PVNR's 1987 TP (IIT state-first rank) and 1994 TP (going abroad). Sahamas — the sensitive zodiac points of the TP. Student marriage timing via Navamsa + TP.
"This technique is NOT found in any classical literature available today. It comes from our tradition — from Pandit Sanjay Rath, who learned it from his grandfather, who learned it from his guru. It was kept as a secret, taught only to trusted students."
— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao
Example Chart
Atmakaraka — Brief Introduction
Atmakaraka (AK) = the planet that has the highest degree (longitude) among all planets in the chart (ignoring Rahu and Ketu).
- "Atma" = soul; "Karaka" = significator
- The Atmakaraka = significator of the soul = shows the true nature of the soul within you
- Important for understanding one's spiritual purpose and deepest nature
- Example: PVNR's daughter has Venus as Atmakaraka → Venus governs her soul's theme → Venusian qualities (creativity, passion, beauty) dominate despite other chart factors
Introduction to Tithi Pravesha (TP) — Lunar Annual Chart
What Is Tithi Pravesha?
Background: Western astrology uses Solar Return — the chart cast when the Sun returns to its exact birth longitude (within 1-2 days of Western calendar birthday).
Vedic alternative: Tithi Pravesha (TP) — the chart cast when the tithi of birth returns each year.
What is a tithi? A lunar day. The lunar month has 30 tithis (15 in the bright half = Shukla, 15 in the dark half = Krishna). Birthday in India is traditionally celebrated on the tithi (not the solar date). Great personalities' birthdays are tithi-based:
- Rama → Chaitra Shukla Navami
- Krishna → Bhadrapada Krishna Ashtami
- Buddha → Vaishakha Purnima
- Guru Nanak → Kartika Purnima
How to find the TP moment:
- Note the exact tithi of birth and the exact percentage of that tithi elapsed at birth
- When that same tithi returns in the current year, and exactly the same percentage is elapsed → cast the chart at that exact moment
- This is the Tithi Pravesha chart for that year
This chart governs the next 12 months from that moment.
Classical Basis (Or Lack Thereof)
— PVNR"This technique is NOT found in any classical literature — not in Parasara's works, not in Jaimini's works that are available today. However, it comes from our tradition — from Pandit Sanjay Rath, who learned it from his grandfather, who learned it from his guru. It was kept as a secret, taught only to trusted students. Pandit Sanjay Rath and I decided to reveal it to the whole world — we hope people will experiment, do research, and refine this knowledge."
PVNR's testimonial: "90% of the correct predictions I made to people in the last 5 years came from this technique rather than Vimshottari Dasha."
Key Principles of TP Chart
-
Chart location = BIRTH location, not current residence
- Even if the native is now living in USA, cast the TP chart for the birth longitude/latitude
-
Dasha system = Tithi Ashtottari Dasha (a special dasha variation based on tithis)
- Do NOT use Vimshottari Dasha for TP chart
- Access in software: Dashas tab → Other Dashas → Tithi Ashtottari Dasha
-
Period = exactly one year (from TP moment to next TP moment)
-
All basic principles apply (same as natal chart): Lagna, houses, Arudhas, divisional charts, Argala — everything applies the same way
-
Cross-checking TP + Natal for rectification: The windows in natal chart and TP chart are different. If you know an event happened and you can identify what the TP chart should show, you can find the intersection of both windows and narrow down the birth time further.
Hora Lord — The Ruler of the Year
At the exact moment the TP year commences, a particular planetary hour (Hora) is running.
How Hora works:
- At sunrise on a given day, the planetary hour of that weekday's lord starts (e.g., Thursday sunrise → Jupiter Hora starts)
- Each Hora lasts approximately 1 hour
- The sequence cycles through planets in a fixed order
Two types of Hora in the software:
| Type | Based On | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Hora Lord (normal) | Sunrise on the day of TP | Use this one for "ruler of the year" |
| Maha Kala Hora | Fixed time (6 AM LMT regardless of sunrise) | Different purpose — do NOT use for ruler of year |
The Hora Lord = King of the Year:
- Whatever sign this planet owns in the TP chart = the main theme/area of life for that year
- Where the Hora Lord is placed = what matters most during the year
- The "king" controls which results he "grants" to other planets during that year
Panchanga — The Planetary Cabinet of the Year
The Hora Lord is the king. He has a cabinet of 4 more ministers, each responsible for a different area of life. Together they form the Panchanga (5 limbs of time):
| Limb | Sanskrit | Tattva (Element) | What It Controls |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tithi | Lunar day | Jala (Water) | Prosperity, feeling good, happiness, relationships; lord = welfare minister |
| Yoga | Sun+Moon longitude combination | Akasha (Ether) | Binding of people together, meetings, important persons coming into life; lord = minister for relationships |
| Vara | Weekday | Agni (Fire) | Physical vitality, health; lord = health minister |
| Nakshatra | Moon's constellation | Vayu (Air) | Strength, inner fortitude; lord = strength minister |
| Karana | Half lunar day | Prithvi (Earth) | Achievement, tangible accomplishments; lord = achievement minister |
— PVNR"For binding 2 people together — for marriage — look at the Yoga Lord. 'Yoga' literally means 'togetherness, being together.' If the Yoga Lord is well placed in the TP chart, an important person may come into your life that year. Place from Hora Lord is especially important — if Yoga Lord is in trine or quadrant from Hora Lord, the king approves the relationship."
How to use the cabinet:
- Check where each limb's lord is placed in the TP chart (from Lagna, from Hora Lagna)
- Their placement relative to the Hora Lord determines whether the king supports that area
- If they are in trine/quadrant from Hora Lord → good; if in dusthana → bad
Example 1: PVNR's 1987 TP Chart (State First + IIT Selection)
Context: May 28, 1987 — PVNR stood state first in higher secondary examination with record total. June 1, 1987 — IIT Madras entrance exam results came; selected.
Annual TP Chart for 1987:
- Lagna: Sagittarius (Dhanus)
- Hora Lord: Jupiter
D-24 (Siddhamsa — chart of learning) of TP:
Jupiter in TP D-24:
- Owns 1H (Sagittarius) and 4H (Pisces) for Sagittarius Lagna
- Placed in 4H (Pisces) = well placed (4H in D-24 = education/foundational learning)
- 1H + 4H = both quadrants → Jupiter is Vishnu Sthana lord
Raj Yoga in TP D-24:
- Sun = 9L (9H from Sagittarius = Leo; lord = Sun) = Trine lord (Lakshmi Sthana)
- Jupiter (4L = Quadrant lord) + Sun (9L = Trine lord) together = Raj Yoga!
- Separation = only half a degree (Jupiter@12°20', Sun@12°54') → extremely powerful, tight Raj Yoga
- Friends (Sun and Jupiter are natural friends) → no conflict
Placement of Sun + Jupiter:
- In Arudha Lagna (AL) in this TP D-24 chart → image is boosted
- In A5 → tangible manifestation of abilities (the state first rank, the IIT selection rank — these are A5 = tangible recognition)
- Because they are in Arudha Lagna, the result is not just inner learning but a visible image-boosting event relating to education
Tithi Ashtottari Dasha:
- Sun antardasha started: May 27, 1987
- Examination results announced: May 28, 1987 (literally the very next day!)
- IIT entrance results: June 1, 1987
— PVNR"Sun is 9H lord, with 4H lord Jupiter. So Sun definitely shows success — success and happiness. And because both are in Arudha Lagna and A5, it's not just learning — it's a perceived image booster. People who didn't know me in my town suddenly knew me. 'He is from our town, he stood state first with a record score.'"
Sun from Lagna in TP D-24: Sun in 3H (auspicious for malefic) → success. Owns 6H (overcoming obstacles) → beating competition.
Conclusion: The Raj Yoga formed by Hora Lord (Jupiter, ruler of year, 4L) + Sun (9L) in Arudha Lagna + A5 = perfectly explains the tangible achievement and image boost in education.
Sahamas — Sensitive Zodiac Points
Sahamas (also called Sahms/Sahams):
- Specific sensitive points in the zodiac for particular life events
- Similar to Arabic "Part of Fortune" (Arabic astrology also has some of these)
- Many sahamas given by Nilakanta (classical author)
- Sanskrit: "Sahamam" (with vipakti pratyayam). When the final -am is dropped = "Sahama". Arabic influence dropped final vowel further → "Saham." PVNR calls them "Sahamas."
- Found in software under sensitive points
Key Travel Sahamas:
| Sahama | Meaning | When to Use |
|---|---|---|
| Paradesha Sahama | Para=others, Desha=country → "Other country" = foreign land | Going to or settling in a foreign country |
| Jalapatana Sahama | Jala=water, Patana=crossing/falling → "Crossing over water" | Crossing ocean; going to different continent; crossing a lot of water |
Rule: When a planet (especially Rahu, 9L, 12L) is extremely close to a Sahama point, that event is certain for that year.
Example 2: PVNR's 1994 TP Chart (Going Abroad — November 10, 1994)
Context: PVNR left India for the first time on November 9/10, 1994. He landed in a foreign country.
Annual TP Chart for 1994:
- Saturn Dasha in this TP: November 5 – December 7, 1994
- Antardasha: Saturn-Rahu (started November 9th)
Analysis:
| Factor | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Saturn owns 11H + 12H in TP chart | 12H lord in 12H = Vimala Yoga (own sign) → displacement from motherland (positive event) |
| Rahu as second 12H co-lord in 9H | 12H lord in 9H = going abroad. Rahu = karaka for foreign cultures. Watery sign (Cancer/Scorpio/Pisces) = ocean crossing. 9H = prosperity → going to more prosperous country |
| Jalapatana Sahama | Rahu in TP chart is at 2°07' in Scorpio. Jalapatana Sahama = 2°18' in Scorpio → only 11 arc minutes apart! Extremely close |
— PVNR"Without any doubt, if you see this, without any doubt you can say this person will go abroad during this year. Rahu is not only the 12th lord, not only the karaka for going abroad, not only in the 9th house, not only in a watery sign, but he is within 11 arc minutes from the Jalapatana Sahama."
Tithi Ashtottari Dasha: Saturn-Rahu antardasha started Nov 9. PVNR departed Nov 9 night; landed abroad Nov 10 afternoon. Exact match.
3-way check for Saturn giving the result:
- Saturn in Venus sign (Taurus) → Venus = dispositor; Venus and Saturn are friends → "manager approves"
- Karaka for going abroad = Rahu → Rahu and Saturn are close friends → "project manager cooperates"
- Saturn has Argala on 12H → decisive intervention on the house of displacement
— PVNR"Saturn-Rahu antardasha: both have strong links to going abroad. Rahu is the project manager (12th lord karaka for foreign). Saturn is in Argala on 12th house. Venus (dispositor) cooperates. So Saturn gives the result in Rahu antardasha."
Returning from abroad: If an 8H lord aspects the 12H or 9H, it "breaks" the residence in the foreign country, signaling return.
Example 3: Student's Marriage — Navamsa + TP (2003-04)
Birth Data: March 18, 1981, 5:25 PM (approximately), Bangalore (77E35, 12N59)
Rectification process:
- Original Navamsa Lagna = Virgo (if birth time 5:25 PM)
- Check: If Mars antardasha (which gave marriage) owns 2H + 7H → Mars must own these for Navamsa Lagna
- For Virgo Lagna: Mars owns 3H (Scorpio) + 8H (Aries) → does NOT support marriage
- For Libra Lagna (if time is 5:29:30 PM): Mars owns 2H (Scorpio) + 7H (Aries) → YES! Mars as 2L+7L = perfect marriage indicator
- Conclusion: Navamsa Lagna = Libra. Birth time ≈ 5:29:30 PM (not 5:25).
Navamsa with Libra Lagna:
Sun Mahadasha (6 years): Sun in 12H (own sign Leo) = Vimala Yoga (12L in 12H). Sun has Argala on Venus (marriage karaka) from 3H (Kama Trikona, 11H Argala). Sun can give marriage.
Mars Antardasha: Mars as 2L + 7L (marriage houses) → definite marriage indicator. Mars in 6H has Rasi Drishti + Graha Drishti on 7H. However, Mars in 6H = 12H from 7H (loss of meeting) → caused the delay. Marriage was proposed in October (Mars period) but delayed.
Jupiter: 6L (obstacle) in 7H = bad for marriage; brings quarrels. Will give quarrels (not marriage) — especially regarding children in next dasha.
Final marriage-giver: Mars period started the marriage process; difficulties caused delay. Jupiter antardasha finally gave marriage.
Jupiter's qualifications for giving marriage:
- Lagna lord (new beginning)
- In 9H (dharmic procedure)
- Has Rasi Drishti on Upada Lagna
- Rahu (Yoga Lord in TP) is in Navamsa Lagna (fresh start)
- Marriage happened in Jupiter-Rahu antardasha (February 1st)
Key rules used:
- 2H from 7H = not just money but "resources for dharma" (family infrastructure); Mars as 2L = resources for dharmic life
- Upada Lagna = the actual marriage ceremony (not just 7H which shows the person)
- 9H associations → dharmic procedures, religious ritual of marriage
- Lagna lord in TP Navamsa → a new beginning in dharmic life
TP Chart for 2003-04 (Marriage Year)
TP Data: March 16, 2003, 9:35:28 PM, birth location
| Element | Planet | Analysis |
|---|---|---|
| Hora Lord (Ruler of Year) | Venus | Venus = karaka for marriage; Venus ruling the year is perfect for a marriage year |
| Yoga Lord | Rahu | Rahu in trine from Venus (in both Rashi and Navamsa) → Yoga Lord cooperates with Hora Lord |
| Rahu in Navamsa | In Lagna | "Fresh start" placement; new person entering life |
| Jupiter (Lagna lord) | In 9H | Dharmic event (marriage); Lagna lord in Navamsa 9H = dharmic new beginning |
| Mars in TP Navamsa | In 6H | Desire to give (Graha Drishti on 9H), but placed in 6H = quarrels; gives the starting point but delays |
Summary: Venus as Hora Lord (marriage karaka as king of year), Rahu in trine from Venus as Yoga Lord (binding people together), Jupiter giving dharmic new beginning from 9H, Rahu in Lagna signaling fresh start → all confirm this is a marriage year.
Example 4: Student's Astrology Learning — D-24 of 2004 TP
Same student, 2004-05 TP chart: "When did she start learning astrology?"
D-24 (Siddhamsa) of TP 2004:
Key placements:
- Hora Lord = Moon (king of the year for this period)
- Yoga Lord = Mercury
- Venus = 8L (house of occult knowledge: 8H) in 8H own sign → occult/astrological knowledge highlighted
- Ketu in Lagna of D-24 (or 2H) → Ketu = important for astrology learning (2H = astrology prediction house; Ketu is 2L coming to Lagna = strong)
- Houses important for astrology: 8H (occult intuition, hidden knowledge), 2H (predictions, divination)
- Venus as 8L in 8H = Sarala Yoga → also shows straightforward approach to occult
From Hora Lagna check: Venus in quadrant from Moon (Hora Lord) → king approves the astrology learning, but with effort (quadrant = effort, not blessings).
Venus dasha in TP: May 13 to July 22, 2004 → student started attending astrology classes around June 2004. ✓
— PVNR"Until May 13th, she did not really know much astrology. Only Kiran knew and she suddenly got interested and started learning astrology. Soon she will become good."
Jupiter and Ketu = primary planets for astrology:
- Ketu shows occult, mystical, knowledge beyond the ordinary
- Jupiter shows traditional knowledge from a lineage
Key Rules Summary — Lesson 13
| Rule | Details |
|---|---|
| D-7 counting | Odd D-7 Lagna → forward; Even → backward. 5th = first child. 3rd from there = second child. |
| Ketu stops children | Rahu/Ketu in counting path = Manduka Gati halted. Strong planet in next sign can overcome. |
| Child's Lagna | Lord of the child-sign → go there → that is child's Lagna in your chart |
| Male/female | 3 principles: sign (odd=male, even=female, 4 exceptions); planets (Su/Ma/Ju/Ra=male, Mo/Ve/Ke=female, Sa/Me=neutral); dignity (exalted=male, debilitated=female) |
| Overall luck with children | Male chart: 5H lord; Female chart: 9H lord — check strength |
| Harsha Yoga | 6L in 6H = cheerful, happy, peaceful |
| Sarala Yoga | 8L in 8H = straightforward, honest |
| Vimala Yoga | 12L in 12H = pure, contented, gives happily |
| D-3 caveat | Drekana has possible missing links; D-7 is more reliable |
| Tithi Pravesha | Lunar annual chart cast when birth tithi returns at exact same percentage. Governs next 12 months. |
| Hora Lord | Planet whose hour is running at TP start (sunrise-based Hora). = King of the Year. |
| Tithi Ashtottari Dasha | Use within TP chart, not Vimshottari |
| Birth location for TP | Always use birth longitude/latitude, not current residence |
